The horns crescendo kick this song off right! Great vocals and guitar by the late Terry Kath!!! Legendary horns section, drums overall instrumentation!!
Definitely my favorite song of theirs. Hard to believe it's 51 years old. I dig a fast paced song like this, takes my mind off of everyday troubles. 1970 was a great year for music.
Chicago is something special.So much to offer us music lovers.Terry Kath .Phenominal vocals.What a guitar solo. Can't deny the drummer and that brsss section.They give us a little of everything.E n j o y a b l e.
Jimi Hendrix said he wished he could lay like Chicago guitarist Terry Kath-the late Terry Kath ! Thank you for appreciation ! We’ve been listening to Chicago since the late 60’s /70’s ! They are amazing
RIP Terry Kath. This was on one of the Chicago albums I had as a teen. It was recorded in quadrophonic, and was best listened to in a room with 4 speakers. The talent this group had is really amazing! Such spectacular sounds from 1970 at the same time the Beatles were pumping out their tunes. A real contrast!
Incredibly talented group! Rip Terry Kath 🙏 they have some powerful classics Jayy - "color my world" is a whole other "love vibe" from them 💕 a live performance would allow you to see the numerous instruments they mastered .
These guys are great musicians - love the brass solo - some of the most beautiful put together notes I have ever heard! Give up for the trombone, sax, and trumpet!
Make Me Smile is part of a larger suite called Ballet For A Girl From Buchannon. It includes 1) Make Me Smile, 2) So Much To Say, So Much To Give, 3) Anxieties Moment, 4) West Virginia Fantasies, 5) Colour My World, 6) To Be Free, 7) Now More Than Ever. Too bad you only played the one song, which is also reprised at the end of the suite in the coda, Now More Than Ever. Playing the collection together is better if you have 14 minutes.
Thank You. It's funny. The way I remember it was that there was a short version for AM radio and a little longer one that include more of the end for FM radio.
Early Chicago had a great horn section, amazing drummer, great bass player, and the greatest guitarist ever in Terry Kath. He was lead vocalist in this one from the early years. Can't beat it.
Chicago 1973 Saturday In The Park&Does Anybody Know What Time It Is @ Rock n Roll Archive 2 is a must see. It's when they rented a big cabin in Colorado to work on their next album and decided to have a BBQ for neighbors along with performing these songs!!😀🎉
What you heard was actually two songs spliced together by Columbia Records to make a radio single. The opening portion up to and through the guitar solo is "Make Me Smile" and the second part is "Now More Than Ever". Those tracks were the opening and closing of a seven movement suite titled "Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon", written by Chicago's trombone player James Pankow for Chicago's second album. The middle of that suite also features Terry Kath's soulful voice on another instantly recognized Chicago hit, "Colour My World". If you can, you should listen to the entire suite in sequence as it flows through many tempo changes, has some instrumental tracks, and each of the seven band members gets to shine. Terry Kath's guitar playing and soulful baritone voice were truly a gift to the musical world that could never be replaced.
Not going to say anything that hasn't already been said about Early Chicago Just going to suggest you check out "I'm a Man " (a remake of a Spencer Davis group song), and "Beginnings "!! Can't go wrong!! Thanks SOOOOOO much for reacting to this Classic tune!!
This is from Songfacts: This song was written by James Pankow, a founding member of Chicago whose primary instrument is the trombone. What made him smile was the thought of a beautiful relationship. In a Songfacts interview with Pankow, he explained: "Relationships, if they're good, put a big smile on our faces. Love songs have always been a powerful ingredient in the song's process - the songwriting process has often taken writers to that place."
Terry Kath Color My World 🌍, Yes 💯👍🤗J, your expression at the end with the instrumental was the price of signing up for your reactions keep them coming.🤗🤗👍💯💯💕
That sound of the music alternating between your ears, when you have headphones on , is a recording method called "panning". A good sound engineer will create that audio imaging on purpose.
I was surprised to hear on the radio at Walmart today the Chicago song from their 1st album (Questions 67 & 68). Nobody talks about that one but it was one but it really showcased Peter's vocal range and in the studio version Terry's guitar. I do not like the live version. The band went from a hard rock edge to power ballads and there are many hits. Most notable is the one they did with the Fantastic back up harmonies of the Beach Boys called ("Wishing You Were Here.") There is a live version from the (New Years Rockin' Eve Chicago) TV special.
Hi Jayy, Great reaction, you made me smile!!! Please react to this other Chicago classic song titled: "CALL ON ME" it is another vibe you will love & appreciate!!!
Hendrix no doubt said Terry was one of his favorite guitar players . Let’s you know how long Chicago has been around . They had a much longer name though way back then
Correction, best guitarist in the universe :) When first hearing Terry Kath play, Jimi Hendrix was quoted as saying that he thought Terry Kath played guitar better than he did. It was later on reported that Jimi Hendrix also called Terry Kath the “Best Guitarist in the Universe.”
Jayy ,can you do two others Chicago Transit Authority, yes I go by there original name moniker. Here they go, Color My World, and Wishing you were Here. Also three more different ones, Walter Murphy and Big Apple 🍎 Band A Fifth of Bethoven. Eddie Rabbit Suspicions. Chicago Transit Authority, No Tell Lover. BTO Blue Collar. Looking out for number 1. Light house Pretty Lady. Somebody Knocking Terry Gibbs. Whew.
This music took time, patience, thinking (as in deliberate, not reactive), musicianship, and many other qualities lacking in those who produce the junk they call music today...
you went back to watch a live version of 25 or 6 to 4 live hears the live version of this at the same 1970 concert ua-cam.com/video/Btq4MnwvQgM/v-deo.html ...so you done a Pete Cetera song a Terry Kath song now you just need a Robert Lamm song
NOOOOOO - That is not the whole song. and you should go back to Tanglewood. The real name is "Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon" and it's 14 minutes long. Did you notice the jump toward the end of the song when it went from Make Me Smile and jumped to Now More Than Ever at the end? The band had no idea that the record company would cut and paste it the way they did. The company made 2 hit singles out of it. The problem was in 1970 cars came standard with AM radio so AM radio was King and they didn't play anything over 3 minutes long. - Copied and pasted the names of the sections from another comment - " 1) Make Me Smile, 2) So Much To Say, So Much To Give, 3) Anxieties Moment, 4) West Virginia Fantasies, 5) Colour My World, 6) To Be Free, 7) Now More Than Ever" Terry sings and plays it with the same passion you saw in 25 or 6 to 4. -- BE SURE - to get the 14 minute post because others have cut it in half. The 2 songs they made are Make me Smile and Colour my World. Before you saw Peter on bass singing , this time it is Terry with 3 parts and Robert on keyboards singing 1 part. I guarantee that you will love the colour my world part.
The horns crescendo kick this song off right! Great vocals and guitar by the late Terry Kath!!! Legendary horns section, drums overall instrumentation!!
Rip Terry Kath thanks for unbelievable talents you left us way too soon 🙏🎸
The guy singing is the same guy playing the amazing guitar solo! 👌👌👌
R.I.P. Terry Kath!
Terry was the vocalist on this one? WOW.... such a soulful voice....
They opened for Jimi Hendrix back in 68 and Hendrix told them "I am good but your guitarist is better then I am."!
Early Chicago was crazy like that. Check out 25 or 6 to 4 if you haven't already.
Definitely my favorite song of theirs. Hard to believe it's 51 years old. I dig a fast paced song like this, takes my mind off of everyday troubles. 1970 was a great year for music.
See why I loved the seventies? My favorite group back then!
Chicago is something special. So much to offer us music lovers.Terry Kath .Phenominal vocals. What a guitar solo.

A bunch of incredible musicians actually playing instruments and so very great at all them. Incredible.
"Feelin' Stronger Every Day" is another classic you HAVE to do.
These guys are great musicians - love the brass solo - some of the most beautiful put together notes I have ever heard! Give up for the trombone, sax, and trumpet!
Great reaction. Terry Kath was a genius - very unique guitar and soul in his voice. They have many hits, and other singers. Great horns!

In concert.... 1970 I believe
A tour de force! Kath's vocals! Guitar! The horns and drumming! Exciting, right up to the ending crescendo!
My favorite Chicago song. It takes you in so many places.
I also enjoyed the "Stank-Face" reaction you gave during Terry Kath's (R.I.P.) guitar solo, that was priceless!!!
Early Chicago had a great horn section, amazing drummer, great bass player, and the greatest guitarist ever in Terry Kath. He was lead vocalist in this one from the early years. Can't beat it.

Chicago is dope!
Trombone and trumpet, in stereo, shakers (percussion), guitars, drums, singing harmonies, like a celebration, for sure!
Terry Kath's voice was often referred to as "the white Ray Charles" - their voices were so similar. This song was written by the Trombone player.

I love your Snoopy top. He's my favorite! ❤️

Terry Kath…Voice of Ray Charles, guitar skills of Hendrix
Oh Chicago when Terry Kath was still alive was, maybe, THE best band ever. And those horns!!!
Check out "Color My World, featuring Terry Lath and Wishing You Were Here! Beautiful ballads!!
Chicago sounds so big it makes you feel stuff.
Songs by "Chicago" just make you feel real, damn good!!
Chicago is quite the rabbit hole ! dive deep my dear . Love you
Legends. Rest In Peace Terry
Sorry, New to you.. Fantastic song.
He died young and was the best lead singer for that group.

Love! Snoopy pj's! 😆
Terry Kath, plays like Jimi, sings like Ray.
Jimmy Hendrix was asked who was the greatest guitarist and he said Terry Kath( Enough said) Gone too young RIP ❤️🙏😢
Terry Kath: Ray Charles and Jimi rolled in to one!
Instrument wise you can just guess all of them, and you won't be right.
You looked like u wanted to enjoy this and held back..lol. F,u^k that. Just enjoy this awesome song..!
Hi Jayy, Great reaction, you made me smile!!! Please react to this other Chicago classic song titled: "CALL ON ME" it is another vibe you will love & appreciate!!!
One of my favorites 💯❤️❤️❤️. Try some FREEZE FRAME😁👍
You are....
fantastic...
Hendrix no doubt said Terry was one of his favorite guitar players . Let’s you know how long Chicago has been around . They had a much longer name though way back then
Jimi Hendrix once referred to Terry Kath as the best guitarist in the world. Now they are jamming in the sky.
If you think this is something, check out their sweetest ballard "If You Leave Me Now". It really tugs at the heartstrings.
They have so much more you need to react to.
You got SNOOPY !!.....😁❤️😁❤️
The late great Terry Kath. I still can not bring myself to watch the movie about his life. I would rather listen to it.
Jayy ,can you do two others Chicago Transit Authority, yes I go by there original name moniker. Here they go, Color My World, and Wishing you were Here. No your right the alternative harmonies are Heaven 💕💯👍
Music candy
Like the snoopy shirt
Terry Kath...just no one like him. soul baby
The Real Chicago, not the 1980's power ballad bury the horn sound Chicago. Try Dialogue Part 1 and 2....protest song...by Chicago, 1972
This music took time, patience, thinking (as in deliberate, not reactive), musicianship, and many other qualities lacking in those who produce the junk they call music today...
You don't need to apologize about not knowing all the instruments....few people do,...
To be able to sing, and play guitar like that. How would that be?
My favorite was I'm a Man
Terry Kath....the white version of Barry White....
He sounded a lot like ray Charles in my opinion!
☮️💙💙💙🔥
Now that was music. I have no idea how they can call the crap they put out today "music".... comparatively...
you went back to watch a live version of 25 or 6 to 4 live hears the live version of this at the same 1970 concert ua-cam.com/video/Btq4MnwvQgM/v-deo.html ...so you done a Pete Cetera song a Terry Kath song now you just need a Robert Lamm song
Cetera, Most underrated bass player in rock history
Nope.
@@gnomeofwar you must not listen to many bass players
i love you

Chicago was a bit hit back then
