ARIENS AYP 936053 MOWER WONT DRIVE FORWARD OR REVERSE DIY FIX, CHEAP! (Hydro Trans New Belt)
I remember their Paramount back in the 80's being pretty dope.
Like the way you mix old with new parts - a nice resto with some mods on a budget, cool for school 🎉
Hi Scott thanks for the kind words and please take a moment to subscribe if you haven't already! I've always figured if it works when it's 30 years old it'll work long enough for me haha. Great way to slowly save on parts that add up quick too!
These mid-late 80's schwinns have cool paintjobs and are underrated for sure. Awesome to see the metallic/flake in the paint after your cleaning. Looks like the retromod is going to be fast and efficient. My 23mm ultrasports are oversized too so it seems that's just a ultrasport tire thing.I haven't picked up any bikes recently since I got so many deals earlier in the year, and back to jonesing for a fun project. My technique for rounded allen bolts is to find the closest torx size and hammer it in.
Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! I thought the same on the paint, came out awesome! You defintely hit the nail on the head with the ultrasports, they are BIG TIRES lol! The lady I sold it to did the exact same race and went 45 MINUTES faster so it was much faster for sure! On the stripped allen/crank bolt cover, good tip! I tried EVERYTHING but I didn't try a torqx mainly bc I don't have one on a screwdriver type. I hammered in a flathead, gripped that with pliers and used the sledge to turn it while pressing in. I'll have to grab some torqx screwdrivers soon though!
The Bicycling Mag article on this bike is not correct. The Tenax tubing is not rebadged SL / SP. In an article on the 1985 Tempo which is basically the same frame - a Schwinn exec stated Tenax was similar to SP, same gauge and weight. Others have claimed Columbus has said it is Cromor. Based on weighing my Tempo frame only (about 2250g for a 23") it could be either one but the frame is too heavy to be SL. An SL frame would be down closer to 2000g ish.
I'm using an actual Schwinn catalog for reference (you can see it in the video a couple times) and have never seen a bicycling mag article. This is also a 1988 so I don't think you are correct here.
I have heard similar. I do know that a 27.0 seatpost is either cromor/matrix or sp. Where as SL/SLX is 27.2, which makes sense as a thinner, lighter tubing with a similar OD.
You make a good point here Impaled, this frame uses a 26.6mm as well.
EDITORIAL UPDATE: I was recently contacted by the buyer after filming this and she beat her gravel bike time from last year by 45 MINUTES & She loved the ride! GOAL ACCOMPLISHED!

Merci !
Many thanks JG that was very kind of you, I appreciate that!!🙏
Why you d'ont put any silicone to the gasket?
Hi JG, thanks for the question and please take a moment to subscribe. Are you asking about the valvecover gasket?
@@D2WrenchWorksDIY no, any gasket! EGR, water outlet, inlet manifold, exaust manifold and head gasket. (PS. I was send @$ Merci)
Yes thank you that was very kind! These newer style gaskets don't need any silicone on them and adding any will likely make it leak. We have been driving the heck out of our forenza for over 5k miles with no issue.
@@D2WrenchWorksDIY Thanks, but how to make to gasket don't move when I put in? (I send MERCI 2$ More!)
Many thanks again! To hold the gaskets in place when needed like thermostat housing for example, I use vasoline as it's sticky and cheap plus won't hurt anything in the engine. Dielectric grease would work great too 👍
Thanks for the rundown, I wish someone did this sooner. I bought a blemished 2018 model about 5 years ago, and it doesn't have the stem length issue. Though it had mtb disc brake calipers on it for some reason, and those have been a pain. I finally ordered some TRP Spyres, which should be a lot better. The rear axle broke, though I've heard that's from an inherent design flaw in freewheel designs. The stock tires kept going flat and the front shift cable fell off, so i was running it in 1x7 for a while because I didn't know shit about bikes back then 😂
Hi N8 Thanks for the comment, and please take a moment to subscribe! Yeah, I honestly bought this bike because it was ALWAYS top rated on amazon, but I've literally never seen one used or even one being ridden. I'm sorry to hear about the MTB calipers, but I can't say I'm surprised and stuff like this is just inexcusable, especially cheaping out on safety items like brakes. The wheels are definitely something with a short shelf life and are better just upgrading completely, 100%. Stuff like the bartape, saddle, and tires are absolutely something you should trash from the get-go. It's an added cost, which is always unwelcome, but constant flats are a huge pain, and being uncomfortable sucks. Now, with all that said, once I was done with the bike, I rode it to sell to the new owner and it honestly felt great. I mean, it took me like 6 months in searching and chasing after customer service for headset stuff, but it was nice when I was done, lol. Just alot of hidden costs because they cut corners and aren't a real bike company nor any different than a Walmart bike IMO.
My front derailleur broke and you show a substitute but I cant understand what it was. You talked about an old video you made about it. 7:41 Any advice on swapping out the giant OCR3 bike front derailleur
Hi Chuck! Sorry for the delay; we were forced to move recently due to house issues and I've been crazy busy! Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! Is your bike also a triple crank with Shimano 8spd shifters? Im actually going to do a video on this I've decided! I've been getting the question alot and I just bought a bike that has this exact issue.
I have Husqvarna ST 138 2015 model. when I push the forward pedal, the mower moves in reverse, the reverse when I push down is okay, but the forward goes in reverse too..? Its got me beat..
Hi Stella! Thanks for the comment unfortunately I'm unfamiliar with your type of transmission as my mower uses a totally different system. I would try using your model number to find the owners manual online it has excellent diagrams for trouble shooting!
I have the same bike but can’t seem to fit a 27.2 seat-post in it. What seat-post size did you use ?
Hi thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! I have several Cannondales here; CAAD3, CAAD4, CAAD5 and they all take a 27.2mm seatpost.
Great demonstration! Thank you for your help!
Hi TJ, thanks for comment and please take a moment to subscribe!
Thank you!
Happy to help! Please take a moment to subscribe if you havent already!
Nice in depth vid🤙🏼
Thanks for kind words! Please take a moment to subscribe if you havent already! I actually have an almost identical Giant build im gonna do soon, so stay tuned!
A better video than this you won’t find. Excellent video.
Hi Carlos! Many thanks for the kind words, I appreciate that! Please take a moment to like and subscribe too!
Thanks for the video, excellent stuff. I'm gonna take a guess that you don't have a pro $80K camera !! My Sora R3000 right shifter (9 speed) seems to index/click shift when I take if off the drop handlebar - I see the cable indexing around it's "housing" but I lose any shifting when I screw the unit onto the handlebars!! The levers just move back and forwards (against the internal spring) but without any shifting or indexing. The cable isn't actuated at all once on the handlebars. Confusing. Do you think it's the same thing and I need to get rid of internal gunge and re-lubricate ? thanks
Hi Deepak! Thanks for kind words and the laugh, unfortunately despite 600k views I'm stuck using a busted cellphone. The small channels dont make much money, so I do the best I can haha. This is a good time to ask you to subscribe and like the video lol. I actually have a video on a very similar r2000 and I've had this issue before where, when bolted to handlebars, the shifter is engaged by the shifter grips and im wondering if that's your issue. Almost never do you see these new generation shifters having issues unless someone previously jammed a cable and forced the shifter which isn't a grease situation at all. Here's the video: ua-cam.com/video/reAHjMnMCQg/v-deo.html
This video is a life saver! i was having trouble doing the RD cable. Unable to find helful videos until i found this gem! 10x better than the official microShift video.
Hi Lawrence, please take a moment to subscribe if you havent already! Thanks for the kind words I appreciate that!
цена запредельная это фуфло .
Yes I agree the price change sucks, but this video is using price from upload date.
Hi there! Great bike, I just picked up that exact frame as a project. Do you know the headset and bottom bracket sizing? I will likely need to order replacements... thank you!!
And, any idea if those decals exist for purchase somewhere? The decals on my frame are super faded/scratched, and would like to update them if possible. I would even buy plain white decals and paint them pink if needed.
Is that a Suspension corrected rigid fork? Isn't this something you need to consider? I am considering do this on a Cdale MTB and the silk road fork is NOT raked like yours! What should I replace it with?
Hi Wilytuber and thanks for the question! Please take a moment to subscribe! All forks rigid or suspension have an angle to them, called the rake. On a OEM suspension bike, you are asking about adding a larger travel fork and yes there will be minor changes but you should stay close to oem travel to minimize it, somewhat. You may notice the steering is faster or slower depending on the way you went in suspension travel. Its extremely likely you wont though, at first a bigger fork may steer slower, or not be as twitchy but you will soon adjust. When it's minor differences like this, you dont see any negative performances. Now going from an 80mm fork to an 140mm travel fork is a substantial difference but on a hardtail where geometry isn't as affected you could get away with it. l always try to match the travel of the original fork to what I got or slightly bigger and its always worked well for me. Also I'd always recommend at least trying it, regardless, because a bike being able to be ridden is better than one that cant!
Outstanding video. Thank you for the time you gave and information you shared. I'm hoping you can help me. I have a 2007 Toyota Matrix, as I understand is the same as a Corolla, I paid a mechanic to change the clutch and flywheel. I lack time and tools to get the job done myself. From the day I picked up my car I have had an ongoing issue that I never had prior to the clutch and FW replacement. You maybe able to shed light on what might be the problem. When driving, regardless of speed or gear I am in, if I go over irregular road surface, e.g. train tracks, the RMP will drop out completely for an instant and then resume. This doesn't happen all the time though, Now the problem has gone from RPM dropping out and resuming correct RPM to stalling the car. When the car stalls it will start right up again and then drive no problem until the next time it happens, which could be at any moment or go for days without a problem. In trouble shooting this I have replaced the spark plugs, new fuel pump assembly, mass air flow sensor and cleaned the intake system. All work done by mechanic (different mechanic who changed out the clutch and FW) hoping that this will fix the problem. He also checked any fuse issues, loose wire harness, ground terminals, and love tapped almost the entire top surface of the engine to see if there's a loose connection somewhere. No luck. When the clutch and FW were replaced, is there a chance that a cable has been stretched or plug that isn't connecting properly in a less obvious place other than the top side of the engine be the cause of this worsening intermittent problem? Any suggestions/advise is welcome. Many thanks, Steve.
Hi Stephen, thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! We were recently displaced from our house because of flood damage and have been dealing with moving, so forgive the delay! I am curious if a wire was pinched or there could be a vacuum line. This is an extremely difficult issue to diagnose without putting my hands on it, but here's what I'd do, retrace your mechanics steps using this video: -1. Check your grounds and vacuum lines, including your pcv valve. All of these are clutch related and could be a vacuum leak or ground issue. -2. Are all connections fully pressed in from this video? Sometimes, unplugging and fully pressing in plugs gets them to fully snap in -3. Run the car for codes and proceed from there -4. I hate Facebook, but they have some EXPERT folks in Matrix & Pontiac Vibe groups, I'm in all the groups myself and reference them often for oddball stuff like this!
Very good camera 😊
Hi Phillip, please take a moment to subscribe and thanks for the kind words I appreciate that! I try to the best I can haha
Awesome build man! I have a 5200 OCLV as well. I'm curious what size tires are you running here? I was thinking of converting my 5200 to a gravel bike and was wondering what you think the biggest tires you can run on here? You think it could run a 28C or even a 30C?
Thanks man and please take a moment to subscribe! I have a few other 5200 builds on the channel and a similar LeMond! I absolutely love these frames and I wish I had one today though! I used to take mine on singletrack rides through state parks actually haha so you asked the right guy! You can DEFINITELY fit 28c tires but not 30c's, the ONE TIRE that I wouldn't buy is the 28c Continental Ultrasport's because they are HUGE compared to other 28c tires. Thickslick, Bontrager race and Panaracer Pasela are some of the brands I know 100% will work. My current Cannondale caad4 is super tight on 28c tolerances so I just went through this last year haha. If you are unsure I would definitely use amazon prime for easy returns in case the tire doesn't fit!
I love Cannondale!!
Hell yeah man me too haha! Take a moment to subscribe and then checkout my personal Cannondale, I love it too! ua-cam.com/video/E0vzeBeG1to/v-deo.html If you search "Cannondale" on my channel you will find 13 videos so far with at least THREE more to come! 👀
Thank you!
Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe if you haven't already!
Hello..just picked up a Nichiki like yours except mine has inline Tektro brake levers. How did you determine that your bike is a 2005 model?
Hi thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! I looked up owners manuals online and did some digging. On the levers, mine did as well but I usually remove them and toss em on ebay for $15.
I'm about to buy a CFR 3 for cheap, because owner says shifter is stuck. Guess what I'm going to try! Thanks!
Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! CFR you say!? Well I got some videos for you bud! They're awesome bikes! Part 1: ua-cam.com/video/hPiKQTVcLs4/v-deo.html Part 2: ua-cam.com/video/ZEGmOpG1qXg/v-deo.html You'll want to slide out the inner dustcaps on the RSX shifters, it's better to remove these and soak them in hot water for while! The 7 speed shifters can be the absolute worse so use hot water and a degreaser and be patient.
My neibour put an almost identical one out for council pickup last month. I grabbed it and it needed new tyres, some cables replaced, rear wheel needs a couple of spokes tightened and a small wobble taken out but other than that will be ok.
Hi Paul congrats on the new bike and please take a moment to subscribe! Im a little jealous haha I only got a cheapie GT rigid mtb on the curb once, your bike is way cooler! I actually have ANOTHER one of these OCR's but a Sora group and it's been left abandoned, so look out for that video soon!
Considering the headshok fork is angled, will this conversion shorten the wheelbase and would it negatively affect the performance?
Hi thanks for question and please take a moment to subscribe! All forks rigid or suspension have an angle to them, called the rake. On a full suspension bike adding a larger travel fork is a common upgrade and there will be minor changes but you should stay close to oem travel to minimize it. You may notice the steering is faster or slower depending on the way you went in rake, its likely you wont though if its not a big difference. When it's minor differences like this small travel fork I added to this headshok frame, you dont see any negative performances. I rode this bike to the person I sold it to and the bike rode excellent. Now going from an 80mm fork to an 120mm travel fork is a substantial difference but on a hard tail where geometry isn't as affected you could get away with it. I always try to match the rake of the original fork to what I got or get as close as possible and its always worked well for me. Also I'd always recommend at least trying it regardless because a bike being able to be ridden is better than one that cant!

Excellent video , you covered it all ,thanks for all the great info.
Thanks I appreciate the kind words! The longer I own this thing the more I love it, if cash wasnt tight I'd love to have two more of these! The workbench is awesome and the drawer space is great! Until they moved all production to trek in 2002 "I think" they were still made in Chehalis Washington by the same crew. My dad worked for Klein in the 90's.
Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! Yeah I think people didn't like the changes Trek made when they took over production, but to me it's all a bit silly. Both Klein versions are awesome and I loved building this one! Cool to hear about your dad too! 😎
6:35 You can remove the transaxle with the LH axle still in the diff and then use the C60 shift fork and a rubber mallet to pop the axle out once the transaxle is on the ground. Edit: You can also put a 1/2" 19mm socket wrench on the crank bolt with a cheater bar to hold the flywheel while installing. It won't come loose.
Thanks for the comment! I did this LH axle recently and it came out like butter second time bc I used what they call a "Demolition Screwdriver" and with a couple wacks of the mini sledge on the flats of the axle it came RIGHT OUT! I have heard of the clutch fork trick but didn't have a spare one around and theyre not cheap enough to hammer a good one lol
I had a gen 2 and it was actually a good starter bike for me, put a ton of miles on it. Had a bad crash and there were just scuffs. Only downside was the bottom tier components that I had to retune periodically. Picked it up $100 used, sold it three years later for $100
Hi Wtipton! Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! I am actually comparing this to several other aluminum bikes, all at the same time, if you check my other videos! But yeah, buying one used that's already been gone through is a whole different situation then what your average seller walks into when they see a cheap used one or even when buying a new one for that matter. There are some parts you are better off upgrading, some parts are just fine, the gen2 getting downgraded microshift for the same price sucks, and the initial build quality is flat out bad. So bad, before you ride your new bike, you need to go over the entire build. This is basically the same standard of quality a walmart bike has and it shouldn't be overlooked IMO. This bike was an excellent bike after all the work but it's an intense amount of work for someone who isn't a bike mechanic and people often don't head about the added-on cost until it's too late. Then there's also the customer service issues to service their proprietary headset (they are running out of) that only THEY have access to, topping it all of. There is also the consideration that the average lifetime price of this bike on camelcamecamel is $561 New. That is alot of cash for a starter bike. I budget bought everything on mine and still had almost $300 in purchase and parts. It's not great but it's not useless, it just is what it is. You can also find Trek 1000's all day long for $150 around me, or Cannondale R300's, Giant OCR's for $100.....bikes that often don't need any work and were setup perfect from day 1 with quality parts. I actually compare it to these in my videos for these reasons, often people don't realize how good 20 year old bikes still are!
@@D2WrenchWorksDIY I had to go through the thing, person who had it before me could not keep air in the tires. It helps to have rim tape all the way around. That and a wheel true, grease in the right places and a tuneup was all it ever needed. I checked my Strava and have put around 2100 miles on this bike. I'll disagree with you a little on the equivalency to a walmart bike, it's slightly better than that. Let's be honest, Any budget, entry-level bike is going to need new stuff and come with unacceptable components. Surprisingly, this did not need anything other than a little love. Shimano tourney is fine, just requires a little attention periodically. Most walmart bikes don't even come with that. People spend too much time geeking out on the tech when they should be out riding. Riding whatever they can get a good deal on used. 95% of people won't notice a discernable difference between entry-level bikes. I did eventually find a good deal on a high-end full carbon bike with top shelf components that was someone's garage queen. Make no mistake the difference is a universe away from anything Vilano offers but it was a decent horse to ride until that deal happened. I rode that thing for the price of a couple of new tubes. Tech specs are not everything. I'll also restate, there are no entry-level bikes that will not need a little tech attention. That's the backend price of going cheap.
Walmart actually has some decent bikes, just like Vilano. There is no real quality difference over the Vilano bikes. They also got this popular new gravel bike I've been thinking about reviewing and the Vilano is extremely close to walmart's decade-long successful GMC Denali. The comparison is because they all require alot of additional skilled labor and Vilano is literally doing the same as walmart, they have nothing to do with the product or the design in-house like Trek or Cannondale, etc. Its a big company flipping the cheapest bikes they can buy from generic sellers, just like walmart. You also gotta realize truing your own wheels is a skill majority of cyclists don't possess and its expensive to true a set. Just like checking all the important spots for grease that can ruin the frame (stuck seatpost, broken headset) plus these ALL need cable housings cut down and all the limit screws checked. Sending a rear derailleur into the wheel at speed bc of limit screws or unable to replace a frame specific headset makes it a paperweight. You're essentially rebuilding the bike at that point and a bike shop will want $200 to make it legit. If you really wanted to compare it, look at bikesdirect.com. They used to get all the same flack 20 years ago on bike forums, but have since made massive quality improvements and still produce great bikes. A friend bought a full suspension Mid range MTB from there 10 years ago and all I had to do was bleed the hydraulic disc brakes and grease the seatpost. Wheels were dead true, derailleurs set proper, rim tape sealed no issue and shifters were tensioned perfectly. I'd imagine comparing their bikes today to Vilano would be even better.
Anyone know where to replace cable guides (little white plastic things?) or what other models compatible with these shifters?
Hi thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! Are you talking about the white pieces the brake cable slides into and attaches to the inside of shifter?
@@D2WrenchWorksDIY yep found them they were still inside the brifters.. found some on eBay tho if anyones looking
Good to hear! I have lost the parts and had to buy them new myself haha, been there!
Hoping to do this on my 90's XS800 commuter as the headshok no longer locks out. Do you know if something like the Cannondale KP058 conversion kit would work or is that meant for more modern options? Thanks for the great video!
Hi ChickenCoop thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! You can find the headset adapter cups I used in the description, if you liked the headshok working with the lock you should DEFINITELY reach out to Mendon Cycles the guy there is a headshok expert and it's pretty budget friendly to fix the lock! www.mendoncyclesmith.com/
@@D2WrenchWorksDIY Subscribed and ordered! I noticed you don't have a link for the fork race. Was that included with the headset cup or did you have to purchase that separately? Thank you for the lead!
Awesome! When you buy new headsets they come with a new race in the box! New top cap and bolt too!
Is it not necessary to use a straight edge to test for flatness?
Hi Lexi thanks for the question & please take a moment to subscribe, I appreciate the support! I actually have a straight edge I bought for this about 10 years ago but I lost my feeler gauges moving recently. Since I had the head ready to go, I asked my machinist how far out the head was and he said it wasn't bad. When I mentioned checking the deck he said he wouldn't bother unless it was way more warped. It's much harder to warp an iron block and this car wasn't overheated very bad so it wasn't necessary. This car isn't some high end expensive job either (it's a 03 suzuki forenza lol), if you had something worth money you cared about it would be a good idea to do so.
@@D2WrenchWorksDIY okay will do. i'm watching various videos in preparation to do this for my 2001 nissan xterra with 335k miles. others use different techniques and not all of them use a sharpening stone. also, my understanding is the type of gasket will determine the sanding grit, i.e. copper, composite, mls, etc.
Your typical car uses a normal gasket like mine and if you it like I did it, you're being super careful about getting bad stuff in the engine while also prepping the surface completely. I'm sure there are other ways that can work, but this is the best way IMO.
My buddy had a blue 08 ocr3 collecting dust in his garage, was gonna sell it to me for $160 but ended up only taking $100 even after I insisted. It was practically brand new, I've put thousands of miles on it without spending a dime on it. Best $100 bucks I've ever spent. My front derailer spring has snapped like you said, only issue I've had but its flat where I live so I just have it on the largest chain ring an I'm fine. Also own a aluminum ss with carbon fork an upright geometry for comfort but I still always ride my ocr3 since I've got it, great comfortable bike for the price.
Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe, I appreciate the support! Heck yeah man, that is an AWESOME buy! I just found out this weekend apparently these will fit HUGE 700x32c tires, these frames are just awesome. You should seriously take a couple hours time to order and install a new claris front derailleur! They are AMAZING compared to these horrid Sora's that always break and setup soooo easy! All you need to do is find your quick link in the chain and open it up, if you have a Shimano chain you need a chain break tool to run the chain through the new FD. This set has both tools AND quick links to add in if you got a shimano chain for $12: amzn.to/4cyx4Ic Here is the Claris FD: amzn.to/3zf9dPm Here is an excellent Park tool vid that'll have you setup in no time: ua-cam.com/video/ZNG7g83lI-s/v-deo.html
Found this on reddit, thank you for taking the time to make the video. I pretty much wanna copy this build but I wanna paint the frame British racing green and do custom lettering, I think it'll look sick. Do you have part numbers for the shifters and front and rear derailleur? I'm new to bike stuff and I don't wanna accidentally order a part that doesn't fit my bike. I have an 88 trek 1000 too, white with red lettering, down tube shifters still. Thank you!
Hi Wilfredo thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! I have a couple awesome steel rebuilds coming out soon I'm sure you'll love! Congrats on your bike this is a sweet frame! Bought another like this but the front deraleur is messed up won’t shift. Now I see the spring is connected to nothing. What front deraliur is compatible
Thanks for the question and please take a moment to subscribe, thanks for the support! I am ALWAYSSSS replacing these not-so-great Sora front derailleurs with the next generation and it's a HUGE improvement! Easy to setup too! Front derailleur here: amzn.to/4c5QAf2
@@D2WrenchWorksDIY thanks . Pity I can’t find stock in my area. I read somewhere the 9 speed can work but will cross chain easier then a 8 speed
Yeah it definitely will, I would do a Claris 8 speed instead. Maybe you can find a Microshift R8 3-speed, those are nice also. I have to use Amazon myself, I can't ever find local sadly.
What an awesome bike
Thanks, I appreciate it! Don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already! Lots more bikes like to come!
Hi nice to see your OCR3,I also using this bike , I would like to change headset ,please let me know kind of headset of this OCR3, tq
Thanks for the question and please take a moment to subscribe! I can't be sure without measuring your headset to be 100% sure, but I think this is what you have. It should use a 41.4mm headset that is semi-integrated and this is exactly that here: amzn.to/3KHjTZi
