The SMR4 sounds so narrowbanded. Thanks for the comparison. Phoenix is nicely colorful

This is really helpful. So interesting to hear the differences.

Really helpful to be able to hear how various filter types compare using the same sequence. Thanks very much! SMR4 is my favourite with Dual SVF a close second.

Great vid! Exactly what I needed! I have a XT with the SMR4, however I miss bandpass filtering...
So I would say after this comparison, I think I´ll swap filter for Dual SVF Or Phoenix 4 pole might be right for me.

It could be a nice comparison if the movements on the knobs were the same for each demo ... it's good to play with resonance, but, for example, the ladders, can't be heard without resonance and with env at the maximum. I regret that. But the opportunity of offering such a demo is awesome. Thanks for that. Want more !

this would have bee a bit too complex, but that's an idea :-D

Would be nice to hear the same demo using a slower sequence. At this speed, the notes become blurred and you can’t hear the envelope and how the filter reacts clearly.

time permitting I can try with a new, slower sequence...

i didn't know there were so many filter options for shruthi.
i recently picked up a built ambika poly synth with the SMR4 boards fitted and im pleasantly surprised how great it sounds.
apparently the polivoks option is a bit much for a poly from what ive read but it sound good on a mono synth.
a shruthi is now on my want list.

yes, there are different flavours (event more than the six I have in this video). Some are available for the Ambika as well.
Ambika sounds great, I also have one and I have built other 5 so far. (BTW I have one on eBay right now ;-) )

i'm in the process of building a shruthi. i have two filter boards. a sm4 and a lp2 delay. i was going build the delay first. it's supposed to have the ms10 filter in it. thanks for your demos.

Cool, it's a nice little synth!

So I built both filter boards, I only have one control board. The SMR4 has a really harsh resonance. I like the LP2 delay better, since the delay is really fun for playing stand alone. It's like a groove box.

    I have several units:
    Dual SVF
    Ladder
    SSM
    Yellow Magic
    SMR4
    Polivoks
    4 PM
I discovered the synth too late to get the early filters like CEM and IR3109.
I really regret that Mutable Instruments stopped it.
I would love to see a new version with better oscillators (especially since they made Plaits eurorack oscillator).

What's the deal with these early mi synths - they just don't sound special to me.
Genuinely interested - I just dont get it

It's a fun DIY project, though now you have to source your own parts. So for around $100, your can make your own and learn about components and soldering and solder wick. My LP2 delay sounds really cool, lofi dubby , which I like.

@@channelite Cheers, I can see the DIY element adding to the fun. And of course the low cost.
I just finished a MicroDexed build today. It cost around $100 in parts too.
      Thanks for the reply

I'm curious what synths you think sound special? What are you comparing it to?
