Love that wagon. I had the four door sedan version and this car was incredible. I converted it into a rally racer with 45mm Delorto carbs and it ran like a rocket!

My Dad owned this car, even the same colour! From about 2005 until he died in 2017. By the end it was a hunk of junk that ran on pure willpower and he still had random car collectors offering to buy it off of him! He was a mechanic and he used every trick in the book to keep it running (the starter usually needed a smack with the wrench to start, block heater in the winter, the bumper fell off at one point and he welded it back on in the driveway, it couldn’t even get up to highway speed...)

We use to sell those in Puerto Rico, we had a dealer Gramps and my dad RIP, they use to put a rotary engine or 8 cylinders on them

My mom had one of those back in the mid 80's! Second gear was broken so she had to rev the snot out of it in first then shift to third and feather the clutch. To this day every time she drives a manual transmission she skips second gear on instinct.

My family owned a 1980 Toyota Corolla Wagon 3S Automatic. I drove this car in high school (1984-1986). PIckup was slow, and it maxed out at 70 MPH on a flat road (74 MPH going downhill), but it was very dependable. My family sold the car to my cousin in 1988 with 220K miles on it and my cousin drove it for at least 4 more years (not sure how many miles it had on it when she sold it).
Overall lots of fond memories driving this car.

my dad had one of these, 5 speed and all in the early 90s. i think it was an 81 as well. i remember watching the rubber shifter boot jiggle when he'd shift. he'd also installed an aftermarket cassette deck and speakers mounted to the back of the rear bench seat. our piano teacher ended up just taking it
    thanks for attending my tedtalk

Came across this video as I currently have been loaned a 1980 model of the Corolla wagon and was thinking of purchasing it, after thus video I'm really leaning towards keeping it!! It's it fairly good condition as far as I can tell after only really driving it for a couple of days!!!!!

After securing a city job I was looking for a simple daily to go to work. I searched online for a basic corolla, nothing fancy just a plain jane daily. I was on OfferUp and I saw a guy was selling a brown 81 Toyota Corolla Wagon 5 speed for $2,500. I showed my dad who's been a mechanic for over 26 years (now 31) and he said "you don't find those anymore, if you buy it it has to be for show". So he checked it out and offered the guy $1,800. The guy was divorcing his wife and he needed to get rid of the car asap, so he took the money and the car has been in my possession ever since. I get constant stares and plenty of thumbs up from everyone. The car has 100k original miles, same motor and tranny. He gave me two original carburetors but they couldn't take the long journeys to car meets so I had to go brand new. I get offered money all the time for the car and I turn them all down. I shall be buried in this car, I'd sell my LS430 before I sell my baby. She's the MILF, my 99 Corolla is my wife and my LS is my mistress

Great review Man and that thing is fukin dope... Looks awesome and it sounds even better.
I got one here in Pakistan and its a sedan that my Dad "RIP" bought in the year 86. We still have it and it runs great. This thing is reliable and comfortable and if you don't break it, it will last you for a lifetime. These old school rear wheelers have a unique driving pleasure of their own.
Best part is the smile it brings on your face when you pump it. Thoroughly enjoyed your review...

My dad had one of these from 1981 to 1987 in Holland. It was the very basic version, with the 4K (1.3 liter 4 speed) engine. But, it had a passenger side mirror and a heated rear window. But that was about it. No clock (which was an option). Only 3 warning lights on the dash. Of course no airco (which did not exist in Europe). Eventually traded in for a 1985 Mazda 323 wagon.

I know I'm dating my self, but my very first car was the 1980 corolla 1.8 3TC engine in light blue that came with the four round lights on it. These cars were very popular amongst that Puerto Rican community on the east coast. especially in the 90's along with the 85 SR5 model. A lot of them were shipped to Puerto Rico where you can still find them till this day. Still my favorite car of all time.

Had an '82, metallic fleck paint and a "fancy" chrome luggage rack. Treated it like a covered pickup truck. The backend was so easy to drift on and since it had a predictable engine it was fun but not too much fun.
