Taxus Root over Rock Uncovering and Styling in Winter

- 11 years ago I put a seedling on top over a rock. Letting it grow out over the years, annually pruning and wiring has resulted in a slowly aged tree, approaching a windswept-root-over-rock bonsai.
This root over rock Taxus Bonsai has now managed to fully clasp the rock.
Uncovering these Yes roots means the nebari will no longer develop. As it was overgrown, I prune back the Yew Bonsai and create a new Yin fro extended overgrown branches on this bonsai. Fortunately I do not need to repot this Taxus (Yew) root over rock bonsai this season!
I'm so glad that you still make both styles of videos rather than decide that maybe fans prefer one over the other. As a fan I cannot choose which is better. I love the knowledge from the instructional style, but then I watch one like this and wow the music was actually really good! Sometimes it's just nice to watch an artist work their craft.
Yes, both types are great.
Music is perfect for this vid. Made me anticipate that something magical is about to happen and sure enough, it did.
Loved!!!! this video! It is good to exercise my brain to self-describe what you are doing and why. The music is soothing. THANKS!
I love it when a bonsai artist takes us through his journey without a word. Great music and great work on a great-looking Taxus. Bonsai Fever is hitting hard!
Very nice tree! And very calming video and music!👏🏼
Tien elf jaar vanaf een zaailing… bedankt weer Jelle 👍
Awesome video, loved it. Perfect blend of vibe and content. Had my attention from start to finish. ♥🎶🌲
I love so much this tree, it has so much potential and it has a llt of personality
Inspiring video for my own taxus training. Love the camera editing style too.
This was wonderful!! Please never stop making content! lol Thanks Jelle.
Great little video!
I dont know if it was a recent video or not. You asked if we prefered you talking or not. I definitely prefer you talking, nonetheless, great vid!
Nice way to start the day.
Beautiful video and a beautiful tree. Thanks for braving the cold to capture your process.
Well done Jell, i like this video...
That looks awesome! Well done.
Beautiful ror bonsai👍
Great result
Nice work, as always.
Looks very nice!
Such a beautiful tree! The roots look spectacular!
Such a lovely video! Beautiful composition and filming!
Love, love, love! An amazing tree in such a short period of time. Patience has really paid off, here.
The vision of what a tree can be is one of the hardest parts of bonsai for me; did you have this image in mind 10 years ago, or is it more of an evolutionary process? Whichever way, keep it up!! 😍
Nice choice to use the same music from last year's video on this tree, really reinforces the continuity.
And hurray for uncovering the roots! How much loss of that root mass are you at risk of seeing, on this tree or any other? (Obviously you want none, but that seems like a decent fraction of fibrous roots anchoring to the rock but not making it to the soil.)
Jelle, I have to do root over rock now, its all your fault. Love the tree and the snow melting montage.
Looking very nice Jelle - has the tree actually clung to the rock?
complimenti molto bello
so cool!
Is the foil staying off now?
Beautiful material and surroundings. Do you mind me asking what part of the world you are in?
Awesome wiring!
I didn't know I could do root over rock using foil rather than fix roots over the rock and bury in the soil. Or is the foil a second stage of the process 🤔
👍👌🙂
Beautiful tree and beautiful video!!!
I mean no disrespect here, Jelle, but as wonderful as this video was (even the music was good... low-key, not over-the-top or whatever), I so much prefer your normal style of presentation. I enjoy hearing you talk and meander through your thinking of how to attack a tree. I enjoy the mistakes in words or whatever that you choose to keep in the videos. Whether they be videos that were made over a day or ones that took a couple years to show progression of the tree, I enjoy them more when you talk and give your insights to bonsai as you practice the art of bonsai.
But, and maybe this is just the American in me (but don't think of that word politically here!), I just don't get the clogs! lol...
Again, no disrespect here at all! Love your stuff and sometimes I do feel disappointment if I don't see a new video for a week. But I can persevere if I know it will eventually post. ;)
hi! hope your doing well, what specie it is?
Next can you do an hour long video with a bunch of chitchat please? Don't care what you talk about (could be idle chatter, dad jokes, thinking out loud...) as long as you're doing something planty and it's a long video...
in my opinion rock is too big
