      @@farmrrick early Japanese plane design has great emphasis on offensive capability hence, no defensive capability at all.

    This story is about Saburo Sakai life story taken from a book which started from his childhood to his life in the Navy, marrying Hatsuyo and his life after the war.

    The story picks up almost 2 years after his injury it appears. He talks about the loss of his eye but I think he lost the use of his left hand as well.

      @@jamesstewart2543 He regained the use of his limbs after recovering. But he was permanently blind in the one eye. He did manage to fly with 1 hand and 1 foot, half blinded and losing blood for the 3 hour return flight to Rabaul. Nobody knows how he managed it. Least of all him.
      The scary thing was how many of the few surviving Japanese "Elite" experienced pilots by 1945 were missing various bits and pieces. It almost took three pilots to make a whole one.

      @@juliusjohnson4829The Japanese did a lot to be ashamed of including conscripting Korean women and forcing them to be prostitutes for their armies and giving them heroin to keep them quiet. The few still alive a few years ago just wanted an apology and they wouldn’t do it. I think the last one died recently.

    I found the air combat over Iwo fascinating. However, I will never understand why the American pilots didn't anticipate Sakai's left roll after he repeatedly used it to evade their guns.

      Because this never happened. It's mostly made up "memories." Records never match his claims.

    I generally like the stories that are given here and they are reasonably accurate, however it does not show what they did to the Russians in the 30s and the Chinese. Would you consider telling those stories after all 25 million people died because of it

    And then he caught a fish so big it fed half of Japan!!!! Not sure if this guy has ever told an accurate story. Saki was a good pilot but the records never match his claims.

      Saburo Sakai's A6M from Rabaul was found at Gasmata and restored, and is now in the Australian War Memorial. www.awm.gov.au/collection/C111051
      Not fiction, we have not just the paper records, but the aircraft.

      The Japanese being the aggressor needs to have a flaw at least, otherwise, it would have caused more casualties to the allies or it would have caused a different result to the war.
