@spacy What you're saying is true for today, not at all back then. No wonder our PM is facing the corrupt politicians music and fixing it too. And no wonder one hears many cries out of such politicians.
If you've never flown then I wouldn't expect you to understand, but they acted properly. I did respond to your comment - the "good morning" was just to establish communication while they focused their attention on the more pressing matters. They wanted to give the time intensive message (the problem) when they were ready to give it, and not before. The pilots are in charge, not ATC. They will do what they need to fly safely. ATC doesn't need to know right away (hence the "standby")
I was just going to agree with you until the point in your post that stated, " the "good morning" was just to establish communication while they focused their attention on the more pressing matters"
PIA has been using these B747s since the early 70s, but it is amazing to see despite, such an old aircraft the pilots are very very experienced and managed to do a very beautiful landing. Simply Amazing..... Too bad PIA does not have enoungh financial strength to buy them pilots the latest A340s and A380s, instead dumb pilots of Israel and other middle eastern pilots have them.
stupid Atc controller.Pilot is not stupid to go around and waste more fuel .There are reasons which only pilot can understand.Good decision taken by pilot .
Urm The atc controllers job is to ask the reason for go arounds? What is she meant to do let planes fly by with her thumb in her ass? Idiots like you shouldn’t bother commenting on videos with dumb comments. Their the professionals. Nobody needs your dumb opinion muppet
You've clearly never flown an aircraft, so I won't waste too much time here. A go around is the time of highest workload for a crew, and he's doing the things that are most important first. They're dealing with flying the aircraft and cleaning it up, as well as thinking about dealing with the landing gear issue. The crew makes a quick establishment of communication with the new freq, gets the important bit out of the way (concerning the current heading) and then reports the issue - textbook.
@Arkham1888 - Did you not hear the pilot talking about the "landing gear LIGHT" not being right which I'm guessing means that all three lights weren't green and the pilots have no way of making sure that the gears are down without the three lights going green which is the reason why they've went around.
No, the reason was the landing gear light. That's what they reported and we have no other information to go off. Needless to say, crews don't make up things to cover a handling failure. If this was a go around due to too hot and too high (which it wasn't), they would have said.
@Arkham1888 I agree maybe a pilot mistake. HOWEVER i would not say "VERY BAD PILOTS". You dont know what the situation was, maybe they got cleared to land straight in, with other traffic in the pattern also waiting. So its possible they were told to expidate and therefore were not able to set the proper configurations, or reduce speed. so please, they are not bad pilots. Also i am quite sure a 747 can land with flaps set 20, if it has very low fuel and low payload (transit flight).
Yeah, it's the crews' discretion when to give an answer. Not stupid at all, they were busy and dealing with other things, hence the "standby". I'd put forward that it was ATC acting improperly here, they shouldn't have asked so many times after the "standby".
@Arkham1888 I don't care that they had a bad reason to go around, a pilot doesnt need a damn reason, if they arent feeling it, they should go around. I would much rather have a pilot go around because he just felt something was slightly off than have them try to force the landing. Obviously not very bad pilots, considering they made it all the way to a 747.
its awesome..gud 2 take every safety measure.. he said standby and the air traffic controller said ok but den the lady came and she asked... so it doesnt mean that they had 2 ask 3 times..there were also 2 people asking..
Actually the normal order would be 1) fly, 2) navigate, 3) talk to ATC. Worldwide it's accepted, aviate, navigate, communicate. Talking to ATC does not go ahead of navigation.
the 747s were banned from EU airspace due to age and service history. apparently the maintainence records/intervals or standards were not as high as EU law require. they then decided to buy second hand 777s which have been accepted into the airspace. saying that pls keep in mind i heard this down the grape vine so may not be 100% accurate but should be pretty close.
if crew of PK8303 that crashed in May 2020, if they initiate go around then the crash was avoidable. outside Pakistan they follow the procedures but within Pakistan they avoid rules, regulations and procedures. Now things are getting much better
In theory yes, but not always the case. I'm only a private pilot, but i know a few airline pilots who are indeed, excellent at their jobs, but you try getting them to send a text message, or type a letter on Word for instance & they haven't a clue!! I Guess everyone excels in some areas & fails in others..!!
No.. The tower asked why he was going around, he said standby.. The tower handed him off to approach, so he was asked to give that reason to approach.. He contacted approach and didn't give the reason, therefore approach asked him why.
@webwings76 Agreed, no wonder the airline industry has gone to crap, the people don't respect what makes an airplane stay aloft, nor do they respect the men who have to keep them there.
@Arkham1888 How do you wanna see the flap setting during the first approach? Obviously the GoAround procedure demands a partial retraction: You hit TOGA thrust, retract the flaps to GoAround setting, and raise the gear. So when the 747 flyes abeam the camera, the flaps are already in GoAround position (I am no 747 pilot, I don't know the setting - Airbus is simple...one step less than during approach ;) ). Geez...funny how you pedestrians always rate pilot's work without any inside knowledge...
You should watch the clip again. It is not that they were buys doing 'important stuff''. They were saying other crap in their broken English like 'good morning' (when they were asked the 2nd time) but did not care to respond to the reason of Go Around. These people are not the smartest tool in the shed.
the reason for the go around was the first officer was doing the landing and was to high so the captain took over and gave the control tower some bull shit to save the airline from getting a fine.
I'm in love with that ROAR of the Jet Engines the moment the pilot decides for the go around. Just so kool to hear it.
Golden era of PIA 😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤
Wow...that's a really old 747!
GUIKE how old are you? That plan is still not as old as you're older.
GUIKE Gentleman let’s agree to say “she’s seasoned”
Great decision and perfect landing
Nice landing Captain !!!!!
People who are here in 2024 and miss boeing 747

I am here man!
That was a pretty smooth landing.
Pia known for smooth landings
Fawad Khalid landed like a BOSSS👌🏾
@spacy That was a mishap, as if British Airways never had one.

I love that loud hum sound on the pilots microphone!

@@omarismith3655 If she had her thumb in her ass, London would be burning with jet fuel all over. Boy does she do a good job better.
SEXY Landing and Filming ! PIA Always Clasic !
very gooooood job,,, bravo ,,, pia pilots

Ben Kolbeck well said 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
very professional :D
Very amazing landing
I don't think PIA 747s have been banned from European air space. Where does this come from? That's a fine airline, the launch customer for 777LR.
Very Impressive Landing
Great video- thanks for uploading!
At least that’s a very smooth landing
I think everyone will be applauded for the smooth landing

i am always intrigued by the pilot - tower convo
Fantastic capture!
well whether it was a gear prblem or not the ATC and pilots handled the situation very well
great video thnx for uploading
THAT'S A LOVELY GO AROUND.
why were the ATC controllers more focused on the reason for go around and not on confirming the heading? ...just curious
PIA is best for the world for people's i love PIA
i was just abt to type it ...but found you ... it was really beautiful..

I agree, they and very very experienced, Btw I am a pilot.
is it really a landing gear problem? or is it a missed approach? will the local athorities verify the plane after?
How'd you tap into the ATC?
Unsafe landing gear lights. Also Had warnings for the landing gears.
Most likely the gears are not locked down in place.
Elegant.
@Arkham1888 I don't care that they had a bad reason to go around, a pilot doesnt need a damn reason, if they arent feeling it, they should go around. Unstable approach was the reason for the go around.
a mistake was made just like any human being in his job... fair play to the pilot for going around and he also made a very nice touchdown
@Arkham1888 its not the flaps its tail wind and electronic alert to a failed landing gear..
Yeh some of the old PIA a/c were banned due to poor maintenance. The 777's are still allowed.
Allah swt is the greatest 😢
such a kool go around
Yeah & A320's. They just started one route from LBA - Islamabad 3 times a week.
its awesome..gud 2 take every safety measure.. he said standby and the air traffic controller said ok but den the lady came and she asked... so it doesnt mean that they had 2 ask 3 times..there were also 2 people asking..
m4hmatias@ I agree! The pilot says "Unsafe landing gear lights." in 1:34.
@franklinboeing: Not to forget about the superb landing they finally performed after flying all night long, going around etc.

@MsZeddapiras 2:48 smooth touch down,PIA have best pilots in world.
Why did he go around? Was the localizer not a match?
I think it was a very good landing! a bit to far but very soft...

No.. The tower asked why he was going around, he said standby.. The tower handed him off to approach, so he was asked to give that reason to approach.. He contacted approach and didn't give the reason, therefore approach asked him why.

This is one of the oldest videos I have seen on UA-cam. 17 years old wow.
Didn’t even know back then that UA-cam existed.
it had nothing to do with the landing gear light.
Howcome simon always catches incidents like this lol
the captain had to think of a good reason.
Yeah thats why it's a 7474 ......!
You should watch the clip again. It is not that they were buys doing 'important stuff''. Sargent Law
which airline did you serve before committing such a mistake? You were the first officer remember, or forgot cuz the drink got you higher?
Nah, you can hear the reason through the radio transmission: "unsafe landing gear light".-
