1 Gig AT&T Fiber Internet Installation

- Fiber Internet is the newest improvement in the technology world, allowing for consumers to surf and work from home at speeds, only available to businesses. But with At&t Fiber service, households can get up to 5 gig connection!
I opted to sign up for the 1 Gig which is a symmetrical connection, meaning 1 gig up and 1 gig down!
Check out my follow, 2024 Video on AT&T FIber: • How is 1 Gig AT&T Fibe...

Hello everyone! I just uploaded a followup video to this video, How is AT&T Fiber in 2024, Check it out! ua-cam.com/video/moKi_XpTHbQ/v-deo.htmlsi=UvVEeG9FAF0YfH_V
Informative, concise, no filler, no absurd intro music/graphics, hopefully more youtubers follow your approach
Moving to GA tomorrow. Have the AT&T tech suppose to come out right after, can't wait
I got this install to my home I just purchased. I got the same modem.
Thank you @How. My ATT Fiber outside fiber optic cable system uses above ground fiber optic cables attached to the utility poles behind my house. However, it should be better than Spectrum... I mentioned this because not all fiber optic cables are burried. Only newer Titusville Florida neighborhoods have buried fiber optic cables.
I can see that, especially in older neighborhoods. And yes fiber is Soo much better than AT&T
No slack nid, need fiber jumper or IW going into your house. Now when it’s cut another techs going to have to re do it all
Where is the NID??
Thanks for the video!
Which gateway did they provide for your Internet 1000 (1 Gig)? TIA for your reply.
Humax BGW320-500. Would you like to see a more in depth video about the hardware?
@@how2374 That would be awesome - thanks!
I’d hate to get this repair 😅
Bruh I’d be mad af I would ucustomer the tech and call him this shit trash
Shitty install 😂
I know right. I hate when techs don’t do the simple stuff that helps everyone out later.
Can you explain why?
@@MarioSays713drop just goes straight into the wall, not even a service loop, no termination box. If that drop gets hit by a string trimmer (since he didnt bury the bottom of that conduit) the next tech is gonna have to pretty much do a full install on a 45 min repair ticket lol
Thinking about having fiber installed at my house and it’s understandable digging to bury the wire because you have grass all over but my neighborhood is literally all concrete…wonder how’d they’d work that out..
They’d bore it
They have channels to run cable. They plan all this stuff out!
had att fiber and canceled it a few months back to get spectrum . BIG mistake. spectrum is TRASH. like coax cable just can not compare to FIBER. reordering att fiber and getting 2 GIG, do I need that much speed? prob not but its way better and cheaper than spectrums "1 Gig" service. cant wait to get it back.
yeah you was def trippin i’m about to get at&t fiber monday plus bro only like 35% of usa has it available
and i’m getting 2gigs with the fiber plan by at&t also my friend has 1 gig and i wanted to see if the ping would be better if i got 2gigs i will update you when i get it for sure or if anyone else has questions about it
Tomorrow making AT&at comes out to install my Fiber 1Gig. Bro you think i made a good choice. I’m leaving spectrums 1Gig. Spectrum ALWAYS has outages. it’s a waste of money/quality.
@@HenryLee0 bro you made an amazing choice. att fiber has virtually no lag. low latency. no downtime. equal upload and download speeds.
@@morganboy0ify Bro you have to admit Spectrum ALWAYS has outages. 😂 they don’t guarantee connection
Good vid! So how does the fiber cable connect to your pc? Did you have to install a converter or something?
Fiber connects to modem not devices
No consumer-level computer or other network device has a fiber port. Unless things have changed, AT&T runs fiber to your house. They install an ONT (optical network terminal) somewhere on the side of your house or a garage. This ONT is where the fiber enters the house. From the ONT, they run an ethernet cable from the ONT to your AT&T gateway. That gateway in turn gives you wifi and lets you plug in your network devices to the router with an ethernet cable.
@@JJFlores197 Can you still use old Linksys Wireless-G routers bridged to the new fiber modems? The WiFi on the ISP supplied modems is always dogshit.
@@MrWolfSnack I haven't had AT&T in almost 5 years so I don't know what's changed. I do know there's no bridge mode on the AT&T U-Verse/fiber internet gateway things. The closest you can get is IP passthrough. That's how I did my setup when I had AT&T before I moved to Xfinity.
@@JJFlores197 Yeah that might be it, on DSL on my Speedstream it was called bridge mode. Maybe they changed the terminology. I'll have to look into it more.
Did this for 6 years. A clean, good working install. However an incorrect one. Multiple steps skipped, including the NID test point on the outside of your house. Your supposed to have a box covering everything there as a way of keeping extra slack and a test point for future techs. Good thing a manager didn’t come out and see that, he most likely would’ve had to redo everything.
Ironically a manager was there but something told me he didn't know what he was doing either.
Thus far, no issues.
Sometimes there were shortages of NIDs funny enough but you’re suppose create a loop of slack just in case it does need to be serviced.
@@how2374 😂
you don’t need a slack nid anymore when you bury both sides. he should of coiled slack up at the house though. but at&t doesn’t require slack bud when cutover not required
@@how2374 did u had Comcast (xfinity ) before? How u campare to att ?
No slack nid, drop is shotgunned into home😂
June 7, 2023 - UPDATE **** 9 months after installation, I will be posting an update, with the PROs and CONs!

What are your actual speeds up & down ?
About 950/950 due to latancy.
if that black cable was cut because it is not buried deep enough, does att have to replace the whole black cable or they can just slice it and replace part of it?
A new cable is ran. A splice would get damaged by the elements the moment the technician leaves due the fibre being exposed once the protective sheathing is stripped. Splices are only done at termination points such as the slack nid, fibre jack or terminal.
Does AT&T charge a fee for installation? I wanna get fiber at my house but was wondering if it would cost anything to have them come out and install it.
Nope, no equipment fee, no installation charge and it is straightforward pricing!
Nope, no additional charges
Hi, did you put a request in for them to come and install the fiber? I’m trying to get fiber as well but no feed back.
Yes, I called their sales center, and signed up, they will schedule the install. Google At&t Fiber, and go to att's site, it will give you a phone number to call.
@@how2374 thank you so much!
Let me know if there is something further I can assist with?
@@shanteram4170 check your availability. My area didn't have fiber until early this year. I'm literally getting mine installed right now 2 days before the new year. I've been waiting for 3 years for it to be available in my area. The technician guy is installing mine right now lol
@@IsaganiPumardid you have to pay for the installation? If so how much?
With Verizon, no need to bury cable under backyard soil.
Thats an aerial fiber line, not for in ground
How deep did they bury the line?
they usually bury it about 4-5 feet
6 inch's at most
He did not do your installation correctly. No slack nid. No fiber iw was used. No service loop just goes straight in. SMH. The next tech gona be pissed when there is a repair. Fiber needs to be inside slack nid and broken down with slack so the tech tech doesn’t have to re run the whole line
Yep, I saw the same thing
@johnstandley9482 Hello, I read your comment when you first left it, but today, I really READ it...And you are absolutely CORRECT.
However, I have ended service with AT&T Fiber.
After 3 service techs, no one was able to figure out the issue!
@@how2374 What issues were you having? I'm thinking about ditching coax for Att fiber.
@@chasen432at first everything was great. Uploading using AT&T Fiber was great.
My setup was a bit unique. I use the connection in Passthrough mode. That stopped working after a major storm moved through my area.
Because that feature stopped I could access some resources and equipment for work.
Spent almost 2 months trying to get AT&T to fix the issue but ultimately had to switch back to Spectrum.
But I’m back now, after 2 years !!
And this time I kept Spectrum as well.
@@how2374 So now you have both Coax and Fiber at the same time? I've been with Cox communications for 17yrs and tired of them always raising the price and fluctuating speeds and poor upload speeds. I have gigablast 1000down but a measly 35upload. They are doing "Hybrid Fiber" but thats not true FTTP and a cheap move to not fully invest on Fiber or I'd just stick with my current provider. I can go from $139 a month to $75 at ATT. Or for a little more get the 1000down and 1000up. Also would be back to having unlimited data in my house like I use to have years ago before my current company switched up its internet plans and introduced data caps unless you wanna spend and extra $50+ for unlimited data. Data caps on house internet is a crime imo. Its not mobile internet. Another reason I wanna ditch Cox Communications. But Att isnt any better in comparison but every where I read on reddit or UA-cam that say if Fiber is available in your area TAKE IT and hardly see anyone that has issues with their service with ATT fiber internet.
How do u lawnmower without running over the Fiber Cable 😱
The cable is going to be buried
Since they're going to tear up the yard during burying, it doesn't really matter if it's cut or not. 😊
The black fiber cable plastic made out of soy good enough for squirrels & rodents.
What state is this
I am in Georgia.
Canada
Ah, I do not know if AT&T is in Canada - I do not think so...
@@how2374 It isn't. AT&T Canada is now called Allstream. In Ontario, Canada and I'm assuming most if not all of Canada, you would never be allowed to leave a wire on the ground like that. This is the second video I have seen with this practice. The first one was near or in NY.
It would have gone to the light post and hung to the eaves trough and then down to the entry point. A second fiber would have been buried, connected and tested before the temporary one was removed. Nobody would come and bury it fast enough to be safe. Fast enough would have to be that day or the next morning. You cannot dig without locates.
@@Todd.T I agree this practice is not the best, but the only hazard with fiber laying on turf is tripping. It is powerless and nonconductive.
Looks like coax instead of fiber...
This install will get you fired if they do a quality
You ain't lying crappy install
@@MarioSays713 been there, worked there, there are lazy people and people who do things proper
🤣 maybe he didn’t have any slack nids
@@michaelharris7425 lol
No it won’t 😂
He used the wrong color spray paint 😂😂
Wow! that's a pretty janky looking install! I used to do cable and that would be completely unacceptable!!
Agreed!
I will be doing a follow up!
yeah he gonna get a bad quality. no nid, and at the handhold he didn’t dig the wire in so the fiber gonna get broken by the lid
AT&T did send a separate crew to bury the fiber
that was a horrible install job
That is terrible.
Most of the people in your comment section are technicians, what they are saying is true. This installation is God awful.
Fucking party
