    Awesome video. The weighted wacky rig has killed this year in Missouri. Really like the Fusion weighted wacky head. You stuck some nice ones

    Lately that's generally how I fish is finesse all the time smaller lures and soft plastics. No bigger than 3" my result I've caught some big smallies 🙂

    Fishing is not a one approach works for all rivers or lakes. Great advice for YOUR rivers maybe not everywhere in the world

      I agree to some extent. I make these videos so you can take away some broad ideas that can be applied to different bodies of water. I've fished very different streams in different parts of the US and it's easy to find a lot in common, especially just thinking of fish behavior and where they like to be in the late summer.

    Another pattern I like for the center river channel are small swim or football head jigs with crayfish trailers. Sometimes racing it across the bottom will get their attention.

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  Рік тому +1

      Absolutely! Now is the time of year when those dual purpose craw trailers really shine in my experience. For me the fish tend to be at opposite extremes either wanting a lot of action or none at all, so those can really do both pretty well.

    Lots of good content in the several vids I have watched. Which rods(not specific brand but power and action) do you recommend for shallow river 2-4lb smallmouths. Many recommend rods for SM on lakes and large rivers but not many for shallow rivers like we have here in the south east foothills. Almost every SM here is going airborne since the water is only 2-4ft deep and it's tough to keep them from shaking the hook. When kayak fishing on small rivers we don't use $400 rods, the guys think I'm crazy for taking $200 rods but I think using a dark sleeper I need to feel the bottom and walmart rods just don't do it IMO.

      My 4 rods for the river all come in under $200 minus one. I almost always take a 7' MHXF casting, a 7' MF or MHF casting, a 6'10" MF spinning, and a 6'6" MHF spinning. This is dependent on the lures I'm throwing but covers a lot of bases and allows for options on the river.

      Good and thanks. I use 3 MH baitcast (2 fast and 1 Med) then a MF spin Walleye rod for finesse type baits. Sounds like I need to work on hooksetting. @@RivermanTV-

    How’s does the motor do going up stream on rivers?

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  9 місяців тому

      I've only encountered one situation when it struggled to go upstream and that was in very fast water on the Susquehanna River. I was able to pedal and motor up eventually but it took some effort. Over 2 seasons, that's the only time the motor seemed to not have enough power. Last spring, I was able to go upstream a few miles on a river that was moving WAY faster than it normally does throughout the year. It was slow going at times but it did the job. At normal flows, the motor has no issue moving upstream.

    Great videos!!
    I do find earlier in the morning, small mouth, move, shallower in faster, moving water, and once the sun comes out in the afternoon they go into the deeper holes. Maybe on a cloudy day, they didn’t move to the holes.

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV-  Рік тому +1

      That could definitely have been the case. Even the fish we caught around cover weren't really buried deep inside of it but just seemed to be hanging out around it.
