I remember I had to resort to watching this video when I was 14 😂😂 My dad had just bought a nice big gold wing. Next day, he goes to work, and so I jumped on it because I’d never sat on a bike that big before I tipped it over, and couldn’t figure out how to get it back up… Thanks to this video, my dad never found out, and i was spared an ass whoopin. 😂
You gotta love the idiot rookie rider calling out “grab the brake” when the instructor is on the left side of the bike. I practice this technique, and always reach down with my hand and put it in gear first before trying to bring her back upright.
Great stuff. I'm 6'1" and 270 lbs and have been able to use the grab bar and hold the handlebar and do it that way. However, I'm getting older and using my legs rather than my back is a great technique. Thanks for posting.
Never EVER use your back, it'll give an injury or a very nasty crack. Even in gym to do deadlifts, using the back is a no-no. In proper deadlift form, there's next to none force on spine and back. The real power comes from hips, core and legs.
I keep a "Tie wrap" around my Fluid reservoir, then I wrap it around the end of the brake lever & the handle bar holding the front brake on, excellent Emergency brake.
To prevent the bike from rolling, If its not in gear, you can also turn the key to on...then push the REVERSE button. This will lock the wheel & the bike will not roll.
The first thing you do is put the bike in gear that way it doesn't roll and ensure that you kickstand or is down or you are in a position to put it down when on the left side of the bike when it falls to the opposite side put the kick stand down first and back in gear so it doesn't roll
grab your brake!... he ignored you the first time, and made a fool of you the second. Note to students... if the instructor is not doing it,... aah never mind, ask away its entertaining
What I’m saying is that you dont need to grab the brake to use this method. And for the record... I have picked up a goldwing 3 times. (Ask me why I watched this video in the first place) lol. Have a good day
@@philspaces7213 Ahh.. sounded like you were doggin' Don. These 800# bikes can't be uprighted with one hand. And the folks saying 'put it in gear' seems to not realize where that stubby little shifter is, and what it takes to move it. The 'reverse switch' is always a good option for 'parking brake' in such an emergency. Thanks for clarification.
Safer to drop her to the right ....then at least you can put the kick stand out before lifting! But how many guys ride their GW lone wolf? Even if all you have is the old lady? She can help spot at least!
LOL ....damn Gold Wings are so wide they almost don't look down when they ARE down! I always wanted one but my wife has a cyborg spine after being hit by a drunk driver so things like motorcycling are out of the question (big ol stainless fixture holds her head to her spine these days).....SO I mean what is the point of a GoldWing one up? .....seems to me the whole point of the beast IS two up long distance touring....no? I mean I could look for a girl friend but my wife is death with her pistol (man is she a good shot!)....So Gold Wings for me are just one more thing I might do in some alternate reality than this un!
This technique only works if you have perfect traction and a flat surface under your feet. There are better techniques, that still allow you to use your legs.
HOW does grabbing your brake going to help the guy twice has said grab your brake ,,, you can grab your brake 50 times it will do nothing , you need to pull on your front brake keep it pulled in and then whilst keeping it on lift the bike !!!! it will do nothing just keep "grabbing your brake "
I DON'T NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PICK UP MY BIKE , I RIDE A HARLEY-DAVIDSON AND HARLEY RIDERS DON'T DROP THEIR BIKES , + I'D NEVER EVER EVEN GET ON A GOLDFARB RICE BURNER , HENCE I DON'T NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PICK UP A FALLEN BIKE !!!!
fascinating that there are so many videos on picking up dropped Goldwing's. Kinda tells you something about the high and unstable center of gravity of this line of bike. Great road bike, the worst low speed, most unstable bike ever made. You don't see dozens, or maybe hundreds of videos on how to right other bikes. Just Goldwings. Says something about the engineering. I own one, and have for years run a shop that does auto and motorcycle mechanical, restoration and service.
The problem with the goldwing is that it can weigh over 400kg, so it's the final boss of bikes to pick up. And unlike the rune there is a considerable amount on the road.
It says something about the weight and size, not about the handling. Look for youtube videos of people turning very tight figure eights and bends with them.
There is so many videos because there are soooooo many GW's out there. They are very well balanced but yes, they are very heavy.(900 lbs) At slow or no speed you have to maintain the balance so there is some skill needed to not drop it.. The crash bars protect it very well but you need to know the technique to lift it. A 90 lb woman can lift it if done correctly. Yes, I do own one.
Practice first on something smaller and lighter--like an Abrams tank.

Exactly . One simple move makes all the difference
Tie one of your glove to the front brake, thank me later

Sounds like a 'Parking Brake'..
@@steven.h0629sounds like the same thing
"Yeah, this is the way I always park it." LOL
At least most won't bother trying to steal it.
@@michaelolson419 Easier to use the handle bar lock turned to one side. Lots easier. duh.

Or just put her into gear....no?
Great idea 👍

Beautiful bike 🏍 ❤
is the engine or paint not dinged up? That yellow/chrome Goldwing is great looking
Grabbing brake is fine --when lifting from the right. From the left, put it in gear.
Great job Dan !!!
It helps to put it in gear or in reverse. “Great video.”
Put it in gear first, then it will not roll
You'd think a "professional" would know that huh?
Yes,, before it falls over, make sure you put it in gear.😏
@@Washadamoak No dear... after it falls over. DUH!
@@Washadamoak I leave my car in gear when I park it. Why not do so with a bike?
Seems ok on flat ground. Some hill seems terrifying though.
Put it in gear, and it won't roll.
@@TheGamersRace it may fall on the other side. Scary.

Says the guy that never lifted a Gold Wing.. it requires two arms Phil.. and as the demonstrator says, there's no brake on the left side.

I was so worried about dropping my Goldwing. But after I dropped it, I never worried about it again. It was a great learning experience.

next time I drop my Goldwing I will drop it on the right side like you said.

Do you have a real good 'kidney'/'lift belt???
What kind of car tire do you have?
Other solution to pick up your bike is to have a bike that weigh less than a dead horse
nice
Grab the brake? pay attention How about put in first ?
Shiittt will buff out !
I imagine first few times you will flip it straight over
Does the GW not have a parking brake?
The old manual versions no.
Gang reinmachen, dann rollt auch nix weg.
Mulțumesc
you carry a rug with you and tie the front brake !!!

Dad did that and it cracked the valve cover… $200 part later…dont do that
900 lbs!
First thing you do is put is in reverse so it doesn't roll.
hahaha i like this guy
Put it in gear then it won't move on you

Put the damn thing in first gear before you pick it up!
To turn on the 1st gear? No, it's too easy.

Perfect example as to why you always leave your bike in gear
U don't pick up dropped goldwings, u burn or salvage them
Put it in gear

I've seen more gl s dropped than than all others combined.just a boat on 2 wheels. High priced boat at that.

Goldwing’s were made in Marysville Ohio from 1980 to 2010
Where are Harley’s parts from? Italy; China; Mexico ; Taiwan and JAPAN!
I bet your harley spends more time at the shop than my 100k mile goldwing
Trading my Harley for a wing this fall.
