I've had one of these for over a year now and used in extensively on 4 wheel overlanding trips. The awning is pretty good except that it is a bit fragile. Rhino designed it to sacrifice the plastic hinge pivots to save the light weight polls and awning material in wind. The problem is that these plastic hinges break very easily. A gust of wind can lift the awning and the hinges snap. I suppose they had to compromise someplace between strength, weight and durability. The finges are not too expensive (about $15 for a pair) and fairly easy to replace but this last weekend for the 4th or 5th trip where an errant gust of wind lifted the awning to a point where one or more hinges broke, even though I try to be pretty carful when deploying or stowing the awning. I've finally decided it's just not worth all the trouble and have taken it off my Jeep.

I had one of their standard awnings with the same issue/ the hinges just suck. I’d almost rather they make them breakaway vs just breakable. You *have* to get your guy lines right.

Did you have it staked down? Will wind still break it even when staked down?

@@mattdelcomyn8012 I learned to stake it down every time I used it. You need 3 stakes per leg so it's a bit awkward to set up. Also one the failures happened when packing it away. A big gust of wind caught it without all the stakes and lifted it over the RTT breaking the pivot hinge.

@@robertlamishaw1728 Thanks for the elaboration. That does sound pretty finicky and fragile! You've got me considering other, simpler options. Much appreciated!

Hi mate, I think that you forgot to mention that in the middle of the roof sections between the poles you can attach a guy rope to assist with heavy rain. Other than that i think you've done an excellent presentation. Cheers

Hi! Thanks for the video. We have a soft top JK so we had to install a Garvin Expedition Rack. Can this compact awning be mounted to that style of rack? Thanks again!

I see some adapters from Rhino for a Tubular bar, but nothing specific with Garvin. It will depend on how thick the bar is compared to their bracket. If I remember correctly about Garvin I would imagine it would work but I have not physically tried the two together to confirm.
