Every river is different. If caught these on some of the rivers I fish, they would be considered mega giants. It just so happens that 18-19' fish are fairly abundant here.

Even when i night fish ill use trophy bass by procure even if i use natural colored soft plastic. It proves time and time again that fish use their sense of smell to locate food accurately and quickly. Plus the trophy bass covers up our human scent when you put lure or soft plastics on 😊

Watching your videos is see where youre fishing. Have yoi ever checked out the verlillion of the IL. Ive never fished the lower section that feeds into the IL but the section near streator is rocky and i have consistently caught big smallies from there. Plan on hitting the lower secrion this spring. The water has some rapids so itll be an adventure.

I've fished a section of the Vermilion between Pontiac and Streator and caught a million smallmouth but they were all quite small. I've also fished closer to the IL but in those areas I am going after species other than bass.

Id put trophy bass on soft plastic by procure. The way, if say i wanted to use a more natural color the smallies will find soft plastics by smell. Fishes sense of smell is really strong. Its a bass or even catfish, especially the strongest sense, is their ability to tract forage by smell. Yes, even in murkey water. They are even able to find their location of where they stay by smell as well as their lateral line.

I just found your channel this morning and I’m glad I did. Im in the PNW and the Willamette river is known for small mouth so I’ll be studying your content. Thanks!

For me, Wacky's are by far and away the 'go-to' for Fall Smallies. Fishing them very slow.

It's a killer bait. I rely on it heavily late summer but for some reason never bring it out much in the fall months.

I’m still getting some good action on a square Bill crank bait near the southern end of the Susquehanna. I love throwing that in the fall but I will definitely be giving these a try as the water gets cooler

I don't doubt it! Last week the crankbait bite kicked back on around here after an unseasonably cold week. Water temps have stayed up so it should last a little longer.

You said you are in Wisconsin. Have you ever fished the Yellow River or the St Croix for smallies?

I've never done either of those but the Upper St Croix has been on the to-do list.

The fish definitely kicked back on around here too. I'm back to catching crankbait fish around here.
