  • All I planned for this 10 days trek was that I was going to fly to Geneva and take a bus to Chamonix and start hiking from there. I booked hotels for the first and the last night. And that was it.The rest of the itineraries were decided on the spot with one criterion: If there were multiple route choices (yes, there were many), I took the one with the highest elevation. It worked really well. All the places in high elevation were incredibly beautiful with no crowd. To spend more time in the high elevation, we used transportations such as buses, trains, and cable cars whenever available.
    Scenery: ★★★★★
    Difficulty: ★★★★★
    Here are the detailed itineraries:
    June 30: Flew to Geneva and stayed the night
    July 1: Geneva - Chamonix (Bus, 2 hours)
    Chamonix - Les Houches (Bus, 10 mins)
    Les Houches - Bellevue (Cable car, 10 mins)
    Bellevue - Col de Tricot - Les Contamines
    Camped at le Pontet campground
    July 2: Les Contamines - Col des Fours - Ref des Mottets
    Stayed in the dorm room at Ref des Mottets
    July 3: Ref des Mottets - Col de la Seigne - Rif Elisabetta
    Rif Elisabetta - Courmayeur (Taxi, 30 mins)
    Stayed in a hotel in Courmayeur
    July 4: Courmayeur - Tete de la Tronche - Col Sapin - Rifugio Bonatti
    Camped near Rifugio Bonatti
    July 5: Rifugio Bonatti - Grand Col Ferret - Ferret
    Ferret - Champex (Hitch hiking, 30 mins)
    Camped at Champex campground
    July 6: Champex - Fenêtre d'Arpette - Le Peuty
    Camped at Le Peuty campground
    July 7: Trient - Argentière (Bus and train, 1 hour)
    Argentière - Lac Blanc
    Stayed Ref du Lac Blanc
    July 8: Lac Blanc - Col du Lac Cornu - Planpraz
    Camped at Planpraz
    July 9: Planpraz - Le Brévent (Cable car, 5 mins)
    Le Brévent - Lac du Brévent - Le Brévent
    Le Brévent - Chamonix (Cable car, 10 mins)
    Stayed in a hotel in Chamonix
    Chamonix - Geneva (Bus, 2 hours)
    Flew back to San Francisco by 9:40 PM flight
    I carried mini stove and instant ramens just in case, but I eat most of the meals at restaurants or mountain huts. There were plenty of places to eat. So no need to carry much food. Most of the mountain huts accepted only cash. I spent about 800 euro for 10 days including transportation, accommodation and food. I stayed 5 nights in my tent. If you don't carry a tent, you will need more money and book accommodation in advance. I brought my tent not to save money but to have complete flexibility where I stay. Carrying a tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bag for 10 days needs a lot of effort, but it was worth it.

    This is my first comment EVER on UA-cam. I've seen nearly 30 TMB videos by now (preparing for TMB soon myself), and only yours has compelled me to comment. You've got the natural talent for amazing camera angles, sharp, crisp images, framing, and best of all - the joyous celebrations with friends over beer, food, and backdrops of spectacular views. Thank you for sharing this with us.

    Amazing. Well done! Hope to do the TMB soon. Was last year in Chamonix, aguille du midi, awesome area.
    How hard was the TMB and how dangerous can it be wild camping while having rly bad weather? ...Thats my biggest concern as im just a beginner.

    • @YongsungKim
      @YongsungKim  3 роки тому

      It's very strenuous as the daily elevation gain is more than 1000m, but you might not feel that it's hard as it's so beautiful.
      I haven't experienced bad weather there. So I cannot tell. But I think you can easily avoid camping in bad weather as there are many refuges. I heard that they never turned away guests in bad weather.

    Mr. Kim fan 입니다.
    저희도 3년전에 계획했던 TMB trekking 을 코비드 때문에 미루었다가 올 8월초에 가게 되었는데 Mr. Kim 의 고품질 비디오가 많은 도움이 되었습니다.저희는 Self guided tour 라 가이드 없이 식사와 잠만 여행사에서 예약해 준 hut 와 hotel 에서 먹고 자고 하는 식입니다. 뒤늦게 한명이 추가로 합류하고 싶어서 여행사에 문의를 해봤는데 이미 늦었다고 해서 본인 혼자 백팩킹 장비를 가지고라도 저희가 묵는 hut 가까운데서 캠핑을 하며 저희 루트를 따라 올까 하는데 가능할지 모르겠습니다.
    TMB route 가 저희와 비슷하고 주로 캠핑을 하셨던것 같아 질문을 드립니다. (Les Houches 에서 시작하여 반 시계방향으로 13박 14일) 그분 혼자 Hut 근처에서 캠핑이 가능한지 그리고, 예약이나 퍼밋을 미리 받아야 하는지 알고 싶습니다.
    감사합니다.

      Wilderness permit만 받으면 어디서든 텐트를 치고 잘 수 있는 미국의 방식에 익숙해져 있다보니 2주일치 숙소를 미리 예약하고 산행을 한다는 것이 너무 큰 제약으로 느껴졌어요. 그래서 숙소 예약을 전혀 안하고 텐트를 가져갔었는데, 유럽은 미국과 많이 다르다는 것을 현지에 가서야 알게됐습니다. 유럽에는 Wilderness 개념이 없는 것 같구요, TMB는 국립공원도 아니고 사유지가 많았습니다. 그래서 아무데나 텐트를 치는 건 불가능했습니다.
      Hut 근처에서 캠핑하는 건 어렵습니다. 여행사에서 예약한 Hut에 직접 전화해서 개인적으로 예약을 하시길 추천드립니다. 제 경우는 당일날 찾아가 자리가 있냐고 물어도 대부분 있다고 했어요.

      @@YongsungKim 친절하고 빠른 답변 감사드립니다. 유명한 TMB 가 국립공원이 아니라 사유지가 많다니 신기합니다.유럽은 미국과 시스템이 다른가 봅니다. 예약없이 Walk-in 으로 가는건 묵을 장소가 여러군데인데다 성수기라서 좀 생각을 해봐야겠습니다. 다시한번 감사드립니다.

    Hi, did you do the class TMB or was it the Haute Route?

    • @YongsungKim
      @YongsungKim  4 роки тому

      I did TMB but not the classic one. There are many variants branching from the main TMB route. The main route is designed for everyone. The variants shares the same start and end points of the day but slightly difficult with better view. I took the variants whenever available.
      Haute route is very different from TMB. TMB goes around Mount Blanc. Haute route is from Chamonix in France to Zermatt in Switzerland.

      From the footage TMB seems much easier than the high Sierra Nevada?

    • @YongsungKim
      @YongsungKim  4 роки тому

      @@kl-ke9ec No. I would say that it was one of the most strenuous hikes I've ever done. The total elevation gain for 9 days were almost 40,000 feet. I had to climb 4000 to 5000 feet everyday. In Sierra, the daily elevation gain rarely exceeds 3000 feet.
      Do you plan to go there next summer?

    • @kl-ke9ec
      @kl-ke9ec 4 роки тому

      @@YongsungKim Thanks Kim for the great info, looks like I underestimated TMB. Yes, I'm planning on doing it the next summer, it would likely to be the last week of June or beginning of Sept, was there alot snow you have to deal with at higher elevation? do you see if its doable in a week? I'm able to do up to 20 miles in the Sierras that's why I was comparing it with. I don't think I will have two full weeks for the trip and will have to squeeze everything down to 10 days or less.
