Thanks, been wanting to see these side by side. To me, NVG-30 is a great value. The Opsin is so close in price to Gen 3 analog that I’d probly just get a PVS-14 at that point.
I have dual NVG30s and they're able to keep up with gen 2 analog. The latency is not an issue and the sony starvis 2 sensors can process lights and darks nearly seamless as you can see in the video. I shoot with my NVG30s without a problem. These things are actually pretty legit ! Way way worth it.
Honestly, all things considered, I'd rather save quite a bit of money and not have to deal with an external proprietary battery pack or the extra weight. I've got 18650s up the wazzu to feed an NVG30.
Realistically you have to look at the low light performance - that sorts out all night vision capable devices, the OPSIN is a genuine starlight only device, the sensor in the opsin is used in the DoD IVAS program for good reason. Also note the OPSIN has the ROI function which is used to look through complex lighting environments, you couple that with EV adjustment to get an optimal image (i noticed you didn't use this function and its specifically designed to deal with the situation you filmed). If you spend time with the OPSIN you will work out, that its a good device and can see right out to 1200nm - no other mass market, non-mil, digital device can do this. This means you can use a 1050nm illuminator which can not be seen by conventional filmed/filmless G3 IIT. The reason the OPSIN has the battery pack and weight, is because its fully balanced on the helmet - if you weigh the battery pack and the OPSIN you will see they are nearly identical weights.
the 1050nm part is very interesting to me, being able to illuminate without conventional tubes seeing it seems like an extremely underrated part... i dont know much about this stuff but what little ive read that seems like a major point few talk about. id love to see a video comparing some pvs14 and opsin with that 1050+
@@alphawolfgang173 Analog will still be able to detect the source of the light unless filters are put in place. At that point, the flashlight is going to be very dim to Opsin. Plus, Photonis/NNVT NVT-7 tubes do see a bit into that spectrum as well. SiOnyx did release a 1050nm IR light, but I have not seen any performance videos of it. So I have no idea how it would actually perform.
@@DjAlonDevil This is not correct, only specific types of Gen2 - Gen 3 taps out at about 980nm. Current Photonis G4+ see out to 1064nm. The 1050nm performs like a modest torch but is effective.
Oh wow what a great comparison. I really don't see $1500.00 worth of difference between these two at all. At $2k you might as well try to find a used PVS-14 or go with thermal, otherwise the NVG-30 seems to be the way to go.
A used PVS-14 Gen2+ or Gen3 is a solid performer that's been tried and tested in combat by militaries around the world for decades with well understood and mastered technology behind them. The NVG30 is the only digital I would ever seriously consider because it has good performance to price (for digital), other than that my trusted Photonis 4G tube blows even the most expensive digital out the water. It's honestly a bit cheeky asking for analog PVS-14 prices for a digital unit of considerably worse performance.
If I may be so bold on this one (can't address the shipping side of things), but I am doing a torture test and field test of the MAWL C1 clone atm... It IS compatibale with touchpads. It has connection ports (one for laser, one for light). Hope that helps!
Can you do a comparison with Sionyx Aurora since there is none? I had the green one and was not pleased with the low light performance. I'm curious if the nvg30 is worth the money.
Will see about making that happen. Will need to find a good location for that. I'll let you know if I can and will probably post that on the GoodNiteGear channel - www.youtube.com/@GoodNiteGear
Thanks a lot for the review. i watched your comparison of the NVG30 with the Nightfox prowl and now this one, but I couldn't figure out at what distance you can make out an animal target with the IR out. Did you ever run such a test?
I actually reviewed the TNV10 pretty recently! ua-cam.com/video/pdt3Qea8qJU/v-deo.html Unfortunately the prowl is no longer in my possession but if you have any specific questions about how it stacks up to any of the night vision devices I've tested on the channel I can do my best to help!
For high light environment, set the setting to 90Hz, 2D noise off, color mode and lower the EV gain. For low light, set it to 30Hz, 2D noise on, monochrome and turn the EV gain up. NUC is conflicting, some tests show to be useful during low light and others don't. So you can play around with it. Same with ROI. Overall I like the NVG30, it's a good device for the money. SiOnyx should definitely improve the Opsin because it's a bit lacking. You should look into the DNV-9 project next.
Will be reaching out to Hoplite about the DNV9 soon! Had my eye on that for a while and a few other people mentioned that it would be good to check out!
Small question, do you know thebdifference between nvg 20 and 30? Amozon says the under 500$ version is unavailable but I also see nvg 20 being refered to as a nvg 30 both onnamozon and youtube
if you can get your hand on an ADNV-G14P,maybe you can compare it with the Opsin? Hype Militaria already made comparison with the NVG30. Apparently it can go head to head with a Gen 3 analog at 100fps
@@UrbanSurvivor Just FYI there are two models available. One is the ADNV-G14SE which is more of a budget version with lower specs but it's 1200$ on Alibaba. The other model is the ADNV-G14P-2024 which has better specs but is ~2200$ on Alibaba.

I think Sionyx is on to something, and they're really taking digital night vision to a new level; however, for $2000, I'd rather buy a refurbished PVS-14.
Hello, as I compare parallel images from both nvgs I really wonder if NGV30 is really with a real X1 magnification. At least in your footage. Could you confirm the "null" magnification ? Anyway thank you for this very detailled video.
I'm a noob to how this tech has progressed since I last used a PVS-14 in 2010... is it possible to do low cost, digital night vision with a thermal overlay?
There are not really any cheap options that I've seen with digital and thermal overlaid! I will keep my eye out though and as soon as something low cost becomes available I'll be sure to share it on the channel!
I wonder what would your opinion be on the sionyx aurora series like sionyx pro, sport , black and standard i know you can't buy all of these in one go so take your time and i will be patient.
can you run the nvg 30 with no battery in the slot but connected to a power bank via the usb-c outlet? that would reduce weight on the front of your face and move it to the rear of the helmet
Can you recommend a good high capacity 18650? Have the NVG 30, haven't really been able to get out and really test its capabilities quite yet, but would like some good strong secondary batteries. Plus, am considering setting up a helmet to accommodate a power pack that I can plug into the NVG 30 for longer duration use...thanks again...great video!
I know a few you should look for, EVE 35V's (3500mah cap with 10amp output), Samsung 35E's (same 3500mah cap with 10 amp output) , Panasonic NCR18650GA's (3450mah cap with 10amp output) As for where to buy them try googling those exact batteries and a few places with pop up (should be around 2-4$ per battery) for reference the stock battery is a 2600mah cell so you should get a pretty decent up tick in battery life. (be wary of anything higher than 3500mah as far as i can tell nothing like that exists from any of the major reputable battery makers)

The external battery is nice for helmet use because it acts as the counter weight making it more comfortable
@@NoodDoodAirsoft I suggest you get a pouch or carry case for those batteries. It's not very healthy to carry them up your wazzu.
wow, im impressed. the opsin may do better detail, but i like the fact that the nvg30 doesnt get washed out by front or side facing lighting.
You can change the EV on the opsin to get a better exposure. You can overexpose the highlights to gain more light in the dark.
I just got my CQ35L the day before yesterday and am enjoying it☺
