    I don't think Jim Carrey really needs to do much more. He ended with a fun role in Sonic 2 and I don't think anyone will complain. He's got a really strong set of movies he's already been in, he really did put it best. He's done enough.

      I think Tobey left out of his own will. It wasn’t for lack of talent. And he only came back to play Spider-Man because of the popularity of the role. Jim Carrey seems to be living the life that every actor dreams of living; star in countless iconic films and be a mainstay in Hollywood for almost 3 decades, then just take fun roles that you want to play while slipping into a quiet retirement. I’m sure if he wanted come back and take a lead role in a large production any director would cast him in a heartbeat, but he seems perfectly happy to just live the retired life.

    • @pricklycatsss
      @pricklycatsss Рік тому +14

      Not necessarily. I'm sure a lot of actors are addicted to the praise/attention they get from being famous (either because of narcissism or just didn't get enough attention as kids or something). Some of those people are not normal mentally and require way more stimulation than the average person to be happy.

    • @pricklycatsss
      @pricklycatsss Рік тому +21

      A better way to put it would be that he's doing what actors should try to do, and find things to do outside of acting or being under a media microscope 24/7. It's not normal for humans to be exposed to millions of people's thoughts and opinions about them all the time.

    Taylor Lautner is always who comes to my mind when people say men aren't affected by Hollywood's obsession with image the way women are. I don't doubt that it's more ubiquitous with women but I honestly think Taylor Lautner really got railroaded and the poor guy really never stood a chance. I still remember seeing those "Twilight Moms" who were women in their 40's and 50's, thirsting over Lautner and counting down the days until her turned 18 which was just...creepy. Then, the moment he has the audacity to age and stop having the body of a 20 year old Olympic water polo player, the media immediately begins making fun of him for being "fat" and "out of shape". They even began to call him "washed up" and a "hasbeen" when he was only like 25 years old!
    So the guy was hypersexualized while he was still a minor, stops doing his ridiculously intense and grueling workout routine to maintain his physique, immediately gets lambasted for it, then gets called washed up and a "hasbeen" and he only turned 30 just last year. Whether or not people think he's a good actor is irrelevant, he deserved much better. I just looked him up and was happy to see that he recently got married, did a movie last year, and just generally looks happy and healthy. He always seemed like a nice guy and I've only heard good things from people who've met him. I hope he's doing well.

      Taylor Lautner's situation was unfortunate, but remember that guy was not a man, he was still a kid when fame hit him. The dude was a boy of 15 or 16 back in 2008 when grown women in their 20s, 30s, 40s, even 50s openly stated they wanted to fuck him. There was no way any boy, no matter how mature is ready for that level of fame and open offers of sex from women far older than you. I remember women at work back in the late 2000s/early 2010s openly talking about how hot he was. Even when the guy turned 18, it was still weird to hear adult women talk about him. No way men would be allowed to perve on a girl like that and not be labeled a creep. Then the guy got bad movie roles, then he stopped working out, got older and looked like a regular guy and there you have it. Lautner still has the potential for some kind of comeback, though I think he should steer away from heartthrob roles.

    Sasha Baron Cohen was playing Freddie Mercury in the Bohemian Rhapsody, but kept complaining that there should be more about Freddie's drug fuelled parties and "notorious promiscuity".
    it was pointed out to him by Brian May that Freddie was never promiscuous, that he was shy but would play up to a crowd at a party. Got drugs available for people that used them but that his actual vice was vodka. When Baron Cohen had a rant on set at a cameraman, then made some explicit comments about things Freddie alledgedly did, including insults to his mother. Roger Taylor happened to be there. Apparently, he politely told him that none of them were ever rude to Freddie's parents. That he kept his private life away from his family because he worried about the press following them around. Then, he went right up nose to nose with Baron Cohen and fired him. Baron Cohen tried to laugh it off saying Roger couldnt fire him, only to discover that as Roger & Brian were the exec producers, key investors, were involved in just about every part of the film, he could fire him and Baron Cohen was kicked off set and had his stuff sent to his home from his trailer on set by courier.
    As Brian May pointed out, if you get cast to play a real person and you have that persons life long friends there, you dont go round spouting your opinion based on what the press said happened.

    Taylor didn't fall as far as you'd think as he managed to land a co-lead role in the BBC comedy 'Cuckoo'. Andy Sanberg left after season 1 because of 'Brooklyn Nine Nine', so Taylor got the role of his son and had immediate chemistry with actor & comedian Gregg Davis (of Taskmaster fame). Together the pair would work for a couple of seasons before Taylor bowed out before the final few episodes, however this role as a happy go lucky fool seemed to really work for him and I hope it leads to more comedy roles in the future.

Mark Hamill and especially Elijah Wood are two other fantastic examples of this (the former still embracing his Luke role whilst going on to be the most iconic voice the Joker has ever had, the latter embracing his love for wacky horror films and other dramatic roles like in No Man of God).

    Its sad when an actor or actress has such an iconic and beloved role that they struggle to break out of the mold. A similar trajectory sometimes happens with music artists and one hit wonders. Most are grateful for the success they had with that song but also wish more people knew about their other work.

    Sacha Baron-Cohen was in the miniseries The Spy (2019) based on a true story about an Israeli spy in Syria in the 1960's. It was a completely serious role, a far shot from the crass humour he is typically known for. And guess what? He absolutely crushed the role. He was perfect. The man has so much more range than many people would suspect.

      Yep. He's a seriously good actor. He was into theater/drama in school & college. That moreso classical "training" shows.

    Man, seeing Jim Carrey and Tobey not being cast again is sad. I love Tobey for his Spider-Man and Jim for The Truman Show. Nice documentary again Sunny! 👍

    You forgot about Sacha Baron Cohen's Oscar nomination in 2021 though for The Trial Of The Chicago 7 - that's generally a good signal that an actor's not done. He saw what Adam Sandler did with Uncut Gems and put in an equally good performance. Yes, it didn't make much in the box office but it was 2020 - no-one made any money at the box office!
