- When birds have chicks in the nest, the need for gathering nourishing food overcomes their normal fear of people. Especially when you can offer live mealworms. At home on the edge of Hampshire's New Forest in the UK, in early June every year.

Thanks for your question. Yes, both the Robin and the Blackbird had chicks to feed. The Blackbird is a male (the female has brown feathers).

How can I accustom wild blackbirds and robins to eat in the hand? With patience will I get it?
Thanks for your question. The best time is as soon as the birds have chicks to feed. They are under huge pressure to find a lot of food and this makes them far less nervous of humans if you have live food to offer. Leave a bowl of mealworms out on the ground. Then after you see robins and/or blackbirds regularly feeding from it, after a day or two, go and sit quietly beside the bowl. It won't be long before you can remove the bowl and hold your hand on the ground with a few live mealworms in it. The birds will quickly overcome their usual wariness and take the food from your palm. Good luck!

I actually cannot believe that that is a robin it certainly doesn't look like the robins here in the United States the Orange is all on their chest none of it on the face looks like a bluebird but I looked it up apparently it's a European Robin never been to Europe so that can explain my confusion
The UK/European Robin seems to differ in coloration/pattern to some sub-species in the USA
