      I got into the 40v line a long time ago and like it a lot. I do wish their mowers had metal decks again. The composite deck are tough but to me they feel like a current generation Tonka toy! My generation of Tonka toys were metal and that’s what I’m use to using…lol! I love the rest of the lineup though!

    I've been so impressed with my 40V 14" Ryobi. I just bought the 40V 12" top handle and am impressed with both. So much easier to use than the 450Husqvarna I bought. Yes I'm an occasional user but that matters. Only concern I have is the reliability of the batteries. I have a lot of 40V tools but I have concerns with the amount of money I've spent on batteries.

    Would also love to see a comparison of the Ryobi vs the Ego 18”. I used the Ego to buck up 10 cords of wood last year, I have gas saws but wanted to see if I could do it and how it would hold up. Surprisingly, for everything 16” and under I very much prefer the Ego to gas, i still did the larger logs, it’s just much more work than my large Stihl. But it was a 28” diameter twisted cherry. I also maintain 40 miles of trails and having a saw that you are not constantly having to pull to start has allowed me to get the trails done much quicker. Went out with my anti battery friends for maintenance and they would say “I’ll cut that”, and I would have it cut before their saw was started. I proved my point, they are bow “considering” a battery saw for trails, but I am all for practicality. If it works… it works. I’ve had the saw for 3 years now, probably 30 cords of wood, and i have had 0 issues. I pop a 10ah on if I have a log load and it goes longer than I want to before a charge is needed :D Still not the right saw for dropping large trees, but it won’t be long before battery saws get there.

      My neighbor had a tall tree come down in his yard after a storm. I loaded up my Ryobi 18v 12 inch and Ryobi 40v 14 inch chainsaws, a bunch of batteries, and headed over to his place to offer some help. Long story short, I was cutting up the tree with the Ryboi saws for over half an hour before he could get his Stihl 16 inch chainsaw running. Most of the work was done before he even showed up. Gas chainsaws, if not used very often, can be a problem to start when you only need them once or twice a year. If you have recharged batteries, the 18v and 40v Ryobi chainsaws are immediately up and running.

    have the last model 18in 40v and its pretty good. it's too good. the batterys are getting cooked in a few minutes. using new sharp chains on 18in logs. bar barely passes through all the way. on the fence about getting it warrented or not because the saw does work. just not how it used too. 4,5, and 6ah batterys

    • @gtaus1
      @gtaus1 Рік тому

      I grew up with gas chainsaws. I would cut up everything first and then clean up the site, stacking and piling the wood. With battery chainsaws, I have discovered that I get better results if I cut up some wood, clean up a little bit - letting the battery cool down - and then cut some more. Allowing the battery to cool down while cleaning up can often avoid thermal shutdowns and extends the run time of the battery.

    Driving a 20-inch chain from a 40-volt battery (36V under load) seems ill-advised. Greenworks has two 20s. Their 60V model draws 2.8 kilowatts. Their 82V commercial model draws 3.4 kW. So does DeWalt's 60-volt 20. For Ryobi to deliver 2800 watts from 36 volts, their battery would need to deliver almost 78 amps! Other 40V chainsaws deliver just 1200 to 1600 watts. My guess is the Ryobi draws, at most, 1800 watts--far too little for a 20-inch chain.
