This stretch of line was settled by my forefathers decades before the railway came through, and I was able to spot my late grandma's house on the ridge above Sulphur Creek. Pity that I have never had an opportunity to ride on a passenger train on the main lines in Tasmania.
@@johnlang4198 I hope one day we will have the chance to ride the rails along here again in a heritage train. You never know what the future holds. 🤔👍😀
Really enjoyed the trip... I have only done it once in the cab of a freight train many years ago.. But drove trucks on the Highway and the old coast road through Sulphur Creek, a few times each week.. I used to go right through to Smithton, often glimpsing the line beyond Burnie during the trip.. It's all gone now I'm told.. What a pity? I reckon in the far future it may be back (I hope, although I'll be long gone by then)? The rail may be needed to replace heavy road transport in the far distant future again? I doubt if EV trucks will ever work?
Surely it wouldn’t be hard to buy a few v’locity units off Victoria, even if only two-car sets. 2 return runs from Burnie to Lonny per day should be viable with a couple of carriages?
@@alesha_chimera narrow gauge is not a problem. There are plenty of passenger trains around the country that run on narrow gauge. Political will is required to make it happen. I can't see a regular public transport service operating but tourism would benefit greatly from allowing heritage trains to run along here again. 👍😀
You will get there. Tassy can be a cheap enjoyable holiday if you explore the back roads and quiet beaches. Instead of the Overland Track, try Lee's Paddocks, The Walls of Jerusalem. North East Mount Cameron or the Billycock railtrail.
I know there is probably a lot of paper work involved but like seems like a no brainer to run tourist trains out of Don between Burnie and Devonport. Sad seeing that loop in Penguin being pulled up at one end. Can anyone else name a railway line in Australia that runs the coast like that ?
That's a badarse sounding whistle on that loco. My Sister in law in Bangkok lives right next to the Bangkok-Maeklong line and there is a frequent railcar service on that line, one of the railcars has an identical sounding whistle. At 28 20, my Sister lives at Sulphur Creek on the right, that's her house on the hill.
Spectacular weather for this one. Blue sky all the way.
Yes, a beautiful day for a train trip! 👍😀
Traveling up the coast is so very satisfying. 😊

Thank you for this video. Nice and interesting cab ride. First in Tasmania. Some beautiful views over the Bass Straits see at low tide.

Every time I watch this, I'm just going to be disappointed and sad that Tasmania got rid of her Intercity Trains.
Let's hope they let tourist trains back on the main line at some stage. 👍😀
