    In the 1980s, Costa Rica found itself faced with arguably its most terrifying monster in the shape of "El Psicópata" (or, in English, "The Psychopath"), a serial killer who would murder couples and even groups of people without hesitation. To this day, the identity of "The Psychopath" remains officially unidentified, with the chance of justice for these victims slipping further away. Learn about the story of "The Psychopath" with me in this edited down version of one of our live true crime breakdowns on Twitch.

    I subscribed and barely missed this. Hahaha been watching your vids. And I do also thank you for covering a Filipino Story of Corregidor (I'm a Filipino so I was glad someone did a comprehensive storytelling, quite proud ironically but thanks again). You did good, like even better! This content is indeed my breather and it may seem quite heavy to some but your videos are light to watch! More content Aria!

    As a Costa Rican, I remember being so scared of el psicópata when I was a little kid. As a country, we were not used to get this on the news.
    With the latest murderers, it is sad that the safety of homeless people and sex workers has never been top priority here, or anywhere else
    PS: your pronunciation of most places was good

    The murders of Rosario's family members and the other murders / attacks seemed like they were committed by two different people. Were police able to match the ammo used (in all of the cases) to each other?

    • @miraiholmes
      @miraiholmes 2 роки тому

      I think it was possibly same ammo but possibly from different people or same person, only ammo to identify cause of death

    • @Aria.Inthavong
      @Aria.Inthavong  2 роки тому +5

      Yes I'm inclined to agree with you that some of these murders could have been committed by other people. I don't know if the police were able to correctly match the ammo but I wouldn't be surprised if their forensic procedures weren't the best back in the 80s/90s either.

    El psicópata is a big big deal here in Costa Rica to this day. Documentaries and movies have been made about this case, there are also books. Very interesting case… it also gets political to certain degree. Nuts. My mom told me all about this case as this was happening when she was a teenager… as a Costa Rican, It is still scary even nowadays

    It's always the same, though. The poor are more dispensible than the middle class. The middle class are more dispensable than the rich. The sex workers are more disposable than those in supposedly "moral" jobs and addicts are more disposable than non-addicts. White, pretty girls and women always get more attention that BIPOC people, or less attractive ones. And the pandemic proved what disabled and chronically ill people have known all along, which is that society treats us as "less than" compared to well, abled people. Same for religious minorities, gender disparity, LGBTQIA people versus cis straight ones, etc. The idea that we have any kind of true equality (or equity) in our society just isn't how it works. Whether it's who gets the sympathy and publicity for a murder case, who gets the most thorough medical care, who gets the most lenient criminal penalties or charges, - you name it, there are disparities because inequality and privilege are systemic problems that are still a LONG way from being resolved.

    • @Aria.Inthavong
      @Aria.Inthavong  2 роки тому +2

      Very, very well said. And considering how far away from getting these systemic problems even close to being resolved here in the US, it's evening more disheartening to think about countries that are even further behind.

    FYI: if you're going to give a trigger warning, it is much more helpful if you say it at the beginning. Saying "trigger warning" right before saying the triggering thing is not useful. The theme is there between the words. You could just say "This video needs a trigger warning because of... Please click off of it if those themes are difficult for you." Then not say "trigger warning" right before saying the word itself throughout the video (although some people may prefer both).

    • @evelynvslife
      @evelynvslife 2 роки тому +2

      Honestly, anyone with triggers related to any sort of violence shouldn’t be watching these videos so the warning isn’t really necessary here.

    • @Aria.Inthavong
      @Aria.Inthavong  2 роки тому +3

      I appreciate the suggestion!

    • @JustAnotherBuckyLover
      @JustAnotherBuckyLover 2 роки тому +1

      @@evelynvslife That's not up to you to decide, though. Trigger warnings literally hurt nobody. Not all criminals commit the same crimes, and not all people are triggered by the same things or even the same thing on different days. It feels very weird that you want to gatekeep something like that. Honestly, complaining about trigger warnings is akin to complaining about putting subtitles; pointless and kinda ableist.

    • @evelynvslife
      @evelynvslife 2 роки тому +2

      @@JustAnotherBuckyLover Jeez, calm your farm, dude. I didn’t complain about them at all. I simply pointed out the obvious fact that if you’re triggered by murder related things you shouldn’t watch murder videos. I think you need to think about why you’ve gotten so worked up over a simple comment that states the obvious.

    • @JustAnotherBuckyLover
      @JustAnotherBuckyLover 2 роки тому

      @@evelynvslife The fact that you think my comment is "worked up" when someone simply contradicts you suggests that you should be looking at why you can't take criticism, dude. Clearly, if someone is triggered by any kind of discussion of anything violent they wouldn't watch it. But not everyone has triggers that generalised and non-specific, which you don't seem to grasp. Why are you so wound up about the idea of being respectful and warning people? I think it's you who needs to calm your farm. LOL

  • @inthegarbageyougo

    Okay so here’s my theory
    ( I am a crime scene cleaner to state my qualifications for this)
    It was most likely a man that acted alone, even with the large murder.
    He was of some military or police background with gang connections considering how he killed and that he was able to get his hands on a sub machine gun (even in Costa Rica, that is still difficult to get unless you have connections)
    Now the 6 year gap is something that I think everyone is missing: this man was either incarcerated for another crime for 6 years, left the country for multiple reasons or was on military deployment.
    He was probably a very average or below average looking man who felt a lot of anger towards women and couples due to his own lack of ability to have a relationship.
    The single women who were murdered either knew this man from somewhere like he had spoken to them at least once or was possibly even a friend.
    They were most likely murdered due to them rejecting his possible advances or that they reminded him of a woman that hurt him whether that was his mother, an ex or someone he became infatuated with at younger age that rejected him.
    He was most likely between 20-40 years old and was fit physically as you would need some sort of stamina to be carrying out the murders like he did.
    I don’t believe the guy they had arrested that died did it, they were in the right track though.
    Let me know what you think of my theory on this!

      Costa Rica doesn't have a military due to the civil war that happened there in 1948. Otherwise, that is a very good description.

    Couldn't agree more about regulating sex work. If it's going to happen no matter what -- and it has for the entire history of civilization -- why not legalize it, regulate it, and keep these women safe? Putting your head in the sand does no one any good. Incidentally I also have similar feelings about drug use (decriminalize/treat) but that's not exactly a popular opinion.
