    So, I know this is older, and the chance of an answer is minimal, but bro - what are those LIGHTS on the back of the shelves? They're amazing.

    • @FryMinis
      @FryMinis  3 роки тому

      Hey Miri! Thanks for watching! They are just random RGB LED strips from Amazon that I ran on the back of the shelf. The way the wall and the "boxes" worked out, it made a really cool effect. I wasn't able to maintain it with the new setup (the bookshelf is free-standing with black cloth behind it) unfortunately. Here is an affiliate link for the particular strip but any would work: amzn.to/3wXSfyb

      @@FryMinis oh sorry one more question while I have your attention, I can get the storage places for the minis, there's a ikea here in Houston, but is there a good discount site or something you use to buy your minis. I tried to see if you had a video on that but didn't find one. Thanks

    • @FryMinis
      @FryMinis  3 роки тому +1

      @@TallonMartin86 The paper minis are awesome. Really great in two particular situations. 1) 1000X cheaper than traditional minis. 2) Way easier to travel - awesome if you're playing at a game store or convention. Good luck with your collection! Take a look at Reaper Bones kickstarters to get growing.. They have a hefty upfront cost but the price per mini is about as cheap as you can get.

    • @FryMinis
      @FryMinis  3 роки тому +1

      @@TallonMartin86 Hah! I think I preemptively got you covered there. Painting your own minis will always be cheaper than buying pre-painted minis. I'd recommend you take a look at Blandco. He's a UA-camr that covers all the great ways to get minis for dirt cheap - ebay, thrift stores and the like. If you're looking to buy blind boxes (the boxes I open with random contents) of minis, think about how many you'll want to buy to maximize the cost per box. Buy a case (1 case = 4 bricks) is going to be cheaper than buying 4 standalone bricks (1 brick = 8 boxes) and a brick will be cheaper than 8 individual boxes. I generally buy one to two bricks per set. Also, if you need specifics minis, take a look at Miniature Market for good prices on singles - sort by price and you'll find some great options to build up.

    • @FryMinis
      @FryMinis  3 роки тому

      Great point! No dust problems with the labeled shelves. I think the gap is small enough that it'll be a very long time before I'd need to worry. The big exposed minis such as the dragons and giants do have a little dust accumulation problem but a little can of air every other week or so really helps.

    I am curious as to the size of our minis. I see so many people print minis and splay minis and they all look so huge. You can see so much detail, but it could be the camera. I just got in to DnD and in to 3d printing I have printed maybe 50 minis mostly in the medium/large realm they have 1" bases (hero forge). But they look so small in person. Howdy, John! Welcome aboard! A medium mini's base should be 1", a large should be 2", a huge should be 3" and gargantuan or bigger should be at least 4" in diameter. There are minor variations (25mm scale vs 28mm scale vs 32mm scale) but in that ball park.

    This is great, but I don't have as many minis, OR the shelving - I'm thinking of categorising and labeling the miniatures themselves, just 2 characters underneath each mini, a letter and a number. then I'll have a chart with all the categories so when I pick up a mini and I'm not sure what it is I can look at the chart, find it's lable and there will be a description of what the mini is on the chart. I'm thinking C = characters, D = Dragons, G=Giants, H = humanoid monsters, M = other monsters... It needs to be as simple as possible, there really isin't room for more than 2 characters on the base plates.
