Russia will not give up the land corridor to Crimea. As both Russia and Ukraine exhausted their capacity along the present frontline, the realistic proposal will be a ceasefire and long negotiations without any peace agreement. Remember, there still isn’t a peace agreement in Korea. On paper, they are at war. Something similar may occur in Ukraine.
@@holdfast453 Alright. But negotiations are pretty much out. Putin has had his fill of the lying, cheating West and he is well within his rights. It is more like the West has to surrender. But that too will be a long process.

Absolutely. The number of young men who lost their lives in this preventable war is grossly underreported. Ukrainian or Russian, all people with parents, children, wives and friends. Nearly a million are dead already, and tens of thousands are injured. Hospitals on both sides are filled with young men, mostly from low-income backgrounds, who have lost one or multiple limbs and are permanently disabled. What is the meaning of this war? What is the goal? What bigger purpose does it serve? Nothing, except bloodshed, creating generational trauma for decades to come, forcing misplacement of millions to flee, etc...
Not to make light of the suffering or loss at all…but when I hear war hawks speak, I am reminded of Lord Farquaad of Shrek…”some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make”
It's incorrect to put these two sides on the same moral footing: Putin's objective is to increase the size of his empire by erasing the nation of Ukraine from existence, while Ukrainians are fighting for their very national survival.
With all respect to Victor Davis Hanson, he needs to get his facts straight. Crimea wasn't an independent country. And Khrushchev didn't give Donbas to Ukraine. He gave Crimea, which was a part of the Russian Federation, to Ukraine. Donbas, on the other hand, was part of Ukraine since the initial formation of the USSR, even though number of ethnically Russian people in Donbas was close to the number of ethnic Ukrainians.
Good catch by you. I was totally confused at first by what VDH was saying and wondering if maybe I wasn’t hearing him right… Like, how does VDH not know that? Pretty shocking that a PhD military historian whom I’d long held in high regard would betray such complete and utter ignorance of the most basic facts about a war that’s now almost 3 years old.
@@kevincrosby3953 No, Donbas wasn't under Ukrainian control prior to February 2022. There was a war in the region since 2014. In 2014, just like in Crimea, there was a movement (or an insurrection or a revolution or whatever else one may call it) in Donbas to separate from Ukraine. The main difference was that Crimea declared independence and then nearly immediately joined Russia, while Donbas didn't join Russia. It was divided into three parts. One part remained under control of the Ukrainian government. The other two parts were controlled by the two provisional governments of Donetsk and Luhansk republics. These republics were at war with the Ukrainian government. In the next 8 years, several attempts were made to end the war and resolve the situation through so called Minsk agreements brokered by France, Germany and Russia. According to these agreements, Donbas was to gain an autonomous status within Ukraine. However, the agreements were never realized and the war continued. Although Ukraine signed these agreements, its constitution says that Ukraine is a unitary state, not a federation. This precluded a possibility of having any autonomous regions. Overcoming it required a change in the constitution and such change was never adopted. It is probably worth noting that Donbas wanted to gain an autonomous status pretty much from the start of formation of Ukraine as an independent state. As early as 1994, 90% of Donbas voted for this. Culturally, ethnically and politically, there have always been significant differences between eastern and western Ukraine.
@@IrenePolikoff Thank you for the clarification, I am always amazed at how little knowledge there is about historical context, especially with regard to Ukraine.
As stated by the historian the “ deal “ in relation to Ukraine is going to reward Russian aggression with severe consequences in the future . Historians will write about such concept of a deal ….
I was about to say the same, but you took it out of my mouth, like you said putting will never agree to the 2022 line, NEVER anyone who thinks that is completely delusional, I will say this, for Russia Ukraine being in NATO is an existential treat to the sovereignty of Russia, more so Russia doesn't trust the West any longer..so good luck to trump trying, but i will tell you this, its either Putin's way or no way.
The Donbas region has legally and constitutionally belonged to Russia since 2022, and that will never change. The oppressed people of the Donbas voted overwhelmingly to rejoin Russia, as per their right to self-determination, and neither the US/NATO, or Ukraine have the manpower or military strength to openly challenge Russia, which is why they have instead been waging a cowardly proxy w. ar... that they instigated in the first place.
People forget those regions that broke away from ukraine did everything by the book. They held referendums and voted to rejoin russia. As usual the west ignored those results and even went after the independent reporters who covered the referendums. Had the west not staged a coup, helped ukraine bomb the donbass for 10 years and broke agreement after agreement, would we be in this mess?
the only advantage Russia has is that Ukraine will run out of men to fight before they do. However. If the war continues for another year or two they will win but will no longer have the manpower to defend themselves or even occupy Ukraine.
Hansen's account of recent exchanges between Iran & Israel & their implications for the balance of power between the nations is certainly very different to Scott Ritter's?

I have huge respect for VDH, but I disagree with him that Crimea and the Donbas are not militarily defeatable. Apply enough pressure, and Putin will walk away.

"The USA withdrew from the INF disarmament agreement with Russia in 2019. According to the recommendation of the US State Department, if agreements are more like political declarations of intent, they should generally be drafted in such a way that they can be distinguished from treaties that are binding under international law on the basis of certain formal, stylistic and linguistic features: In the case of more political declarations of intent, it recommends to avoid the expression “parties” in the text and “contract” in the title. With regard to actions, expressions such as “shall”, “agree” or “oblige” and “will” (the latter due to ambiguity) should be avoided. Instead, “should,” “intends,” or “expects” are preferred. The expression “enter into force” should be avoided, as should the reference to “equal authenticity” (equal legal validity of all language versions). There should be a disclaimer at the end of the agreement. As such, a memorandum of understanding is not always legally non-binding, so its legal nature should be made clear. Based on most of these features, except for the disclaimer, the Treaty Law Organization characterized the memorandum as legally non-binding, contrary to a different understanding by the New York Times. The Russian political scientist Vladislav Belov, on the other hand, points out that the memorandum was not ratified by the State Duma. Therefore, it should only be viewed as a declaration of intent by the Russian government at the time under Boris Yeltsin, but not as binding under international law." (Very importantly, Mr. Putin was not in office at the time.) "Regarding allegations by the government of Belarus that the United States was violating the memorandum, the U.S. Embassy in Minsk announced in a press release in April 2013 that the United States took its commitments to Belarus seriously, although the memorandum was not legally binding. In an interview in November 2020, German Ambassador to Kiev Anka Feldhusen stated that the memorandum was nothing more than a political declaration and not an international treaty." You can find this nice summary in German Wikipedia.

People like to think in terms of fixed realities. They are comfortable with insights that allow for a foundation for thought, memes that put discussions at a common, accessible level. For example, a leopard does not change its spots. Trump is a salesman or a dealmaker is such an analogy. In some ways most of us will tend to remain what others see that we are. I think that it is not doing Trump justice to see him as mired in his own personality. He has learned. He is more Presidential. He has a better stable of appointees. He will hit the ground running, but not like last time, when he went at things like a bull in a china shop. When reading philosophers, I have inevitably seen a pattern in which the writer first sets up some initial conditions that one is asked to accept before going on to understand the philosophy that is to follow. This initiation into someone's ideas is useful; and the wise man's tendency will be to move on to the main material. The set of initial conditions is generally left out of the ensuing journey. This approach can take us far; but it also accounts for some of the differences of opinion that eventually manifest. The more solid the ground, the better the argument. Building ideas on shifting sand or mud is a tricky situation. Unless his chosen legacy, assuming that he is satisfied with what many think of that, is to be seen as a great dealmaker, he will choose to be remembered as a great Statesman. I think that his image of a man successful at building a business empire will be secondary. He has already achieved some amazing things. The question, for me, is "how far will he go?". Israel and Ukraine both are changing the rules of the last century. If Trump can exploit present reality as they are doing, there will be a big shift that will not have to result in a Nuclear Conflagration. The World is being crushed by its own internal friction. Progress has been challenged to the extent that atavistic views are competing with the best that we have learned. Morality is in confusion; bloodthirsty schemes of World domination are rampant; Empires are receiving some credibility; religions are abandoning compromise; questions and opinions have jumped to the head of the line. Trump is no Messiah; but he is the first potential Statesman that we have seen in a very long time. I hope that he will succeed.
I don't think Russia will accept that deal. Russia will want all four Oblasts it has taken: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zhaporizhe. Refer to zJohn Mearsheimer on this. The USA can't provide more of what Ukraine really needs: soldiers and artillery with shells. In addition the US has NO economic leverage on Russia. The USA has a very weak hand in this situation.
Putin starts wars and makes threats and attacks others. Putin is a greedy warmonger. Not surprising a warmonger won't make peace. Problem: Putin's Russian military is incompetent. If Putin won't give it up in a peace deal, he will lose it in battle. US and EU have plenty of leverage on Russia - clamp down on sanctions.
When God brought the people of Israel out of Egypt, His laws shaped an unruly company of ex-slaves into a nation-a uniquely set-apart people. This government was not to be ruled by King Moses or President Joshua. Leaders were God’s intermediaries & the people’s servants. Israel was not initially a monarchy or a democracy but a theocracy- a government by God. Therefore, although the laws were, in general, like other laws, archeologists have discovered in ancient inscriptions that they were also different. Civil, social, criminal, family, & ceremonial laws in OT made this people radically God’s. Jesus, in fact, made the meaning of the laws richer still, even as He took their penalties on Himself. Jesus said,” I have not come to abolish, but to fulfill “ Mathew 5.17,emphasis added So what do they mean if they are not abolished but fulfilled in Jesus’ life & death? Jesus answered that all of the commandments of God are summed up in two rules: 1) Love God, 2) Love your neighbor. Do such rules apply ? Is not the church a people ruled by love?
Although true believers be not under the law as a covenant of works, to be thereby justified or condemned; yet it is of great use to them, as well as to others, in that, as a rule of life, informing them of the will of God & their duty, it directs & binds them to walk accordingly
One thing that is needed is godly fathers. I guess we all know what a dad is. It’s a person who has traded in all the dollar bills in his wallet for snapshots of his family. All good humor, but we are discovering how important in the social sciences, that is, & one writer said that the greatest need globally on this planet is for fathers to take seriously their responsibility as fathers. The vast number of children in America today, they have never had a legitimate father, & if they did, it wasn’t for very long. So, as commonplace as it may seem, that means the first thing you need to do is get married before you father a child. Yet we live in a time when sadly, illegitimacy has been sanctioned by our secular culture as being quite all right. So, fathers, you need to get married before gathering. And you need to stay married. We need to see that our job as fathers is the most important thing we have to do in this world. What kind of father are you? Are you the spiritual head of your home? Are you leading your family in prayer? Have you taught your children the Bible? Have you taught them the great truths of Scripture? Have you done as you said you would when you brought your baby to be baptized? Have you prayed with them & for them? Have you taught them the Word? Have you taught them the doctrines of our faith? Do your children believe your faith is vitally important in your life? Have you taught your children how to share the gospel? Are you bringing your children up in the nurture & admonition of the Lord? There are fathers, sad to say, who are dragging their children down unto the pit bc they’re not teaching them the Gospel of Christ. I trust you are not one of those. May God richly bless you & make you see how important being a godly father really is. Proverbs 23.22 We all can do better

I found 6 targets hit at Nevatim and we only got photos of one of the three bases hit where only about 1/6th of the missiles went. Not a good take. Why would russia accept losing ~700k KIA/WIA just to get back to where they started? This does not even begin to adress the fact that russia has annexed Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts and incorporated them into the constitution, thus making it virtually impossible for them to just be ceded. russia would not even accept freezing the conflict at the current line since they do not hold the capitals of the previously mentioned oblasts, not to mention large parts of Donbas.

5:29, WHAT!?! Once again I'm astounded by the arrogance of VDH, someone who I do think is a genuine scholar and most insightful. Why would Russia feel it needs to give back 80,000 sq km of land? Because the Ukrainians are losing their grasp on the 1,200 sq km they captured in Russia? I wholeheartedly hope Trump does set a magic spell and make this whole thing go away, but there is no reason for Putin to settle for any deal that isn't overwhelmingly on Russia's terms. From Putin's perspective, he should not stop in Ukraine, Ukraine has shown it is quite the adversary to Russia, Trump will be gone in 4 years and Russia is currently winning the war. The left thinks Putin needs Trump, the right is certain that Trump can stop the war, but were all in an echo chamber together. Ukraine is problematic and the Russians can just defeat Ukraine. Victor might have gotten a little disconnected from reality with all those "war expert" round tables he hosts or participates in. This type of delusion can be pretext for a worse war, by the way.
@@michaeltaylor6907 I bet your thinking into the Korean troop idea too much. When are you people going to realize that you have zero reliable barometer on Russian losses? I would be more likely to believe these arguments if they didn't sound exactly like war propaganda.

Putin's invasion of Ukraine and his attempt to destroy Ukraine's independence were wrong and a violation of treaties and international law, and has made Russia a pariah nation and Putin a war criminal. If Putin doesn't give it up, he will remain isolated and his economy will collapse.
I thought Mr Hanson is more knowledgeable on the subject of Russia and Ukraine. Totally disappointed. Basically a delusional generic "we will impose our will on Russia" type of guy.

@ I noticed that! But the intriguing idea of a DMZ that would need policing will have to be led by the US in order to get traction, in my opinion. Cheers!
I respect Hanson analysis and watch him regularly but this time his assertion that Iran only hit 5 targets out of 500 missiles is factually incorrect. Videos and later satellite imagery have already confirmed that at least 12 hypersonic missiles out of around 150, not 500, went through and hit 5 military bases. On the other hand, there is no evidence based on satellite imagery that no more than one missile hit a military base in Iran. It has also been confirmed now that Israeli air strikes were supposed to consist of three waves, the initial being the one to take out air defenses, which failed and therefore the other two waves had to be called off. Why else would Israel use 100 fighter jets and bombers. There is also zero evidence of Israel having taken out any air defenses. What we have learnt here is that Iran can strike Israel and cause very serious damage despite the US and its British proxy shooting down their missiles. On the other hand, Israel has to go alone in Iran which it’s incapable of doing without US direct involvement which will not happen. The pentagon knows such an enterprise will open a Pandora’s box and American based in the region will be destroyed as will their naval assets which are sitting ducks. So Mr. Hanson’s assertion here is severely flawed and appears to be based on mainstream news propaganda. He should watch alternative media from time to time to learn the truth, can come handy when you are talking to people who know the truth.
In addition what the USA, UK and France could offer Zelinsky is a security guarantee similar to what the USA has with South Korea. Thus Russia would be faced with a Ukraine that is armed to the teeth, soon to be a member of the EU backed by a security guarantee from the three great nuclear powers.
Better do some serious homework if you don’t know. If you don’t know you likely won’t like or believe the answer. Hint, it can be found in the bible or the world of Eschatology.
The "facts" in this interview are quite short of facts: Best independent estimates say during October attack Iran managed to hit Israeli Nevatim air base with 20-32 rockets, and Tel Nof base with a few rockets. This is far from ("5 or 6 that hit anything" as mentioned by Victor) Also during the Israeli attack on Iran they managed to hit directly one surface to air battery near Isfahan. Far from "taking the entire air defence system" (not even Israel claimed anything like that). If this war escalates, it's definitely not going to be short and decisive victory of any side but rather a long and bloody conflict.
Iran is clearly not a real player in that war. They are playing a walk on part pretending to be the villain. I really don’t understand what is going on, my initial thought for the main supplier and enabler for Oct was Turkey. It seems to me that Irans faux attacks have been there to keep them in the frame. What deals are being done behind these scenes…who knows. All I am sure of is there is no way we are bing presented with the reality of the situation.
It's pure fantasy. Putin stated his conditions for even starting negotiations on the basis of Istanbul quite clearly. 1. Full Ukrainian withdrawal from the regions that are included in Russian constitution; 2. Recognition and acceptance from Ukraine that these regions are Russian; 3. Acceptance of Ukraine's neutral status. Istanbul also included restrictions on Ukrainian army armaments and a number of personnel. Russians categorically rejected any freeze of the conflict Korea-style. These conditions can get only tougher by the time. Even Trump wouldn't be able to accept these conditions explicitly without a coup attempt against him, but he could do it implicitly by cutting Ukraine's sustenance and turning the page.
@@zzip0 Realistically Trump has nothing meaningful to offer Putin. He's a president only for 4 years and US has a dismal record of sticking to any treaties or promises. To say nothing that it would be politically impossible for Trump to push through such a deal.
@@joshuapaul2022 Actually US kept strictly all their promises - when they were really promised, not imagined by the Russians. It is the Russians who get "creative" with their promises. But basically I predict the same - no deal.

I hope that Victor Davis Hanson’s suggestion of President Trump’s peace deal becomes reality for Ukraine.

What are you, two?
It is sick that these two sides have not been forced to make peace months and months ago. What a hateful waste of young men.
The defense contractors having making money hand over fist and business has been booming.
@@sd906238 I see no evidence of that.
Is Russia going to give back Manchuria, Kyril islands, South Ocetia, Abkazia ?
Not if they want to win an Olympics

True, far too much blood spilled. Never should have happened.
As usual the west ignored those results and even went after the independent reporters who
covered the referendums.
Had the west not staged a coup, helped ukraine bomb the donbass for 10 years and broke
agreement after agreement, would we be in this mess?
the only advantage Russia has is that Ukraine will run out of men to fight before they do. However. If the war continues for another year or two they will win but will no longer have the manpower to defend themselves or even occupy Ukraine.

Trump should say your violating the Budapest Memorandum that we both signed. I am by that agreement obligated to push you out of Ukraine. Actually it is possible to take back the Crimean Peninsula by preventing supplies from reaching it. That also can starve the corridor along the Sea of Azov.
Therefore, it should only be viewed as a declaration of intent by the Russian government at the time under Boris Yeltsin, but not as binding under international law."
(Very importantly, Mr. Putin was not in office at the time.)
"Regarding allegations by the government of Belarus that the United States was violating the memorandum, the U.S. Embassy in Minsk announced in a press release in April 2013 that the United States took its commitments to Belarus seriously, although the memorandum was not legally binding. In an interview in November 2020, German Ambassador to Kiev Anka Feldhusen stated that the memorandum was nothing more than a political declaration and not an international treaty."
You can find this nice summary in German Wikipedia.
Tell the Europeans to assume their responsibilities and issue Ukraine Victory Bonds. All kinds of entities large and small will buy. They can even pressure the wealthy defense companies like Rhine Metals, D’Assault, Saab, etc. to issue bonds for the same purpose. Maybe even Japanese and Korean arms companies will issue some. There is no way Russia can compete on this scale 💪💪
This eliminate US handouts. Combined EU economies is bigger than ours. They have to be willing to fund their own defense. Plenty of ways to do it 🥹🥹
People like to think in terms of fixed realities.

Jesus said,” I have not come to abolish, but to fulfill “ Mathew 5.17,emphasis added
So what do they mean if they are not abolished but fulfilled in Jesus’ life & death?
Proverbs 23.22

@@JayJay-vb7om Before 2016 NK did not have warhead size nuke. It happened in Sept 2016. This was the reason for the 2017-2018 North Korea crisis
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017%E2%80%932018_North_Korea_crisis
In fact Trump capitulated to NK getting nuclear weapons. His negotiation strategy failed.
Since then NK has probably produced at least 50 warheads.
That'd be a good deal for Ukraine but I think Hansen's being too optimistic. Russia will insist on keeping all the territory it now holds.
all talk at the moment, we will see
5:29, WHAT!?! This type of delusion can be pretext for a worse war, by the way.
russia is degrading hence the desperate move with North Korea. At the current rate of losses would be facing a 1917 style revolution.
@@michaeltaylor6907 I bet your thinking into the Korean troop idea too much. When are you people going to realize that you have zero reliable barometer on Russian losses? I would be more likely to believe these arguments if they didn't sound exactly like war propaganda.
Putin is a terrorist. The Ukrainians deserve much better.
"Why would Russia feel it needs to give back 80,000 sq km of land?" Putin's invasion of Ukraine and his attempt to destroy Ukraine's independence were wrong and a violation of treaties and international law, and has made Russia a pariah nation and Putin a war criminal. If Putin doesn't give it up, he will remain isolated and his economy will collapse.
I thought Mr Hanson is more knowledgeable on the subject of Russia and Ukraine. Totally disappointed. Basically a delusional generic "we will impose our will on Russia" type of guy.
This guy doesn’t know anything. Military briefs Vs what’s in the news are two wildly different things. Trump will have a different policy once he hears those briefings
Russia is taken what they said will do and now is just fortifying it .This won.t change .Roman empire got it west part and that result was projected before the whole thing started.
be sure to checked back on January 21st to see the answer
RFK Jr. is a great man, even back when he was a democrat! He must be happy to have gotten out of there! He has a powerful and creative mind.
We’re not going to interfere in your internal affairs. Oh boy hogwash the US interferes and everybody else’s affairs. but then this is just Victor’s opinion which I highly respect, but I still see the holes in it
Crimea will not happen because of threat to shipping. This will be a no go.
Trump is American strength, anti-war
implifications?
When iran did do something, it was usa that defended Israel,. They themselves alone can't,. The day usa decides to leave them to do it themselves they wont be able to
I trust Scott Ritter and Cols MacGregor and Wilkerson over VDH
Putin agitprop channels.
You bet...Bongino for director!
Peace and Putin.
How many opposites can we put together?
God please helps a president trump, on this kinda of problems,
These guys are already behind the curve, Trump already said that it was complicated then he thought. You would have thought these two would have figured that out before Trump did.

Russians would be biggest fool if they agree peace and west arms Ukraine as said
A DMZ in Ukraine? So regardless there will be a enduring US military engagement there like Korea or the IGB?
Europeans have armies too, you know? He will make them use them.
Even 12/150 is a very bad ratio
You obviously hate isreal
What tf this guy smoking? Crimea bekongs to Russia???
He is misinformed on that.
If Iran loses their production capacity the Saudis will too...
In addition what the USA, UK and France could offer Zelinsky is a security guarantee similar to what the USA has with South Korea. Thus Russia would be faced with a Ukraine that is armed to the teeth, soon to be a member of the EU backed by a security guarantee from the three great nuclear powers.
Why do we care so much about Israel?
Better do some serious homework if you don’t know. If you don’t know you likely won’t like or believe the answer. Hint, it can be found in the bible or the world of Eschatology.

@ yeah, a subtle way of putting it.
The "facts" in this interview are quite short of facts:
Best independent estimates say during October attack Iran managed to hit Israeli Nevatim air base with 20-32 rockets, and Tel Nof base with a few rockets.
Didn't he say capable of taking out their air defence system?
Iran is clearly not a real player in that war. They are playing a walk on part pretending to be the villain. I really don’t understand what is going on, my initial thought for the main supplier and enabler for Oct was Turkey. It seems to me that Irans faux attacks have been there to keep them in the frame. What deals are being done behind these scenes…who knows. All I am sure of is there is no way we are bing presented with the reality of the situation.
@allananderson949 he said "they have demonstrated they can take out entire air defence system" by destroying a single battery? Is that a fact?
So basically there will be no deal.
No way.
VDH and Tucker are the only podcasters I trust.
perhaps broaden your scope, there’s plenty more with equal credibility
I also watch Taibbi and Walter Kirn, they are delightful, and I watch Glenn Greenwald,
You mean the same Tucker that interviewed Poo10 and not once questioned his B.S.?
You should not believe Victor David Hansen on this one because he doesn't know what he's talking about. Russia is not gonna give up the Donbass. They're not gonna give up any of the territory they've taken. Ukraine will never join NATO ever.
It's an interview, not Jerry Springer. Tim Dillion beats everyone.
Short and to the point....
What utter BS

I am deeply concerned about Biden's decision to allow Ukraine to hit Russia on their homeland, this is a decision that will come with massive consequence. North Korea is more than happy to send more cannon fodder to the front. All these wars need to end, I'm praying that Trump can make an impact for peace.
Just wait until Trump takes out the wand.
Does NATO respond to the USA?? Turkey?
Let's hope trump does a miracle
But where are the clowns
