I have Asperger's autism I was bullied horribly all the way through from grade to high school. I wish I would have discovered GJJ long ago. Now that I have training, ppl still do harrass me constantly, but once they realize i know jiu jitsu they become frightened. Its tough Idk why ppl feel the need to be so cruel to others its sickening. I'm glad the Gracies address such an important issue positively.

Last weekend, a 14 year old boy (diagnosed with the asperge syndrome, which I didn't know at the time) through a slab through my window. I ran after him and caught him. My friend who was there when it happened, called the police and I held the boy down till the police arrived. I didn't hurt him cause he was so scared, I guinually (how you spell that, I'm Dutch) felt sorry for the poor kid, even though he broke my window and scared the crap out of me. The next day his father came to my house to apologize to my and explained to me that his son was spiraling out of control ever since he lost his hand in a firework accident two years ago and asked me if I was willing to drop the charges that I put against him. I am willing to do that and I also really want the best for this kid. He was adopted and because all the trouble he is causing, his parents are thinking about placing him out of the house. They can't handle him anymore even though they love him very much. I'm thinking about jiu jitsu myself for me for a long time. Maybe I'll take him with me and try to help him this way. I think it might be good for him. What do you guys think of this? Should I do it? I'm afraid it might teach him the "wrong" things and make it worse, although, with the right teacher it might help him...

+11sponstom I think getting him to start jiu-jitsu sounds awesome. I think you should go to the school and see if you feel like the instructor(s) are trustworthy and good teachers. If you've gone four or five times and you like them, you should take him there.

It really depends on the teacher, as mentioned. Jiujitsu taught badly is worse than no jiujitsu at all.

As someone who received a similar diagnosis at that age I'm really glad to see what this has done for Seth : )

People who have and do nothing with themselves will always have something negative to say about anyone who does, or anyone that tries to make a difference. I didnt have bullyproof or anything like this as a child, but luckily my father studied Tang Soo Do and taught me how to defend myself, and it did keep me out of fights and helped cause i was a mixed black/white kid who grew up in the south, so bullying was inevitable. The Gracies are doing something positive and if it helps anyone at all, then it is a good thing.

Jiu-Jitsu works! This video tells it y’all, if ur able to get ur child into BJJ do it. I caught 4 of my sons peers getting ready to jump him one day. My son was completely oblivious to what was going on. The next day we signed him up and it has been life changing. We never did the Gracie Bullyproof but I did fly him out there for a day and let him train in Torrance. We currently train at a local place in our home town and Ive been recording our family’s progress.

11sponstom: You have a good heart, and I admire you for trying to help this little buy.
Every kid in the autism spectrum is different so what works for one, may not work with another. If you find a jiu jitsu teacher with a "heart" like yours, I really think it is worth a try. Jiu Jitsu it is a "sport fight" but it is supposed to actually keep you out of fighting, by empowering you to fell confident and strong. I think many kids with special needs could benefit from it since they are easy targets for bulling and they may fell "out of place" and low self steam since they are different. Good Luck :)

Great Video! When I was a kid my dad taught me a style of Karate called "Tang Soo Do" now called "Soo Bahk Do" but he didn't teach me to throw punches or kicks, only how to block punches and kicks. I think this bullyproof DVD is a great Idea on how to teach your kids self defense. I wish I knew Gracie starting out when I was young. Your kid may become the youngest American to achieve a black belt. THUMBS UP!

Good video, although I don’t think one can lose an autism diagnosis as it’s a different type of brain compared to a non autistic.

@piratebri its a great idea because you learn respect, loyalty, and more. but there are people who use their karate or jiu jitsu to hurt others

If schools replaced Gym class with Gracie Bullyproof Class, there would be no more bullying in schools.

That's why you don't take shit from them. I've let myself get punked by people I could turn inside out and let them. What are they going to do? Kick my ass? Stand up for what is right and don't let others take advantage of people.
Hope that kid continues to grow. Awesome story.

I support this... however I have concerns. Autistic kids have issues with controlling them selves especially emotionally and once they reach adult hood they could do posable harm. On top of that you are teaching them the means to cause harm to others even if that was not the goal. Like I said I have concerns. What happens If an adult with Autistic needs snaps and uses jiu-jitsu to harm someone in a fit of rage?

@SniperJDM If he can do it by age 19 he will officially be the youngest American. BJ Penn got his at 20. The dad's right though BJJ is totally life-changing, I have a disability too, cerebral palsy. It's like therapy for me w/o BJJ i'd probably be confined to my bed by now. Thanks guys

I have Asperger's, was bullied when I was younger, but I had a kickboxing backround, and being able to focus on one thing made me realized I wish I would have never started BJJ. After 9 months I couldn't stand my parent's money going to waste anymore. If he comes up against a kid stronger than him, and he sits in guard, which is taught, he's going to get injured. I took Relson Gracie JJ, was supposed to be for self defense, but I didn't know grappling competitions were a real fight.
