I went through all of Bob Hoskins’ end scene facial expressions when I heard how many points you awarded it. Brilliant analysis once again! I love the film and that ending is excellent.
I vividly remember catching the opening credits/music as a youngster, but didn't watch the film itself. That alone was enough to make me buy it on dvd in my teens... and thank God I did. Best British gangster film of all time. Guy Ritchie may be considered the British Tarantino, but clearly the dialogue in this was HUGE inspiration.
"Guy Ritchie may be considered the British Tarantino" Only by Guy Ritchie surely? Guy Ritchie, director of shit *cough* sorry, "mediocre and forgetable movies". Absolutelt NO comparison between the two.
@@AllTheRightMovies I thought that was 28 too many..... 😜😜😜😜Haha just joking,I loved your review,to the point, funny and insightful with great production values. You deserve a lot lot better
I don't know when/if I would have come across TLGF had it not been for you guys. Watched it a few months ago and loved it. What's so brilliant about Hoskins's performance is that despite his being a mobster I still want him to realize his dream and root for him. Comes down to the writing, too. 👍👍
I always wondered if the writer or director of Michael Clayton knew the Long Good Friday, as it ends the same way. Camera just on George Clooney's face for minute after minute, as Clooney shifts through stages of emotion.
This is class production, great review of one of my favourite films. The first time I realized Razors has been bumped off in the car with Victoria at the end!
Amazing film and great analysis guys. Agree with all of what you said. I suggest Sexy Beast as another top (and often overlooked) British gangster film. Any chance of a review of it in the future?
One of my all time favorite movies, and, due to another review, I just noticed in the final scene of Victoria, Razors is in the front passenger seat....with a bullet hole in his head. I have had it on VHS for a long time, and it goes by too quick to see unless you have it on DVD, or here on Y.T. . Great review guys, Bravo!
Good review enjoyed that. To add to the before they were famous list the other henchman who appears with Pierce Brosnan at the pool and at the end supposedly driving the car (rear view mirror shot) is Daragh O' Malley
Probably the best and most accurate British gangster film made. It’s based on a true takeover of London crime by the I.R.A. - which is an interesting and not so well documented part of history. Bob Hoskin’s played an excellent role. The ending was excellent - always annoyed me people went on about a sequel!
@@TheUNKLEPaulTHX What I.R.A. members were at a film screening during the war days? Not sure about that. But, London's underworld and also Manchester, Liverpool etc. was taken over fairly easily by the I.R.A. Even up until the present day the remnants of seeded crime families exist.
Brilliant. Enjoyed all of that. One of my favorite movies. The only thing missing for me is comment on the score especially in view of Francis Monkmans recent passing. You should consider a separate video just on the score, one of my all time favorites.
Sneak Peak Pierce Brosnan One Of His First Roles.Suprised Sad That He Doesn't Want To Play More Irish Roles Less Violently More Family Oriented Life Of A Complicated Man.

Glad you liked it Will, cheers 👍
Even more so when you consider that this was the very first scene shot of the whole film....
I saw it at the Tyneside cinema when it was released. Hoskins’s finest hour. Great British filmmaking and of its time.
Wow, great memory that 👍
Way, way, way ahead of its time and of its time at the same time.
Lightning in a bottle this film

Yeah he definitely took inspiration from the ending when he filmed that scene in the gentlemen also
Talking about Bob Hoskins..."Mona Lisa"; another film I really liked.
29 views on UA-cam??????!!!!! Oh man you all deserve so so so much more,This is an ace review of an ace film .Well done lads
Thanks a lot! 👍

Cheers Rich, Sexy Beast isn't planned in for the near future but at some point is a possibility.

Derek Thompson, who played Charlie, ironically also played the IRA assassin in Harry's Game a couple of years later.
Guy Richie certainly saw it and in 2005 did his own dumbed down, public schoolboy gangster loving version of it.

Thanks a lot, appreciate that 👍
So good, this! "COLIN'S BEEN STABBED!!!"
As I was saying before phone went stupid Daragh O' Malley who went on to play Sgt. Harper alongside Sean Bean in the Sharpe films.

'Get Razors to book a table...'
'Izz dat de Savoy??'

Seen all the movies mentioned, and thought The Hit was excellent. IDK, but Sexy Beast should be in that list, eh? However, I’m not a Brit.
Great review lads! Love this movie.
No mention of Dexter Fletcher's early appearance? 😉
