Mine is doing the same thing……I’ll let you know how it turns out…….fyi I used two vice grips two grab the battery terminals……not as much as a hassle……..thanks
Hi thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! One thing I forgot to mention is to check your blade spindles while you're in there, I ended up doing both of mine 4 months later.
Very informative video with excellent editing. Enjoyed all the diagrams and pictures. Would make it super easy for someone to do this on their own. Keep these videos coming!
Thanks for the kind words Brian and will do! This is definitely a good way to get a free mower and fix it for dirt cheap too, cause the hydro transmissions last forever!
HELLO i have an ariens 42 gear riding mower can u PLEASE take a pic how the brake assembly goes i took mine apart to put in new pucks and i have an extra half inch spring left over..need pics thanks GREAT VIDEOS ty
Hi thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! Unfortunately, I sold this mower when I moved in August. In the description you'll find a link to an online owners manual I used for diagrams though! I also used the model # and jackssmallengines.com to find missing parts off my mower using their diagrams too!
Thanks for the comment Phillip and please take a moment to subscribe! Not a bad idea to upgrade to something metal if the cost isn't too much! This mower is from 2010 and mine were all original though. I've been under there a couple times since this video and they don't have any abnormal wear luckily! Hopefully they'll last as long as the originals.
I have a YTH18542 lawnmower wont go in reverse or forward. Belt is in place from what I have seen, when it starts rolling down the hill the brakes don't work, and it will move sometimes with the blade engaged. It has me stumped, possible my transmission is going out?
Hi Andrew thanks for the question, please subscribe if you aren't already! I am not familiar with your mower but I wouldn't be surprised if your belt is still in place and you have no movement from the transmission. You can jack up the rear trans-axle and put it in gear and feel the resistance to give yourself an idea. Mine had the exact same issue, as the brake/clutch pulley's is where the failure was. This removes and adds tension based on pedal position, but if your pulley is destroyed you are too far out of tolerance to get power in the belt. It'll look fine until you remove the blade deck and get under there.
I have Husqvarna ST 138 2015 model. when I push the forward pedal, the mower moves in reverse, the reverse when I push down is okay, but the forward goes in reverse too..? Its got me beat..
Hi Stella! Thanks for the comment unfortunately I'm unfamiliar with your type of transmission as my mower uses a totally different system. I would try using your model number to find the owners manual online it has excellent diagrams for trouble shooting!
*QUICK UPDATE 6/2/2023* I have updated the description with OEM Ariens pulleys and OEM Ariens drive belt for the drive system! The one I replaced in the video is the "Flat Idler" and the off brand I used has the wrong offset. I have gone back and bought the OEM Ariens stuff and I recommend you do it all at once! The flat idler is one of the three you will need, the other two are the V-groove idler, which are the same part so get two! Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! Mine had all of these issues because a small plastic part broke, I show diagrams and how to remove this part in the video. You can also find parts in the description I used.
Hi Wilbert! I know my model won't start if clutch isn't depressed, if seat switch isn't depressed and also it won't start if blades are switched on and transmission in reverse.
Save that money man, it really isnt all that bad once you get it apart and if you need to use the diagrams, they're in the description too! Please take a moment to subscribe if you haven't already, thanks for the support!

Junk plastic pulleys, can replace with metal ones from Stens or pro parts direct 😊
