What are the different "techniques" on the defensive line? 3 technique, 5 technique, etc, and what kinds of players fit best at each technique? Aka people that are shorter? Taller? Quicker? Stronger? Etc.
The techniques essentially mean on what shoulder a D lineman is on of the offensive player. If a Nose Tackle is directly facing the Centre it's called a 0 technique.

Watching the game I wondered about the following. Besides the players there's so much staff on the sideline. What do they all do, e.g. why an (offensive) play-caller, when there is a coordinator. Why a coordinator when there is a head coach... So who controls what?

Hey JT, question from Sunday's football game. It was under two minutes in the fourth quarter of the Seahawks vs Falcons game where the Flacons were trailing by 10. After driving down the field to the 27 yard line with 1:17 left in the game, the Falcons decided to kick the field goal and attempt to get the onside kick to then with a touchdown. Although they weren't able to get the onside kick, my question is when a team needs 10 points with no timeouts under two minutes, should teams go for the touchdown while near the redzone and hope to get the field goal after the onside kick or go for the field goal near the red zone and get a touchdown after the onside kick. My Dad thinks by going for a field goal, the coach knows the exact amount of time needed to score a touchdown while if you tried to get a touchdown first, you don't know how much time will be spent. Me on the other hand believes that due to driving it up all the way near the red zone, you have momentum and the defense should be low on energy. Going for a field goal will kill your players momentum and give the other team a break.
Great question. Never thought of both sides in that way. I would normally say go for the TD, because it gives you more options on that second drive if you get the onside kick. You only need to make it to FG range, not a hail mary TD. Although you have less time.
Hi JT - I can see on TV how a QB goes through his pre snap reads with WR motions etc but can you explain how a post snap read is taught and how it's become complicated with what the defense does in terms of adapting coverage based on route patterns?

Once the qb reports it to the rest of the team it can’t be changed, right? Is it possible that the qb notice something in the D’s movements that makes him realize that the play called is going to fail? And if that happens, can he change the play on the fly?

If you're playing outside leverage, you're funneling the players inside, where you have help. If you're leverage inside, you're funneling them outside because that's where you're help will be.

In a video like the zone coverages video, can you go over different types of offenses and what they attack? Like west coast, air raid, ect
