    Mesmerising, i couldn't stop once i started. I felt sad at the sorry state of the Forrestfield interchange. As a resident of the Fremantle area its infuriating how many trucks dominate when rail could do it all if properly redeveloped. Cheers for this.

    18:49, that must be the tunnel where the thornlie cockburn railway peels off from the armadale/byford/bunbury line. theyve ripped everything up before putting it all back down for the line extension to the mandurah line.

    There is a lot more work going on along this stretch than I thought. I thought it was just the Ranford Rd station but I see they are adding noise reduction barriers behind the residential areas as well. Hope the addition of passenger trains along this stretch is successful. Not in this video but related is the work on the big revamp of the Armadale line. Coming along nicely and not at the snails pace I am used to seeing on these projects. Be nice to have our trains back. Kudos to the government for spending our money on useful stuff rather than fluff like a bell tower.

      The main line is two tracks until just before Forrestfield yard then becomes single track. The yard access then comes off giving the impression of back to two tracks. 👍😀

    • @neilgerace355
      @neilgerace355 6 місяців тому +3

      IIRC until 1981 the line was single track from Forrestfield back to Cockburn. At this place there was a rail flyover that served Kewdale. There was only room for one track under it. When the flyover was removed, the line wasn't doubled, for the above reason.

    Speaking of freight lines,great news in the federal budget,you,not long ago,did a heritage train journey to Portland,Victoria, and everyone could see the poor state of the line,with a crawling speed of 40 KPH,hardly making it economically viable to move freight,especially grain,the federal budget has allocated $150 million to upgrade the line from Maroona to Portland 😊👍

    The motor vehicle all but killed trains. If you look at a historical map of South Western Australia, rail lines were a thick web, going everywhere. But most were pulled up. And now it takes billions to lay a short stretch of track. Not rabidly anti-vehicles, but it is sad. train used to be the cheapest form of long distance travel on land, but now if you go Perth to Sydney on the IP is costs a small fortune.

    • @driver667
      @driver667  6 місяців тому +1

      East West across Australia is purely a tourist train now. The motor vehicle certainly changed the rail landscape over the years but all is not lost. Victoria is a good example of the resurgence of train travel. Build it and they will come has been proven here in Victoria. 👍😀
