    Great! Those of us who can't go to every boat show can discover interesting innovations, more sustainable, practical and affordable. It's good to know that this consistent selection comes from a couple who are in the process of building a boat, with many choices to make, on a limited budget. Rushing through the booths without systematic interviews makes for a super efficient and entertaining video.

    Great video. Some cool kit. We have had nothing but issues with our watermaker and it's about to become an ex-watermaker! Hey love the channel, content, and energy! May I make tiny suggestions with full respect? Sometimes the music in the background overpowers the vocals, which I really want to hear!! The only other thing I would say is that it would be awesome if you broke the video into segments or chapters (easily done in the descriptions when you upload the videos) so we can see what on the docket and can skip ahead or pick and choose what we watch... just thoughts, again, well done!

    What would be better than all wireless components, is a set of clear standards for running wires, every new boat being made to a standard of wire runs, labeling. After all you still have to power all these components. So there's really no big deal to run the extra NMEA 2000 wires. And of course moving to 24v and 48v components would be a huge step up.
    I think of my bow thruster, instead of 12v, large amperages, fat wires -- a lot of heat. If it was 48 v the wires would be smaller, and I'll bet it would operate for more than two minutes before it shuts down to cool off.
    Nice hatch, but now you need a winch handle.....

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub  Місяць тому

      For sure, all of these things your speaking of should be done on a boat. A common set of standards doesn’t work so well though as it will become expensive. Basically because everyone will need to stockhold rolls of wire they rarely use, and wire is expensive. Then of course there is the anomalies where one autopilot needs extra wires etc…
      Still, boats should be wired with an appropriate wiring diagram, that’s how I do it for my customers anyhow. It just makes sense.
      All being said, I’m a fan of wireless systems, the less wires to break the better!
      As sailors we don’t really need much instrumentation anyhow, a manual compass and some string for wind and maybe even sheet to tiller steering, it worked for years… easy to forget this with all the new tech going on!

    Did you see if there is any companies going for DP-systems (dynamical positioning) for sailboats? Volvo has a system but I cant find any companies that are intressted in doing this for us sailors. Just imagine how simple things get when we get that..

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub  Місяць тому +1

      Hey, the guys in this video do it - the Blue Nav motor. Well, they allow us to stay in a static position so I imagine they are progressing their tech as they go, they are pretty new to the market and a super switched on bunch. Never saw anything else but I will keep my eyes peeled for it rather next events!
      Thanks for that,

      @@SailHub Yes exactly. But that system has as you said only been used for Motor boats. I hope it will come! Strange to me that the bigg players like Ocean volt doesnt have it yet. Btw, cool changel!

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub  Місяць тому

      @sebastiankrook7663 the problem is it needs to rotate, I reckon the place to watch is technologies. Marco is super switched on to what tech is going to be important in the future.
      As for blue nav, they are interested in sailing for sure, that’s why it lifts up into the hull, less drag and more speed! They were so new at the point of filming that I don’t think they had much experience with sailboats yet.
      But yeah, cool topic to an eye on!

    • @sebastiankrook7663
      @sebastiankrook7663 Місяць тому

      @@SailHub Well actually either a rotatable as you say or a stern thruster. The issue is that you need to be able to rotate the surge probeller slow in case of low winds. This means it probobly needs to be electrical.
      Wich Technologies - Marco are you refering to? :)

      Sorry fella, typo - EPTechnologies, most permanent magnet motors can be slowed down as the cogging is significantly reduced, especially with axial flux variants.

    Saying that Elvstrøm Sails is from Finland disqualifies you from sailing and from "journalism" at the same time. Where journalism is also a real profession and I am using the term in its broadest possible form.
    OMG - what a weird world is this.

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub  Місяць тому +3

      😂 your right! We had just been speaking with Wallas who are from Finland! Best edit that, we don’t want to miss inform people! Thank you.
      They are from Denmark and great mates with their neighbours over the water from Sweden. These shows are a right mess of statistics, hundreds of people, specs and info in a short period.. It’s not like we sit and plan what we’re gonna say either, we’re run and gun due to time constraints and what comes out is what you get!
      Mind you journalism is indeed a profession, it’s a tough one for sure but it’s not our profession, if we had the time to make it ours things would probably be very different. Im just sharing my thoughts from another angle, that of a boatbuilder. Hope you understand👍

      Hey Craig, as soon as we can fella. Just building home first you see we can’t live in Switzerland without the van.
      On a positive note I think we have a place to cast the keel here in the UK so it looks like we will get into that soon! Will also go into the keel design and how the scanning went and the likes. None of this is quick stuff as we need to get it as right! We really wish we could just smash it out and get onto her sharpish too! Hope you understand👍

    3:50 - 975£ on a 500w motor and you call that "low price"? Is the most expensive electric motor on the market. 420W Intex - 100£ at 12V. Other brands and like 1150W 200£ ish. I don't see any future for that product, sorry.

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub  Місяць тому

      Hi! So they don’t come as a full package, as in there is no battery or charging solution. As far as full all in one packages go it’s pretty competitive.

    • @quarkkinoanimals5444
      @quarkkinoanimals5444 Місяць тому

      @@SailHub one 12v Gel Deep Cicle battery 100Ah (which goes 1h 30 min at 430W) is 150£ maximum. Charger - 20£. Still not adding up to retail price of your example, sorry.

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub  Місяць тому

      @@quarkkinoanimals5444 I’m not arguing your point and I’m not trying to put too much of my opinion on this, it’s just fact. That is sadly cheap for an all in one solution. The prices are out of this world but that’s what they are.
      If you want an internal battery that’s the cost of things. If you’re happy with separate batteries then you can save a fortune. No question.

    • @quarkkinoanimals5444
      @quarkkinoanimals5444 Місяць тому

      @@SailHub We don't have to agree and argumenting is not arguing :). If you could replace the battery while charging, that would be awesome. For AIO option, yes it's good and good looking, but still way too expensive for 40mins 500W. If you want, I can exagerate and bring on the table for that money 5HP Honda brand new on petrol (sure it's not apples to apples but it's another option). Good day and thanks for your reply.

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub  Місяць тому +1

      @quarkkinoanimals5444 yeah you right! Petrol is way more cost effective!
      There are loads of “separate” electric systems out there that are cheaper too. Way cheaper but like you say for an all in one at around 1/2 a Kw there isn’t much to compare against. Maybe the Temo 450.
      I don’t actually see that we’re arguing at all, I think we’re in agreement that separates are way cheaper and all in one options are limiting and expensive.

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub  Місяць тому +1

      I presume your referring to the Amare set up?
      Maybe a little harsh, manual overrides for everything, that’s got to be pretty rare? I’m not aware of too many mesh systems in vehicles either, probably a few out there but when I was building a race car it was very hard to find a suitable customisable ecu from a donor vehicle, it had to be a custom product. Anyhow things may have moved on by now and I would love to know which one you could suggest as we are looking for something for the new boat we are building,
      Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Cheers 👍
