Hi Don we are currently on the viking vela ship and are stuck in Alesund, norway..the storm was ferocious snd very scary, lots of damaged cabins and smashed glass. Crew havd been amazing.. We were confined to our cabins for 14 hours because it was unsafe to leave and guest areas were a mess, smashed glass everywhere...crew made sure were were fed breakfast and lunch, all prepared and delivered to our rooms in the middle of a raging storm, just exceptional...we were informed around 2 hours ago that we will be staying yet another night in ALesund because the weather is bad again.. our original itinerary has been scrapped completely and we are no longer heading north but instead going south where we will end in bergen on the 22nd Jan. They have scrapped the ports of Alta, Narvik and tromso and added flam, eidfjord and stavanger..so, we begin our 4th night in Alesund, hopeful of setting sale tomorrow at 2pm..
@lindabrown1362 Good luck to you, Linda. Praying it gets better for you. Been there done that. It'll all turn out fine in the end. Try and stay positive.
We just returned from a cruise on the Holland America Eurodam. It is easy for me to understand a norovirus out break on Holland America as the ship has no hand washing stations in the Buffet area. Yes NO HAND WASHING STATIONS IN THE BUFFET AREA. We had to go out of the buffet area and find rest room to wash our hands. Holland America did not seem very concerned about this fact when we pointed it out to them. The buffet is a combination of served and self served foods so passengers must handle utensils to access some of the food.
I was kind of shocked. We just Debarked on the 11th off of the Carnival Paradise. We did NOT have any hand sanitizing stations at the MDR. My wife and I utilized washing everywhere we went. Stay safe out there folks
Unfortunately, cruise ships are more susceptible to norovirus outbreaks than other venues. By the way, you can readily contract Norovirus just from eating contaminated food. Hence, its wrong to suggest that people only got Norovirus because they didn't wash their hands. Also, it more likely that norovirus outbreaks originated from crew personnel working in food services as opposed to passengers.
In November, we did a Northern Lights cruise to the top of Norway. Weather ended up being awful and the ship was trapped in Tromsø for an extra day. Most of the days at sea had dishes and glasses flying off the restaurant tables.
@jamieroberts900 The premise is still there. Everybody can wash their hands, but since it's in the food, it is irrelevant. Trust me i got it over and over again. I took every precaution until i stopped eating the fish and certain foods in the buffet
I think in the interest of profits cruise lines are taking ships into waters off season that are known to be violent. Just because a cruise goes somewhere in off season does not mean it is a good idea. I think they need to rethink some of these departures. Same with Med in Feb.
It isn't said enough! Alcohol/ hand sanitizer does NOT kill norovirus. Hydrogen peroxide is one of the things that kill it. H2O2 must be kept out of light sources (that's why they come in dark brown bottles) and they expire.
I know 2 people who got sick from a good restaurant on the weekend. It was the sea food. Is that considered Norovirus? You mentioned Vancouver so there you go. 😢
by the time you handle them taking them off to eat you would still need to go wash your hands again. Don says use hand sanitizer but it has been proven that does not work for this illness.
Oh how I wish you could get a return ticket from the UK to the USA for £200. However there is a way of getting cheap flights as long as you are careful and ALWAYS REPAY IN FULL. Get a credit card that offers flight miles as a reward for your spending. I now have enough earned in 2 years for 2 Premium Economy return flights from UK to USA. I pay for everything on the card get the points and always repay it in full each month. Never had any interest charges or any fees. Genuine big financial/transport company.

Now that was a great report. Thank you. The north Atlantic-- anything can happen.

Still can’t believe people aren’t washing their hands. Such an easy thing to do to avoid getting sick
I am glad that no one was injured during the storm during that rough voyage
Goodness, 35 ft seas would be so terrifying.

I love Roatan!!! Great place to be stranded. I would get transportation and head to West Bay and hangout at George's and the Bananarama
Fantastic Thursday 🎉
My step daughter was on carnival just last week. that had outbreak. She got it she said she was so sick.
In November, we did a Northern Lights cruise to the top of Norway. Weather ended up being awful and the ship was trapped in Tromsø for an extra day. Most of the days at sea had dishes and glasses flying off the restaurant tables.
Thanks Don
The University of Guelph, Ontario has an outbreak
I would be freaking out if I were on a shop in that kind of weather. 100mph winds, wow!
I’ve never been on a really small ship. Glad no one was hurt.
I’ll stay home, thank you. I have been watching these cruise channels to see if I think I would like it and it’s not for me.
WOW! What a storm. Imagine being caught in that storm 200 years ago in an 80 foot, wooden square rigger.
😂
@@shirleyscott8879 No...Not fun.
Right that must have been terrifying
Looking forward to my cruise in April. If we miss a stop I don’t care. Unless it the Panama Canal. It’s on my bucket list.
Regal is my favorite ship. Strange their sister ship isn’t having the same issues.
Happy Thursday everyone!
Yes a fire on board would make me paranoid too.
What a mix
Hi Don have an amazing day.
Haven't yet gone on a cruise. I enjoy having a VANtastic day. 🤪
Ugh, sailing on Regal princess in September. Hopefully issues will be resolved by then.
I expect as cruise ships are operated for longer periods of time, we will see more maintenance issues.
Norovirus is in the food. Doesn't matter how many times you wash your hands
Yes correct but if people don’t wash their hands that’s how norovirus is spread.
@jamieroberts900 The premise is still there. Everybody can wash their hands, but since it's in the food, it is irrelevant. Trust me i got it over and over again. I took every precaution until i stopped eating the fish and certain foods in the buffet
Even luxury cruisers are dirty. Washy washy.
The maintenance programs need to but adjusted if they want to keep the older ships running
They need to work on a vaccine for Novo virus. I came down with it on my honeymoon in 1972. It was unheard of back then.

never had any bad luck crusin so far
Soap and water.,...alcohol sprays dont work for noro
Dan, please let your viewers know that hand sanitizer does not kill Nora virus
The best defense is as you said handwashing
Yeah,ah... Dan?

Don, would you book the Regal now?
I know 2 people who got sick from a good restaurant on the weekend. It was the sea food. Is that considered Norovirus? You mentioned Vancouver so there you go. 😢
Washy washy!
I've been hearing a ton of bad reviews on Princess cruises Don!
What if I don’t drink? What compensation do I get?
Insurance.
It's mostly from the fruit 😮
Unpeeled fruit or cut up fruit?
Would wearing latex gloves in the buffet line (& removing them at my table) protect me?
by the time you handle them taking them off to eat you would still need to go wash your hands again. Don says use hand sanitizer but it has been proven that does not work for this illness.
This is January.
So You LAUGHT due to Cruisers losing Time on The
Cruise , I Don't see the HUMMER in that but Could be
Me ..
Can't trust mother Nature
pretty common knowledge this is not the season to be sailing those waters...bad decisions being made in the interest of profit.

DON’T CRUISE. Just don’t.
Wrong channel buddy! 🤣🤣🤣 Where did you come from??
