- For decades, Black land-grant colleges and universities have received less funding than predominantly White schools, leaving faculty and students to fill in the gaps. Tennessee State University is one of many schools fighting to regain what is owed and resolve the deficit that's holding them back.

I’m an A&M alum as well. It was saddening to see how many dorms are offline on campus. Housing is one of the most important aspects of undergraduate life.
Our students deserve better.

Talk to the blacks in California who were entertained with the possibility of reparations by their Governor only to later be denied, and then to find out that illegal aliens are being offered free taxpayer sponsored down-payments on the purchase of a home. You can't make this stuff up.
No blacks are oppressing themselves but not supporting these institutions. Why aren’t more black students going to these colleges so that their tuition money will go to the black colleges? Why are black celebrities not donating to them in droves?
Black folks should hire the correct personnel to stay up to date on this information, donate, and attend every home visitation.

The amount of ignorance is the real problem. HISTORICALLY BLACK college means that up until 1965 that was the only opportunity that black people had for education, today ANYONE can attend an HBCU. HBCUs have non black and international students just like any other college. Just because there retained their history ( same as Dartmouth, Auburn and Radcliff) doesn't mean they deny admissions to others. Learn to be better people and educate yourselves
I’m graduated from a HBCU Lincoln University (Pa.) and I believe if the students and the faculty keep on applying pressure on this issue then they will eventually get what’s owed to them.

Slavery and Jim Crow laws were a product of the Democrat party. And no, the parties never since "flipped." Blacks have overwhelmingly voted Democrat for decades, and back in the 60s LBJ said that he would make sure that it continued "for the next 200 years."

Every Southern state that has a land grant HBCU.

It went to predominantly white schools. Which is why UTK got 58 million i stead of just 16 million
HBCU's have been having financial issues for ages. As a Wiley College graduate, we had issues with AC not working and not having enough food. There wasn't enough money going into my college in the early 2000's. 😢

mismanagement have u ever been to a HBCU their graduation rates is much higher for minorities than PWIs 70% of our professionals came from HBCUs

This happens in every state which has HBCU's! This is happening in Georgia right now with Georgia State University, which started as a professional school and now is buying the most expensive property in the state in downtown Atlanta. But Savannah State, Fort Valley, and Albany State all struggle because they are underfunded. Also remember that the State of Tennessee fired the board of TSU and appointed puppets so that they could control the funds that had been paid. This is the importance of voting in local and state elections to ensure that we have representation that will fund HBCU's equally. Vote!

I grew up and lived in Florida, home of FAMU. I lived less than one mile from FAMU. I know a lot FAMU graduates and honestly asked many do they give back monetarily. The looks I saw on their faces when I asked that question - True source of the underfunded problem. Many don't give back.
I'm glad they highlighted this. I'm a Bowie State University (BSU) graduate.
13B is the combined wages of a few black athletes, they get big money while Universities don’t, but still, 13B is nothing to the government. Is the government afraid that the people in charge of distributing those funds are gonna go wild like a new money person or lottery winner? How can they make sure that money gets distributed properly? Students are at the losing end. Sad.

I can't understand how people got rid of affirmative action saying it was "unfair" but kept ignoring that we are not a country with equal access to quality educational opportunities. Then FAFSA wasn't able to disperse funds last year, which prevented many students from college (the same time aff action is gone). It's obvious that our country is far from merit based and equal opportunities.
