Biggest Coal Train Ever! 944 Axles! DPUs Mid Train & DPU At End! Train Follows Giant Coal Train!

- Heaviest, Longest Coal Train I Ever Filmed! 944 Axles! Train Follows Train! Coal Train With DPU In Middle Of Train & DPU At End Of Train. 2 Trains In A Row, Then A Train Goes Over The Gigantic Railroad Bridge Over Ohio River! These 3 trains are in Kenova, West Virginia on the CSX main line and Norfolk Southern main line that goes over the CSX. Have you ever seen a coal train this long? I came here looking for coal trains. This is the best one I have ever filmed. It was pure luck to have the manifest train following it on the adjacent track. We see the 2 CSX trains and then a Norfolk Southern double stack intermodal train goes over these tracks on the huge bridge that goes from South Point, Ohio to Kenova, West Virginia. Look how big that bridge is! I went here with 1960gambit. He drove and I rode. Made it easy for me for sure. He filmed the same trains for his channel. Check out his channel and subscribe. Best frequencies are 161.250 for Norfolk Southern and 160.230 for CSX. How many tons do you think the coal train had? Leave a comment below. This video took me quite a bit of time to make. The first time I downloaded it, for some reason, it came out very poor and was unwatchable. I downloaded a second time and it didn't help. I had to completely reload every clip and make the video a second time from scratch. That does happen sometimes. That's why some days I don't post videos. Filming in 4K really is a challenge when you make videos longer than ten minutes. I can only make one video a day but I want the best quality. Anyway, once I get the computer problems solved I am going to get a drone. I also have some other ideas for videos. If you have an idea, please leave a comment below. I will be going to a bunch of states this summer.
This video was filmed April 22, 2022AD
Don't forget about Chessie and Norfie at the end of the video and please leave a comment!
Thanks for watching! If you have time, please watch another video of mine to help keep my channel going. Every view helps support my channel. Viewing time helps pay for gas, motels, rental cars etc. I have a list of places that I plan on filming so watch another video of mine if you have the time.

That coal train was so long the last cars had to wait for the miner's to dig out that vein from the mine. Excellent timing and location with the general freight so close behind then NS tried to replicate the length with the stack train. Best part is you didn't get the "dust off" from the coal fines like that swirlee several weeks ago.
At 52 feet long each, does that calculate to over 4 miles! Wow, that IS a long train. I think Austrailia is the only place with longer trains!
I love that spot! Two rail lines both carrying plenty of traffic. A massive trestle across the valley and a huge through girder bridge over the river. Civil engineering at its best. With enormous trains on both lines. That has to be one of my favourite places. The big coal haul must rate as one of your best ever videos with the second train on the adjacent track making it more than just spectacular. We'll done J. T. that just worked out fine!
It was my first impression. How majestic
Three awesome catches in a row! Two CSX trains back to back, and a Norfolk & Southern double stack train. That first coal train had to have been the longest train I have seen in a long time. It was also cool how the other manifest train was following behind the coal train on the adjacent tracks. One of your best catches yet!
A whole trainload of fossilized sunshine! Thank you!
You were very lucky to get two trains. Wow. And I just love that bridge. I have never seen a bridge as long as that one.. That first train would have covered maybe 3 states. Have a nice Day 😊
That coal train was long. My sons and I watch you every day before they go to school but this morning I watched alone. My youngest son is getting surgery today and I’m sitting waiting for him to get out. My other son is 4 1/2 and he called me from his Nana’s phone upset. He told me he missed the Trains with JT. Also we were wondering what happened to you when you did not posted. Then in your other video you told that you lost power. Keep up the good work. My sons and I enjoy your videos. Now I’m going back to praying for my son.
I hope your son is well
After the surgery
Great Job Jaw Tooth !!!
32,200 tons of coal on 230 cars 😎
The ''work'' you do for your fans is amazing 🥳
That coal train was 3 miles long‼️🙀 At 30mph, it was 6+ minutes! 2 minutes/mile of train! Wow. What a catch Mr. Tooth! And then the chase train right behind it. The perfect spread for a crossing accident. Pray not. NOAA says warmer and drier this winter for Ohio. That’ll work. Good for railfanning! The shot of the cat’s butt at ‘the end’ was purr-fect! Great video. Thumbs up, as always. You’re hot like a furnace. Keep rolling‼️🍀🌞
You got lucky on this one Son ... 3 great catches & DPU's galore ... Thx for posting ...
Now that is a double coal train - lots of cars and a couple of DPUs :) That manifest was cool - 4 engines pulling a small number of cars. The stack train over the bridge had a number of 5 car articulated sets which is cool :)
You would have thought the second train was gonna be another long one since it had four lead locomotives. Was surprised it was a rather short one.
Coal trains are my favorite. Then came another train right behind it. Great catch!
Amazing! Thanks for this video. If anyone thinks coal is dead, they should watch this. Thanks for posting.
Great video that's unusual back to back. Two dpu's alright.
You see the best trains in great locations jaw tooth really awesome video 👍👍👍
Whoever loaded those coal cars has done it a time or two.
That Norfolk Southern had a total of 188 (mostly double stacked) cars being led by three engines.
What an epic day to be at that particular location. Good Job!!!
for sure !
Best video yet JT thx a bunch!
This coal train is pretty long awesome ❤
Great all around video and critters got a nice segment too. 😺
Thank you very much!
Hey hope your having a great day and hope you can make it to texas one year to film some trains down here
That's a lot of West Virginia Coal!
Hey, JT!! Always educational! Didn't know about lowering track bed and corner notching the tunnel ceilings!
That`s the longest coal train I have ever seen! 233 coal cars and 4engines, wow! That was a good video all around.
2 trains again holy smokes and u got one on the bridge your awesome and 3 types of cargo so cool
Thank you very much!
I was running iron ore trains with 960 axles, 240 loads in 1974, DP, when I was 27 years old. Biggest train I ever ran at the throttle was 1232 axles, 308 loads, 42,350 tons of iron ore plus 5 SD40-2s, in 1978. This in heavy grade territory in Northern Quebec and Labrador. Ran 270 loads in DP for 5 years in the 1980s. CSX is catching up with what we routinely did from 1972 onwards. Respectable length and tonnage by any measure. Good video!
That's some fair sized trains on the Quebec iron ore railroads
Loved that long coal train! It amazes me how much a locomotive can pull. Defies the laws of science and physics.
230 coal hoppers, 4 loco’s. By my calculations, around 292ft in length for the 4 loco’s, and 12,199ft for the coal hoppers.
Now in the UK the length limit of freight trains is around 2,541ft or ( old school 121SLU’s [1 slu is 21foot in length ] ) so that roughly works out to a combined 593 SLU’s, or 2.36miles..
So many wheel flat spots, the W.I.L.D systems here in the UK would be having a hissy fit.
Flat spots party time here lol 😂 can imagine that train here would block the network.
Double head (sometimes triple) 37 on Freightliner was the biggest we'd get here in UK 🇬🇧
that is so cool you counted the cars thanks for the cool info !
Greta would need counselling after watching that!
Awesome catch! That's a great place to rail fan, 2 mainlines in the center of town!
Thank you very much!
@@JawTooth Would love to see a video of a train crossing the Ohio river near Portsmouth.
Without counting the engines there should be 236 coal cars ! Thanks for another great video Jaw Tooth
I don't think anybody can say we have a shortage of coal in the USA
Cool job filming the trains
That Cole train was for ever going and going. So cool.
Great Catches
wow 👌 👏 that was amazing 944 axles another after that and one more on the brige great day today nice 👍
Beautiful West Virginia, great location and outstanding video JT. Thanks!
What a great location.
Luck certainly favored you with that day with 944 axle coal train in Kenova, West Virginia.
That East - West train 🚆 on the viaduct could have benefitted with a track greaser, seemed 🤔 as though everything was noisy at this point 👉 👈
Thanks for the cat 🐈 and dog 🐕 ❤ show.
Good morning to all from SE Louisiana 14 Jun 22.
Very nice good job awesome trains
That’s crazy!
Wow. Awesome! That's a great location. And, you weren't coal dusted this time 😉. Thanks for the great video!
good morning ,nice video
Great video. 240 coal cars. At least you were free of coal dust this time.
Of all the places you've been I think that this the best place to watch trains.
Love seein that coal getting hauled! Great catches JT!
All the coal in Pennsylvania just went past. You D' man JT!
So freaking cool super long coal train thanks Jaw Tooth
That's a mega train!
Thank you for documenting these three trains in Kenova, West Virginia on 22 April 2022, Jaw Tooth! That loaded CSX coal train was certainly the longest coat train that I have ever seen on a UA-cam channel. The CSX mixed freight that followed the coal train was a surprise. The Norfolk Southern intermodal train coming across the bridge from South Point, Ohio to Kenova, West Virginia and crossing above the CSX tracks where we saw the first two trains was an added bonus.
Thanks for your time and education about trains.
Our pleasure!
Jaw Tooth you definitely hit the coal train jackpot today!
What are you talking about? He only caught one! ... ... ... 🤣
Die Züge in den USA sind echt der Hammer, solch lange Güterzüge gibt es bei uns in Deutschland nicht.... Was ich aber total süß finde ist die KATZE die ist der hit... tolles Video und viele grüße in die USA
Looks like the coal load was properly wetted down this time, no dust! A nice toot salute from the stack train. Great video at a great spot, thank you sir.
Great catch of the CSX COAL DRAG that consisted of 230 cars! I knew I was in for something when I decided to count them but I get curious too! And what luck to catch a CSX mixed freight train right behind it. Then to see the NS INTERMODAL train coming across that bridge which is definitely a sight to see! When I figured it up the TONNAGE WAS AROUND 24,OOO! Kenova is definitely a HOTSPOT and would like to visit this place sometime. Thanks again for sharing your videos JT along with your time and effort! Appreciate everything you do catching trains!
ANOTHER OUTSTANDING VIDEO WITH EXCELLENT INFO FROM "JT"
Wow and Double !!! Thank You Sir !!!
You are very welcome
Rolled in 1929 and still in service. That track will never wear out. Great industry in this country at one time.
WOW IT IS IMPRESSIVE THE GREAT AMOUNT OF LOAD THAT IS TRANSPORTED IN THIS AREA... GREAT, GOOD VIDEO!!
Jeez that coal train must have stretched across 3 states and several time zones!
One of the best catches to-date!!
Love West Virginia so beautiful and got some good family up there 👆
Great catching of CSX and NS . Love it 😊 cheers sincerely Andrew Macintosh
That’s incredible.
944 axles? Good lord. The mountains have been relieved of their coal, lol - excellent video, JT!
10:41 great video. Love the Crowley containers
Cool spot. They should put a railfan park there. Cool coal train and no coal dust cloud like you experienced a couple weeks ago. Horn salute! 🎺 Keep 'em coming son!!! 👍😁
As fuel prices go up these trains will probably get longer yet. That's a lot of coal on that one. Lucky day that day J.T. Two in a row. Thumbs you on the video. Cool on the rail. Carnegie don't see that to often anymore that's old rail.
230 coal cars. Impressive! I can see the imagery now...the individual unloading all of those...sees it coming and whispers, "You're kidding, right??" LOL!!!! 🤣
What luck two trains together GREAT video...Love that bridge !!
That coal train had a lot of cars with flat spots. And talk about big.
I noticed that too. Seems like about a third of the train had flat spots. The second train had it's share also. The maintenance dept must be on vacation. 😁
What is the cost of one ton of coal
@@edjackson200 Depends on how many men it takes to work it out, lol 🤣🤣
Holy Toledo.....thats the longest coalie Ive seen.
Pretty quiet too,considering.
Great find Brian,good stuff.
That's a nice shot7:09, enhanced by the blossom on the trees behind 🌸
Oh happy day! Lots of train fun!
Great place for watching trains cheers great job. Chris from England.
Fantastic
Three trains at one time
Great spot for train watching
At least this time
Someone treated that coal
No dust flying around
Thank you very much!
@@JawTooth Great videos
You've improved greatly
From eight years ago
And you lost hair 😁😆😅🤣😂🛤
231 (?) coal cars. What a great catch!!
Got stopped by a coal 🚂 in Winfield, Alabama. They are loooong. Another great video. Thank you.
Now that's lucky right there how you get 2 trains basically following eachother. Nice video Jawtooth
Great Video, Jaw Tooth! That monstrous coal train was moving along just fine with just two DPU units. They may have to add power as they cross the Alleghanies to tidewater.
Better than that dust train a couple of weeks ago. Dude, you're getting into WWOT train action!
Awesome video of monster trains with big power and DPU’S, love’m. All on that gigantic trestle/bridge. As usual complimented by your great commentary. Thank you.
THAT'S A LOTTA TRAIN ,, ACTION,, 944 AXEL'S 😍💯,,,D.P.U.,S 👍👍. OUTSTANDING CATCH JAWTOOTH 💯👍
Thank you very much!
There were approximately 230 hopper cars, plus the four locomotives. Watching those trains in West Virginia was probably more exciting than watching other trains in Ohio. This made the first train quite long, and it deserved two more distributed power units. I bid you "Happy Railroading!
1.840 wheels as well
I love West Virginia trains. I am going to be spending a lot of time in that state this summer for sure
I got 230 also so you're not "approximate".
@@jimbograves1576 , That's what I got too.
@@FabianDiazTrainsTrucksNCars thanks Fabian! I appreciate that
Great catches! Enjoyed every minute of it, YOU ARE THE BEST!
Excellent video of the three trains and loved the coal train JT!!!
That was a really cool video Jawtooth. What a super long train that coal train was, with DPU’s in the middle and on the back of the train. Then another train on the parallel double track mains coming up on the coal train. Then that third train going over both tracks on the overhead trestle. How cool is that!!!👍👍👍❤️
I have watched a LOT of your videos--this was a classic!
On my lunch hour when I worked I used to go down to the train station have my coffee and donut and Park,And watch all the freight and cold trains steam on by thanks for sharing
That is awesome!
At least you didn't get full of coal dust this time , fabulous shots on the bridge .
I love the piggi back trains ❤
Loved that coal train, exactly 230 hopper cars
Can’t wait to see your train videos when you travel. I’m glad you were able to get this video uploaded. Long bridge for sure!
This is a nice video! It's funny these two trains that seem to be racing! The first is really a giant! You say 944 axes, which must therefore make 236 cars. I think a car must contain about twenty tons of coal, maybe even more because the coal seems to be very packed. In total, the train must transport nearly 5,000 tons of coal. We won't be cold next winter! There is no wind and with its weight, the train does not run very fast, so no dust around, lucky for you, JT!
Coal hoppers carry around 110 to 120 tons. 130 car coal drag is over 15,000 tons of coal. We run a train similar to this 230 load train here down the roxboro North Carolina. It has 2 engines on the headend, 3 dpu, and 2 on the rear with 210 loaded coal cars.
5,000 😂😂
Wow I think I'm hypnotized 😵💫 Awesome long catch Jaw tooth 😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it
One long money shot son. Excellent work JT
Awesome 👏 videos ! Awesomeness- long!!!!! Great catch !!!
Love the birds eye map and all the information you give. Great video son!
Love to see all that coal moving through!
I realized to today long train is true american train . Thank you .
Re-roof my house, built a new deck and change the oil in my truck, and the video was still running! At least you didn't get covered in coal dust this time. LOL
👍
