I've said it before and will continue to say it, thanks for uploading this content to youtube. I love you for it.
Goddamn people. I know what go mode means. I understand how this works, im here almost everyday as well, and i have been playing these games longer than most of you have been alive. As you see, my guesses arent any better.
Ok grandpa settle down.
sir this is a mcdonald’s
Bet I'm older then you lol
Bruh, most of us have been alive longer than SM3 has been out.
UA-cam commenters replying when they still didn't watch the video. Zzzz...
this was a very interesting video, I like that the discussion at the end was kept in. the whole thing is educational for those of us that don't do map randos much
People really gotta remember that playing these in the moment, looking at blank maps for each new area, there really is no way of knowing what an area is going to contain. The only knowledge you can possibly have is what it *can't* contain, based on what you've already done/seen. There isn't really any 'wrong' choice about which way to go at a fork until you start bringing hindsight into the conversation, which is completely irrelevant to running a race.
Spoilers:
I don't think the majority of the time loss was on the Maridia decision, I think what it was was leaving Brinstar so early, which caused a huge backtrack to go back to get Phantoon. I could be wrong but at 23:50 when you leave Brinstar I don't think you're missing anything you needed to get to the map station, so you had to spend over 9 minutes in a backtrack.
I agree i was thinking hed go get map real quick when he got space jump that seemed to be the best play since he was already by brinstar map
Not to mention the route to backtrack to Brinstar was atrocious
I had the same feeling that Eddie explained - Frog Speedway gave a *much* better feeling of momentum towards the map station. It's not a logical thing, just a gut reaction to that room. I think Oats' logic was sound, and probably the better percentage play - just worked out not to be correct this time.
In my opinion, it was a pure 50/50 gamble on whether Maridia or Tourian was the answer
These races are so entertaining, appreciate the content so much. I've been streaming them trying the same settings and boy short charges are the death of me, killed so many runs lol 😂
Now that's a promising title.
I think the time spent grabbing those power bombs in the beginning and not doubling back for the map when you got space were the nails in the coffin. I'm by no means anywhere near the level you guys racing are, but to me aside from those two things it looked like you played clean and smooth to me.
Power bombs vs. Logic Maps/Intuition?
@@johnrichardson3297 All I do is watch vids. I don't have the skill to run like any of the racers do. So I don't know what the thought process is for what's being prioritized. I'm just one dude that doesn't have a leg in the race giving my two cents
Reaching Mother Brain with 20+ minutes left is very concerning.
this video should be renamed "Salty Oats"
Tourien was a straight line to the map, maridia was not. Me watching thought instantly it would be best to go back to Tourien when I saw maridia map, your rational was solid though. Maybe a instance of thinking too much, you could've thought going into maridia was better since you were already there and it would be fine as well. If maridia had the bosses you would've won, that's all
This is really all there is to it. It was a coin flip.
The norfair side hoppers are actually called dessgeegas.
I thought they were called Ligma.
@@Super_Ammo Ligma what??
Pulling out the nerd glasses here, in terms of distance if maridia map is 15 tiles right and 10 down, that's a distance of about 18.02775 tiles directly, and tourian is 17 tiles right and 1 up then that's a distance of about 17.02938. That means that they would be different by one tile, which is smaller than most rooms. Tourian is closer but not by enough to justify the decision over maridia.
Tourian is actually 25/1 to Maridia's 15/10, but the nature of SM's room layouts makes taxicab distance and potential traversable volume the more important metrics--Maridia then becomes a "minimum" taxicab distance of 29 tiles (2 tiles out/2 tiles back to get to the same X-tile coordinate of the entrance, then the same 25 to the map) but the **huge** 9-tile net Y-distance between Tourian and Maridia's maps means that Maridia has **much** more potential volume to traverse, especially if (as ended up being the case here) Alcatraz entrance ends up being a dead end.
When factoring in that 8 tiles of Tourian's lower entrance is frog speedway (in the direction of the map), and that based on the rooms seen so far it is unlikely that much vertical traversal will be necessary to reach the map, it is likely much faster to grab Tourian's map than Maridia's and therefore *if* Tourian is empty, it's likely much less of a backtrack to Maridia than vice-versa.
But all of that explanation, in the 20s it took Oats to check both entrances, ultimately boils down to logic vs vibes. Oats chose to make a decision based on minimization of potential timeloss (but that is itself a gamble because if his logic is *wrong*; it's *really* wrong); Eddie and the others made a decision based on vibes (which IMO corresponded to minimizing time of acquisition of information.)
Title on point lmao.
The only thing I can think is Tourian is a smaller area, so it would be faster to rule things out.
And when I say smaller, I mean I thought logic made Tourian the second smallest.
It would be neat if supers couldn't open standard missile doors, as it would give a purpose to collecting normal missiles other than just as ammo, as well as add some more logic.
I wonder if the idea if mirroring/flipping rooms would be a thing for the Randomizer to be capable of doing to add extra challenge?
Haven't seen oats this salty in a minute! That competitive spirit of his, when he has a rational reason for picking Maridia and everyone else chooses Tourian and by luck it turns out that he's wrong and they're right...lol, plus philbert and that "cut your losses" dude egging him on. Poor oas... 😂
I would've picked Tourian myself because Tourian is smaller in logic than Maridia so if it's a bust there is less time lost. But I'm a very amateur player, so take it with a grain of oat salt.
Hey, what’s that map tile with the rocket ship symbol? There was a room with that in the top left of big pink.
Ammo refill. When it is combined with health, it will show the +, but ammo alone will show the missile.
QOL indicator for the ammo refill room.
@@NrgSpoon thanks! It was driving me crazy
OMG oaaaas, babyseed super missles before 5 minutes >:(
How comes that when i chose 'medium difficulty' seed, i get less items than Otz at the start? Looks sus to me
oats did you know that i
that i..
have a crush on you? 👉🏻👈🏻
