  • Royal Blood recently landed themselves in hot water after taking their frustrations out on the crowd at Radio One's Big Weekend in Dundee.
Did they go too far? This is just my view of the whole situation, but what do you think?

Honestly, it’s more embarrassing that people are turning on them like they didn’t listen to them for the last few years.

Whether they had the right crowd for them or not is Irrelevant. The crowd paid to see them to perform not the other way round. The crowd has no obligation to clap or sing if they didn't want to

Definitely a mismatch for the lineup and especially as a late addition. Majority mainstream pop acts and even the rock based acts are more mainstream than Royal Blood. Being sandwiched between two big pop acts (one being the headliner) isn’t ideal either. Considering it was their 3rd consecutive day performing including travel from Plymouth to Dundee I’d imagine they’d be pretty exhausted so understandable Mike would be a bit irritable. Not to mention having just played two shows where they have more of a fanbase then ending it at a pop festival where not as many fans would be there would be a bit of a downer.

I was at that gig and do like their music. While you are right, they didn’t fit with the rest of the acts, the crowds reaction wasn’t actually that bad for them, giving it was a pop event.
However they did sound absolutely terrible that day!
I also wonder if that was also why Twin Atlantic supported Muse at Glasgow instead.

I love royal bloods i am sad i didn't was able to see them in Milan. Tbh i have been to concerts where bands i never heard about were opening others and usually my friends and i always make a lot of noise for them at the entrance on stage. All the time i ended up loving them tho haha

To me it felt like was a little irritated and tried to make what ended up as a sour joke which he kept trying to make funny and didn't manage it leading to him getting more and more frustrated and ending with a middle finger but I'm no psychologist so I don't know
I don't think they deserve to get destroyed by twitter though twitter will do that to anyone for no reason, as many have said mike deserves to be held accountable, that's how we grow and improve
    Great video 👍

It was standard stage banter, if you were offended by that don't go to a punk show.

Saw them live once because At the Drive In supported them in the UK - and they already acted a bit cocky and arrogant back in 2017... Didn't mind some of their songs - but overall I never rated them very highly... They probably realised that their career peak is long gone and got frustrated

If you can’t win over an audience regardless of genre, then you are a terrible act. No sympathy for them. If Knocked Loose can win over Coachella and have one of the greatest and most viral performances of the whole festival, than this should have been a walk in the park for Royal Blood.

What are you even talking about. Genre is genre for a reason. I don't care how nice you are if you start playing a bunch of mumble rap when you come on stage I'm not gonna have a good time. If a band was full of charismatic chill cool dudes and then they started blasting ClownCore at a Taylor Swift concert they're not getting any positive feedback from the crowd. Idk what happened with Knocked Loose but that's an exception not the norm. When you go watch a rated R slasher at the cinema do you get a trailer for the new Paw Patrol movie? No. If you listen to a rock station are you gonna get ads for the newest Drake tour? No. It's a long standing issue for opening acts to suffer and try to hype a crowd that doesn't know about nor care for them. Mike and Ben were exhausted and grumpy and they just weren't having it that day. It's that simple.

@@ElliottR0seyes what you're saying is true to a point but if you know how to work a crowd get them into it trust me you can get people to love you if they've never heard you before but I'm sure these people have Royal Blood have been around they had a number one album but attitude like that if it's that dry not everybody gets it so you got to be careful how you talk to the crowd
