  • How to store your miniatures! I am comparing Gamesworkshop, KR multicase and a few other ways to transport your toys. This could work for wargaming, train building or any other type of model. Can you build them yourself? You sure can! Take a look.

    I am an old school gamer and we used to carry around our figures in metal tool boxes using magnetic tape on the bottom of the figures to hold them in place. Worked great but of course they were metal figures so the weight was amazing! But the new foam boxes are cool but expensive and only good for single figures . I have now moved on to clip boxes as they stack so well . By the way you can get magnetic tape which can be cut to fit the bottom of even thin bases

      Nice. I hadn't thought of sticking the tape to the miniatures, only to the bottom of boxes. Good thinking! :)

    Great little dose of knowledge! I made magnetic ones like you have. After hunting and gathering of supplies it took me 20mins to make 4 box’s! So easy. And they stack properly so don’t slide off of each other when carrying! Keep it up

    As for the #2-#3 styles, I found one that had a hard semi-flexible plastic panel under each storage layer, with cloth straps sticking up. So you can pick up the layer by the straps.

    Nice video and very good point about protecting our expensive models. I think protecting the hours of work on painting them is even more important. Using boxfiles lined with self adhesive steel paper and having the models magnetized has worked for me for over 20 years. They don't work for large models but they will take infantry, cavalry and smaller tanks. To avoid the problems with sticking magnets to flat bottomed bases try using self-adhesive magnabase on the bases which gives a good overall hold.

      Yes! Now take a dose of storage boxes, twice a day, until the itching goes away.

    I think it would have also been good to talk about the new GW foam they have been putting into their cases. I am talking about the zig-zag pattern. What do you think about these? Personally, I hate them and find that once you have troops lined up in a few of the zig-zag columns they rub up against each other and also prevent you from using the entirety of the foam due to the bulging that occurs. What do you think?

    • @BroadswordWargaming
      @BroadswordWargaming  5 років тому +3

      Ah yes, a good (and valid) point. I hate zig zag foam.. the models never stay where they're meant too and they just roll around, gleefully smashing each other up.

      I agree that the zig zagging foam isn't the greatest for the majority of infantry models. However, it really shines when you've got large and awkwardly shaped models. Ever tried transporting multiple imperial knights in one of the old, large GW cases? (the larger version of the GW box that was shown in this video, with the same infantry slots cut out of the foam) Even broken up into magnetised sub assemblies, you still wind up with a huge amount of wasted space.
      Let us not even speak of the never-ending struggle that is trying to transport the AoS Nagash model.

      @@snejjames6499 Yeah, I hear you. We have all suffered for too long at the hands of foam things! There is no 'right way' to store models I guess. I do think the games companies do it on purpose ha. B*stards!

    I absolutely love the magnetic tray idea in the storage boxes and its one I haven’t seen before and the new g.w cases are to bulky and the foam cut outs are naff for tanks and any models that have banners or weapons that point up , look forward to the next video sir

  • @rklammer

    I think I'll always prefer foam to magnetics. Less to no prep needed for storing your models, the price isn't really much cheaper, and in fact it is more for infantry heavy armies as to store and transport any of your models you need to make sure every model is magnetised. And I can't say I trust the magnets to always keep your models in place, let alone the minimal transport handles. Atelast all the foam cases have handles or straps or are back packs. Then there is the weight of all those magnets and the metal sheet, You just end up carrying more weight, with heavier models and no easy way to move the boxes around.
    I only really see magnetics as a novelty storage idea, but not really that useful for frequent transport.

    I started moving my minis from foam to magnetic boxes and I agree it is a much better option. I also wish I've started that way from the beginning, it would have saved me a lot of money.
    Have you tried the magnetic sheets?

    • @BroadswordWargaming
      @BroadswordWargaming  4 роки тому +3

      I haven't yet, but I think I will. I will probably a buy a few sets off amazon and use then I'm the underside of my bases, rather than direct magents. A good thing about the metal sheets is, they're really hard wearing, I've had these boxes for years now! 😀

    I’ve had GW, K & R & battle foam. I found that that the K & R foam very flimsy if carrying heavier models of metal & resin (I had my Warmachine in them).
    GW foam I found was only good for infantry models, but some GW minis like the old wood elf wardancers or spell singer models didn’t fit let alone stuff like terminators or bigger models.
    Battle foam cases I can recommend whole heartedly (having 7 full of Flames of War armies) & 1 for bigger models. Not only that they have foams for different systems & have vehicle trays. Down side is price.
    Now that I moved to the US & I have started collecting again I will go the magnetising route.

    Plastic minis.
    I use Evolution tackle box 3600. Each slot can hold multiple (reap/wiz) plastic minis. Just use foam on bottom and glue foam on top (use a sharpie and draw the square size right on top of case, cut foam and glue to Case top on the inside. When you close the box, foam holds the minis in place. Under 10$ per box with foam.
