Probably the BEST video on ball striking for irons I’ve seen on UA-cam. Clay makes it simple and easily understood. 👍🏾👍🏾
Glad you enjoyed it. Play well!
Clay, your instruction is second to none. You explain things so well and everything is logical and has a purpose. I tried your putting grip with the left hand following my lifeline and immediately it changed my putting for ever. I can't thank you enough, there's are valuable secrets that most teachers don't have the ability to convey.
Really enjoyed this video from Clay. I think he is an excellent teacher.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Clay some great tips. I have learned so much from you. My irons play has been much improved recently and it’s become fun again to hit mid irons.. Love the tips. They really help!
Glad to hear it
I have watched many UA-cam videos on golf swings, and different ways of presenting the swing components. I always keep coming back to your videos. If it had not been for Covid-19, working for LMHS this summer I would have come by to personally thank you. I just played my 20th round of golf ever in my life. I worked hard to get the swing these videos teach, and now I'm there. I had most of it down, but the one thing I was doing wrong was too much shaft lean. I think that lean angle was being exaggerated for teaching purposes, but I was thinking I needed to have that much lean through contact. This made me hit less fat shots, but I was too low to the ground and legs both quite bent. I researched lean angle at contact, and when I fixed that, my posture through impact was easy, and I have started hitting great shots easier and more consistently. I have not broken 100 yet, but average between 100 and 110. Now that I know the proper lean angle, and have solidified everything in your videos, I am just working on consistency (not forgetting to rotate all the way through, etc.). One thing most people never mention that you did in this video, and I have wondered about for a long time, was the right elbow and whether or not it should be bent at contact. I see some have almost no bend, I have a bit, and your video discussed having some bend, so I feel better now. And I have been working on driver and have been hitting much straighter every time, I'm not scared to use it anymore and the houses are happier too. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing! Keep up the hard work!
I really look forward to your videos, great content and excellent explanation. Keep up the great work Clay!
Thanks, will do!
Wow thanks for this vid! Rolling the hands with my irons what’s the missing link to my swing. Your a life saver!
Glad to help!
Wow.I am playing golf for quite awhile and nobody explained delofting as simply as you have.Thank for a great video.Cant wait to bring this to the course
Another great video with clear and precise info. I’m starting to compress my irons better after seeing this. It’s definitely work in progress but I’ve noticed that extra club length you mentioned.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this iron drill. Can't wait to hit the range
Have fun!
Great tips - I'm going to incorporate them into my warm-up as well. Love the hammer analogy...
Thanks!
Looking forward to this 😁👍
Hope you like it!
Hi Clay, the best coaching on the net by a long shot, not only that you explain the technic, you actually personally show it/ perform it. I just started with my shorter irons , progressing into my longer irons and I am doing ok ( few shanks, few really big digs into the ground) but overall when I connect its great. My driver is still the problem ( looks like I am still casting). I guess I am thinking too much instead of trusting and committing to the proper routine. Thank you Cheers
Wow! Thanks!
Thank you, Clay. I learned this drill of the iron shot as never had before for the correct distance .tjk
My pleasure!
Great drills! Heading to the range now.
Best of luck!
Great explanation! Been battling the flip for years. Can't wait to practice these drills!
You got this!

Cant wait to hit the range Thursday..big match coming up next week at oak island. Thanks for the help bro
Good luck!
Thanks coach.
Any time!
I did the "split hand grip" as my pre shot routine today while playing today, wholly crap does it help, thanks Clay you have helped take about 5 shots off my score within 3 weeks of signing up to your courses, wish I found you earlier instead of wasting nearly 10 months on another "online course"
Awesome, that's great to hear!
Excellent!
Many thanks!
Wow this is just great. I think I finally realised how to avoid casting with your wrist movement explanation. Thanks a lot!
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic. What I really need is a Hip drill. Tend to be late in opening, which leads to some challenges. Keep those tips coming for the hackers like me
Thanks!
cool, cool, cool!
Thanks!
The hammer drill is so good I even use it as my practice swing so easy but so good
I love it!
Thank you so much for great lessons!!! What should we do when practising at driving ranges with hard grass mats instead of real grass? Hitting so hard really hurt the wrists☹️
Really enjoy all your videos Clay and thanks for doing them! I never take much divot at all. I watched another of your iron videos and paid attention to the "flat spot" at the bottom of the swing. I have a long flat spot even with my hands ahead of the ball. I don't flip it, I pull the grip end up as i come through, but don't know how to fix it?
Hi Bobby, I wouldn't try to fix that. If you're getting forward shaft lean and coming in shallow then that is ideal. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf Thank You for the reply!
Excellent drills and explanations! I'm off to the range with my 5-iron - and an old iPad.
Thanks! Best of luck.
Clay thank you for your videos they are helping my game. Question: I was hitting a bucket of balls and after I noticed bruising on my right forearm about 6inches above the wrist. What am I doing wrong? Again Thank You
My pleasure. I'm not sure. The only thing I can think of is that it could be from the butt end of the club hitting your arm as the club head passes in front of the arms. The drills in this video will help you to release the club more out in front which should help. You also might be gripping the club too much in the palm. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hey Clay, do you recommend actually hitting some balls with the split hand grip, or just taking practice swings? Thanks!
Just practice swings. Thanks!
Hey Clay! Can you do another grip video? I've been struggling on just where to place the club in both hands. Also I keep switching back and forth between overlapping and interlocking. Cant find a grip I'm comfortable with.
Hope this video helps: ua-cam.com/video/_6FBZ4sNUvY/v-deo.html
Yessir! Thank you!
wish I was more consistent with my irons. I am a natural picker and would love to be able to compress more.
Hope the video helps!
Great stuff as slways! Clay, I have you on my GHIN list and see you are a +5!! Why didnt you play pro??
You have to be better than that.
@@TopSpeedGolf Thanks for the reply! Would love to see you on the pro tour some day! Appreciate the great content you put out in the mean time
Insightful instructions as usual. It seems your hands are actually moving slightly left while the club head is moving inside to out at impact. I have, unconsciously I guess, been swinging my hands at the ball. Once I let my swing go left and the the club head go out to square at impact the swing was more natural and the impact was solid. Any thoughts on this?
That's good. Sounds like you're on the right track. Keep up the hard work!
He throw the ball to water! This shows hows passionated by his work
😂
Which model shoes are those? I've been looking for a new pair of clean Nikes.
They are Nike Lunar but they are an older model.
I want to do this drill but I'm still waiting on my irons from Club Champion. It's been 30 days since I got fitted... :(
Hope you can get them soon!
30 days?!?! Man that makes me nervous for mine. My fitter did say its probably gonna take 3 weeks but I cant wait 30 lol. What clubs and shafts did you get fitted for?
Hi clay, if you compress it too much will the ball flight be too low?
It would be tough to compress the ball too much. You could deloft the face too much which would add compression and make the ball go too low with not enough spin. There are a lot of things that go into compression though. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
My problem is that I have difficulty with a full finish to my swing. Consequently my weight shift occurs after the ball is struck results in far & thin shots with divots in front, not after. Also, as my weight shift is late, due in part to a broken left ankle in my youth, the face is usually open at impact. When I consciously concentrate to slide to my left then rotate to a full swing finish, the low point moves to in front of the ball with a shallow divot. Unfortunately, the way my ankle healed, it is very difficult to overcome years of compensating for the difficulty of placing most of my weight on my left leg. Despite this and starting golf in my middle 20’s, I was able to achieve a handicap of 5 at my best, even with compensating moves. It wasn’t or isn’t easy!
Great video Clay. What hat is that you're wearing.
Thanks. It's a Nike sun hat.
What is the role of right leg in this compressing iron to the ball? I see you are shifting weight first to front leg by lifting right heel no one talks about it is the most important move in downswing.
You need to push off the trail leg to get momentum and pressure into the lead leg. Very important for sure.
luke wilson gives the best golf advice tbh.
😂
@@TopSpeedGolf hey but for real man, you really do have the best videos, its a perfect blend of feel and technique. others are really technical but dont tell you what you should be feeling, which we all know what you feel and what you actually do are different things. and others are too feel based and dont help you understand why your doing what your doing... you really do have the magic formula Clay, thank you!
the inner game of golf
Thanks for the comment
Where are you located?
Longwood, FL
at 21:55 who had visions of that club breaking
Haha
1:18 ... "... wherever you ARE." NOT, "... wherever you're AT."
😂
The explanation at 2:25 is muddled and confusing. He begins by making a point about how to make good, pure contact, which in my experience feels more like the ball springing instantly off the face, not sticking to it. Anyway, he goes on to talk about delofting the club face. Is this the cause or the effect of making pure contact? Then he throws in a situation where you wouldn’t deloft the face (a cut). Too many scattered thoughts thrown together. This should be a five minute video. Cut the extraneous thoughts, and present the info in an organized way. A script would help.
Thanks for the feedback. Hope you're playing well!
If you had a “thanks” button like many other teachers, I would send you $5 each time your video changes me. Consider.

What happened to the beard?
He still has it. This is a compilation of our best videos to pure irons so some of the videos are older. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
