    The Americans did all they could to mitigate the effects of chance (luck). The Japanese did not. On a side note, I've listened to a lot of these histories, and if there is one thing that stands out, it is the unprepared ness of the US to have an effective submarine force in the early 1940's. Subs were cheap to build, and by 1944 were a very strong force in the Pacific war.

    My dad was in the Okinawa campaign and was on Keramarhetto and was in a group that discovered a cache of the little suicide boats. They were found to be powered by six cylinder Chevrolet truck engines for power and after the engineers disarmed the huge explosive charge they carried the army troops used them as coastal water patrol boats. He slithery made excellent small runabouts and that his regiment got more use ou5 of them,than the Japanese ever did.

    The AI narration is terrible. Don't you listen to it before posting. The mispronunciations are constant. It makes two syllable words out of single syllable words (doom... ed). Do you have no pride of creation. Hire a human to do it or give a college student a minimum wage internship.

    My father was at Japan October 1945, something that bother him was the so called rapes. Some of the rapes were real but a bunch of them was telling their family they were raped when they suffered so much to provide for their family. My father told me a lot of japanese women thought about something a women could do to recieve in exchange for food. They saved their families by doing something questionable and later told their family they were raped. When you are starving you will use ever means to eat. The real honor or shame must be addressed

    As much as I've enjoyed this series, my patience with the wonky AI narration is running very thin. The inability to improve on the pronunciation of ranks and dates and measures of size and distance is ridiculous. Either AI isn't as capable of self-learning as we are led to believe, or the producers dgaf about cleaning it up. Either way, I find this increasingly difficult to overlook. Tighten the fuck up, people

    Please in the future when reference the correct grammar when mentioning aircraft. Example Several times in the previous chapters when a multiple aircraft of a specific type as a model “S” Example Yamamotos aircraft was intercepted by “P38S”! There’s no such thing as a P38S. It should read as P38’s Same as when referencing B17S. Plural P38’s or B17’s Sorry just sounds awkward and wrong. Overall I’ve enjoyed listening to these memoirs.

    He lost me at 18:44 where it is stated the MacArthur fled to Australia by submarine. It is well known by even non-historians that MacArthur escaped first by PT boat to Mindanao and then to Australia by B17. Such a basic well documented fact to be misrepresented places the rest of the lesser known events as presented to be highly in doubt.

    • @michaellust2030
      @michaellust2030 2 дні тому

      The story is told by a Japanese naval officer, necessarily from his point of view. The Japanese command likely thought MacArthur had been evacuated by submarine... that is how they would have done it. MacArthur was spirited away, by means the Japanese did not detect... they were very confident, at that moment in history, and probably not deeply concerned about precisely how that evacuation had been accomplished, whether by plane, boat or submarine. Any of these were obviously possible, and it was a done deal, anyway. It is clear that this man is misinformed in some respects. That is entirely to be expected.
