I'm very excited to see my short film premiere on DUST! It was a lot of fun to put this together and it's felt like a journey in itself. I hope everyone enjoys! :)
Ithink its linked to the film called Europa report where the predecessors landed on the moon Europa and encountered life beneath the moons icy shell which they all succumbed to in the end. It was a good film.
I'm very humbled and appreciative of people watching this film; thank you for all the great feedback! And to hear it's connected with people on a personal level, is exciting. For those who have issues following the plot, I can only suggest watching the entire film from start to finish, with the sound. On the surface, the narrative is straight forward; man left on the moon himself, on the verge of giving up, until he makes a discovery that gives him and the mission a glimmer of hope. The story goes deeper, for those who want to watch and listen more closely. Everything is considered; The computer screens, the props, the recording etc. All in aid of the story. Even John's behaviour is an exploration into trauma and loneliness. I appreciate this isn't going to land with some people and that's totally fine; it's all subjective at the end of the day. But it's certainly not just a visual showcase. Thank you again, I appreciate any and all engagement :)
I picked up on a lot of the small details and really appreciated their inclusion once I realized they were happening. I'll probably give it another watch or two to make sure I didn't miss anything. Also, nice work with the music. I hope you have more projects planned.
The film has potential as following along the lines of: "2001, A Space Odyssey", but falls short in it's cohesive sequential storyline... encouragement to the team putting this together to go with further refinements.
I really like the animation in this Sci-Fi short. The overall visual aesthetic matched well with the subject matter. So on that front, job Ross and Team! I will say that, although there are enough bread crumbs to allow the viewer to piece together what was going on, I came away at the end feeling as if I didn't have all of the pertinent details to truly inform my understanding of what was supposed to be happening/or had happened, on Europa with this mission. After reading the synopsis in the video description, I have a newfound respect and appreciation towards this project's scope and ambition with regards to the story it is trying to tell. This little gem is getting added to my favorites.
Reminds me of my lecture once said: If your goal is of a narrative story but failed to bring the audience into it, then they often will start holding on to other things like how good the technical parts are like visual and audio since those elements are easily taking over and the audience want to find something to make sense of
Special effects, set design, and costume design all high marks. Plot unclear. Doesn't have to be crystal clear, just more structured, and easier to follow.
here is a plot you can understand - when I was fresh into college I was renting a trailer and next door was two teachers who were renting that trailer - so one morning - a cold morning I opened my door to get to an early class and I heard a banging on the window from the two teacher trailer and I looked over and both of them had their pants down with their butt cheeks pressed against the window - and they didn't turn around but both of them had their hands waving at me - the rest of the day was pretty unremarkable - so of course I was drawn to a vid 43 years later called "many moons" my short would be better understood - but your short was worth it.
This looks great but I had very little idea what was going on. He was alone and wouldn't answer anyone, for some reason. People died somewhere because something they built had a negative affect. They came looking for him and uploaded his mind??
Wow, what an epic background score. I usually don't prefer watching animated movies/videos, but this score made me do it, at the instant I heard it. Wow again.
Excellent work. Had me hooked from the start. Fantastic visuals and interesting storyline. It would be great if it was picked up and developed into a long movie. Thank you so much for sharing. Look forward to seeing more of your brilliant work.
Cool! A thought: old style film effects, like the tiny scratches and clutter, doesn't fit with even an old video of that technology. If it is old and data scrambled/missing - then there might be static type effects. But old style film dots and scratches are a bit silly here!
this was visually stunning and the sound effects was spot on, but the plot its self was weak and pretty loose. It was honestly hard to understand easily getting lost in translation. Overall this short film is good if you don't care about understanding the plot
He found the water and life that Leland's crew had died trying to find. It was for them. To have accomplished that in the face of such horrors is a beautiful thing.
Agree with many other comments here: gorgeous visuals and music, plot too difficult to follow. Not saying you have to explain everything, but do explain some.
I'm not sure of what happened when the oprator said she is sorry. Did she abandon John after he made the discovery of water and possible life on Jupiter moon, or she was sorry for being unable to help and the truck going back without him was simply a coincidence?
the problem is that radiation is so huge on Jupiter's moons that you would get a lethal dose in 1 minute so you cannot walk on Europa. The only moon you can walk on is Callisto, and maybe Ganymede which has a protective shield but still radiation level high but limited exposure possible
Well outside the Goldilocks zone too. Why would anyone want to inhabit the place and the answer can only be a politician that gets donations from the space exploration and terraforming industries.
Was it the Poseidon's intent to just lose John on his goose chase to investigate what had happened or whether there were possibilities for life on Europa? I liked the film, but I don't believe I understood John's mission and whether his base wanted him to achieve it.
Too bad there was not more communication between 'John' and the other StarCraft. Well put together as far as CGI. We as a species are 100 years away from any such adventure within the Cosmos of the Terran Star. Thank you for the imaginary travel. _____ Christ is King. ✝️ _____
@@rosssneddon1873Still doesn't make a whole lot of sense, though. A lot of what Dust presents seem to be proof of concept or trailers for non-existent films. I don't watch Dust that often these days because of that.
@@mykelevangelista6492Look what happens. Terrible moon surface, tremendous risk, the loss of a whole crew, a sense of painful sacrifice and apparently disturbingly futile... And yet beautiful triumph is grabbed from the jaws of utter disaster. John in his stoic perseverance finds what they are looking for.
this one made less sense than many others. special effects or cgi were good, but a real story line would help even though most of the films on dust end without an ending. they just stop. but i still enjoy most of them. I'll keep watching and hoping someone will put one on that makes sense and has a true ending that makes sense. Hope springs eternal. Or i am stubborn to a fault.
I have found two types of videos on Dust. The first as you described, like teasers, just as far as they could go with the resources available. But there are plenty with full stories, some even with recognizable actors.
True and many of the stories are really good. I am constantly surprised at the actors i see in some of their mini movies. I keep returning to them and i am subscribed. There are many talented people out there and this site really allows them to show their talents and share them with we less talented. So thank you all.@@bjb7587
Wonderful acting and effects. However as noted by others the plot is weak and confusing. Some sequences of action are confusing and blurred, reminding me of the use of unrecognizable motion and objects in films in which fight scenes and violence are a jumble because that was the 'easy' way to get around showing what was happening.
? A common theme of the loneliness of space. Were his coms out? Is that why he didn't answer her? Or was he planning on suicide until he found water and life and the changed his mind but too late?

That's so cool 😎!! I wish I could do something like that 😔
I am afraid that I did not understand the "plot". But the images and special effects are quite impressive.
There is no plot. 'Dust' is as empty as space.

Exploring a moon and he lost comms. Walked all the way back and he was left behind. I guessing here so take it or not.

A case where the production values far, far exceeded the writing skill. Gorgeous to watch (and listen to), but a baffling, nonlinear plot.
