Every time I watch these videos I get flashbacks of my obsession with steam trains when I was 6.
Wow, what a amazing show! Id love to see some Great Northern railroad footage if you can get your hands on it because its extremely rare and although it was a massive class 1, footage is almost nonexistent.
Thanks for sharing some footage of my hometown of Winston-Salem! I’ve kind of felt like the city's status as a railroad hub back in the day has gone ignored by some, so it’s great to see steam action from back in the day there! The Southbound especially had some interesting equipment.
One of my beautiful childhood memories....
Very nice! I met Don a few times and he was -real nice guy.
Nice video! It's nice to see some familiar territory with the WSSB (Winston-Salem is my hometown, and where I grew up or all but two of the years of my life so far) though I'm sad that there was no footage of their ex-N&W 4-8-0s. As far as I know, 611 operated on the WSSB on occasion in the 50s when it wasn't hauling the named trains, great video!
About the trestle, it actually still exists, although hidden by many trees now. There's a path that leads from Old Salem to Salem Lake, I passed under the bridge many times. It's still used by NS to this day, ironically, the WSSB still exists as well, though under joint ownership of N&W and ACL's successors: NS and CSX.
El tren es sinónimo de "nostalgia".
Like The Alamo The Defenders Had Fallen IN A Chapter Written IN Glory
Do you know of any archives of films of Original Norfolk Southern? Just wondering have a good day.
Had no idea they made there Mountain loco's look like J's
Whats the piano music used in the beginning?
I didn't know that Norfolk & Western had 2-8-2 Mikados
This is why in october sky 4501 was inspired by those locomotives
N&W never had 2-8-2 Mikados but the half owned WSSB did and were maintained by N&W.
Nice to see some footage of Winston-Salem, the Winston-Salem District (Punkin Vine) wasn't documented no where near as much as the other two thirds of the Shenandoah Division, a lot of people don't know that it was part of the Shenandoah Division.
