Hi I own one film camera its the mighty Nikon F3 I purchased it at my local dealer it was his grandfathers I was so lucky to buy it. Because his granddad at the time F3 came out on the market he bought two better be sure but realized this camera dont really brake 😂😂😂 So I bought his second one for 300 bucks with 50 mm lens. And with 2 years of warranty it has a total count of film used of 3 rolls. He even sent into a checkup at Nikon, He saidt it has to get some oil and cleaned the mirror. And ready to go. I did buy two other lens for it. a 24 mm F/2.8 AI and the 50 mm F/1.8 pancake close focus. I am very very happy to own this camera.
@@theoldcameraguy Hi yes also I choose the Nikon instead leica or other a medium format camera. Is because price and convenience ratio as I call it. Well A Nikon is hmm post full frame 1.5 times bigger than a normal 35 mm camera where lets say leica you need to use a 35 mm lens and its on a leica then a 50 mm. So bigger format but a smaller than medium format or cheaper also to develop or buy. More shots and cheaper more compact. Doesn’t mean its perfect for everyone. But for me its a bullseye.
There are about six or seven thrift stores in my local area that a couple of years ago you could find some pretty cool stuff in any of them. Now you are lucky to find anything more than something plastic and busted.
Hi Dave Those thrift stores are huge compared to the little charity shops we have here in the UK Glad you picked up the kiddies camera, look forward to seeing you use that All the best Tim 😊👍
Thanks Tim - there’s one in Dayton Ohio that’s even bigger than the ones I’ve shown here. I am looking forward to trying out that kids camera just to see how lo-fi it really is.
Mighty slim pickins; the days of miracle finds are over. But your 50 cent special will turn heads on your next photowalk. Love the color and styling. :-)
@@theoldcameraguy Yes, prices for better quality vintage film cameras have nowhere to go but up. In Bangkok, there is an old shopping mall in Chinatown where one floor is devoted to small mom-n-pop stalls with a wide assortment of cameras, film and gear. Prices are reasonable but rising overall in the past few years.
I just came here after watching a recent Ted Forbes video. I both commented, and complemented, Ted on his consistent positivity and video quality. Your videos deserve similar praise and recognition. You make great videos! Also, Kodak carousel slide tray for 4.99? That is a deal! I love my Kodak slide projector! Huge thumbs up!
So far my best finds have been a Olympus N MJU for a couple bucks, a prestine Olympus epic Zoom 80 for five and a Nikon FG with the good version of the pancake 50 1.8 for 20.
Nice! I’ve picked up a few Epics/Mju (zooms and primes) through the years. It’s been several years since I picked up anything really stellar at the thrifts.
Our Salvation Army store is best in our area... or was until they hired a new manager. Those $1.99 cameras you found are now $19.99 here. 🙄 BUT, a year ago I did get a Westcott Apollo soft box for $3 there! 🎰 My best luck lately has been estate sales. I like the new brick background.
thrift stores are so greedy for selling donated items for so much… i’ve been seeing some old digital cameras in thrift stores lately for $200!! not sure what’s going on, maybe it’s people buying and reselling but it’s hard now to find anything worth buying!
Hello from Calgary, Canada! I've been visiting the local Thrift Stores for maybe 20 years now and I have a decent camera collection thanks to them. I generally visit 3 or so per day (I don't go out every day anymore) and I have to say that they generally have better selection here, compared to the cameras you found... however, there are lots of resellers now, so things have changed (too much competition nowadays). Last camera I found was a pristine Zenit 12 XP for Cad $25. (maybe a tiny bit expensive, but it was in excellent condition) Great video though and I think it's time for me to go treasure hunting!
The charity shops as our thrift stores are known over here rarely seem to have cameras in, most of the larger organisation like the British Heart Foundation list all their cameras on ebay so maximising their income from each item. The last store seemed to have the best finds and honest prices. I'm looking forward to seeing you put your new purchase to work in another video.
Thanks Andrew - Online auctions are used by more and more charities and thrifts over here lately too. I’ve gotten some good stuff at that last thrift before - it’s one of my favorites.

Lots of interesting stuff. There's not too many cameras I won't buy for one or two bucks even if they just sit on a shelf. I've been to a few of these places you went to and I bought a Canon AE-1, about spotless for $4.99 at Goodwill on North High St. a year or so ago.

My kids had that children's digital camera with the two large grips on the sides. It was so annoying to use, and even worse to change batteries, which you had to do often! Also, I hate how Vivitar puts so much text on the front, so prominently. It ruins the whole aesthetic.
