Mutable Instruments Shruthi-1 demo - fun with custom patches and sequencing

- Sounds from my Shruthi-1 (CEM3379 filters). Probably one of the nicest monophonic synths out there, imho (lot of synth for your buck, at least). This was all an experiment as I wanted to get to know her better and see what she could pull off besides bone shattering acid riffs. This Shruthi-1 was built by Paul Cameron. (I know he has more of them in stock, give me a shout if you want to buy one and I'll pass on the contact.)
I create my patches with Xavier Hosxe's editor: github.com/Ixo...
The pedal at the end i Dr. Scientist's BitQuest, a wonderful multi-effect that just wrecks lovely havoc on synths.

Still great every time.
Beautiful melody ! Great feeling !
Track and presentation were really good. Went through a couple playthroughs already.
Yiah! Cheers Paul Chambers! Nice build!
Monophonic is too hardcore for my lazy ass, but your song is superb! Your love for the little bugger shines through something awful!
Very very nice! Fab work 😊
Thank you
Great music, great video!
Great man!!
Where can I get that case?
Great track, onya mate
Thanks a lot! I bought my shruthi from this guy, I don't know if he has more cases but try give him a holler: www.ebay.com/usr/renovator7766?_trksid=p2047675.l2559
This filter board is very rare. I have a collection of Shruthi : I really like them but I must admit that I would like to get better waveforms (I also tried the Yam firmware, but it's not enough) because you can hear noise on high pitches on several waveforms.
Actually, I think someone should make a Shruthi MK2 with an updated motherboard, allowing quality hi-res waveforms (not only 8 bits). Why not based on Plaits oscillators ? It would be a must have.
Émilie retired the Shruthi project a while ago. An updated motherboard would require to port the firmware to a new architecture which can be quite a bit of work.
It's all open source though, so you could try for yourself.
@@quaxBK I know, but I'm not a programmer nor an electronic engineer. I wish someone could update this concept of synth. The best would be to keep the dimensions and the connections, then shruthi's owners could just upgrade their motherboard without buying the filter board and casing again.
I often wonder why a company such as Arturia doesn't adopt this concept...
@@arkasonus7678 Speaking of Arturia, the MicroFreak is kind of a similar concept, no? Digital oscillators + analog filter. It even comes with Plaits oscillators!
Granted, the form factor is a bit different, but other than that it seems like everything you want & more.
@@quaxBK Yes I was thinking about the MicroFreak... but I like the concept of little boxes (Shruthi, PreenFm2, MicroMonsta...) and mutliple filters.
@@arkasonus7678 Yeah I definitely see where you're coming from. The problem is mainly that it's not really possible to just update the chip inside of the Shruthi. There's no 32bit drop-in replacement (to my knowledge), so you'd have to design a whole new motherboard around a new chip, at which point I think most people just move on to more popular DIY-stuff like Eurorack.
I am currently looking for one of these darlings. Would appreciate if you could lemme know how I can contact the guy you bought yours from. Thx
Hi! Sorry for the late reply, this is the guy, and last I spoke to him he had more of the model above built for sale: www.ebay.com/usr/renovator7766?_trksid=p2047675.l2559
can i ask you question about the Shruthi 1 please ? it's because i bought one today :)
I'm not an expert at all :) But yes, of course?
@@FronasMusic what i need to do to plug it on a synth ?
What filter board is used?
