- This 1968 chibi mini bike made by Bridgstone was picked up at a yard sale for $80, it lived a hard life but we are here to try and save it. lets see what it takes to rustore it back into running and riding condition. spending no money on it.
Thank you Darren. I’m a combat vet. It’s hard for me to fall asleep. Your videos provide a lot of comfort. If I could, my hands would be permanently dirty. 👍🏾🇺🇸👍🏾Cheers mate
Thank you for your service.
I know what you're talking about. I don't sleep very well, always paranoid
It's easy to overlook how excellent the camera work, editing, and commentary is from Darren. Because it seems so natural, almost like we are there in the shop helping. Especially when he asks us questions! 😁 Great channel, thanks Darren! 👍👍
lllplllpplopo l
Yes and especially there's no annoying intro, title screen or music. Plus no selfie monologue before the fixing or action begins; Mustie films in 1st person perspective or 2nd person, as if we are there looking over his shoulder. These features cannot be overstated nor ignored.
He's a national treasure
It looks like you're having way too much fun with that one. Definitely a spunky little rascal isn't it? Another great video Darren. 😁👍
He should have tried to thread the plastic valve barb directly into the female pipe threaded tank fitting, the valve making it's own elbow.
After all the work, that test ride looked like a blast. We have a 210lb kid on it giggling like a school kid. Outstanding find Mustie1.
Best Mini Bike Ever!! Almost an understatment. That little thing surprised us all. I could not believe how well the engine wanted to rev. Man the memories when it fired up was the best part. Mustie, you are a legend. Thank you for all the time and effort that you put in for us!! We really appreciate you!!!!
I was gonna say, Honda 50 is the best mini bike ever but this little 2 stroke is pretty cool! I bet it is faster than the Honda!
As much as I love the Hondas the 50s and the 70s this bike would beat them both I believe the 50 for sure by a mile and I’m pretty sure it would beat the 3 speed 70 as well I had a buddy who had one of these and he couldn’t drive a standard I had a blast that summer 1972
lets get back to king midget car or the red pick up truck. the fabrication in those would be very educational.
One of the disadvantages of being a city boy is no mini-bikes, no dirtbikes.
Mustie is so inspiring. He has already saved me money, time and a lot of fun by his knowledge. He is lucid, inventive. He lends us his hands, his eyes, his intelligence. He calmly breaks down and explains the reasons for each action like a good teacher.
From Belgium, I wait for Mustie's video every afternoon after the Sunday meal.
Thank you so much, Mustie.
Mustie I really appreciate your editing how you go from side to side depending on what you working on and how you turn down the volume when you use air tools great video 👍
.
It is always enjoyable to watch him work!
An other win! And your frontal bone passed the test as well! It's inspiring to see a grown man keeping a good portion of a juvenile mind fully functional and finely tuned. Thanks for the videos which I enjoy week after week.
I love when you dig through the stash to find parts!!!
Was there any doubt that Mustie1 wouldn’t be in the “3 acre wood” scaring the pooh out of “Winnie” with that thing. When two stroke engines are running right they are great on making power and speed. I enjoyed both videos….. my Sunday has officially been kick-started.
Ah there is a kid in all of us. So many memories riding those as a kid. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍
0:58 I think that Gas Tank was left upside down in a mud puddle. I wonder if it could be brazed to seal all of the holes? WOW! What a little BEAST! A 10yo would wreck themselves on that! LOL! The exhaust Blue Smoke hugging your back as you ripped by the camera.
I have said it before but I will say it again I love the unexpected laugh of your inner child when you’re having fun..
That little bike flys lol but then it came from an era of what health and safety lol
That’s a 1970’s Rockford Chibi Mini bike. I think Rockford were the importers of Bridgestone bikes back in the day but when Bridgestone dropped bikes it left Rockford with nothing to do so they started supplying these kids mini bikes, three different versions I think Taka, Tora and Chibi. 👍
I bet the neighbours will love the sound of that bike!
He is good at what he does because he enjoys it so much.
Yup, that's pretty much the key to any job or hobby - really enjoy what you're doing and you'll do a good job.
@@SlartiMarvinbartfast that's why I loved my professional job.

This little screamer is not just for 10 year olds it’s for all ages and you just proved this! Great video!
Another awesome Mustie1 video. Always enjoy watching with a cup of tea here in the UK. That little thing suprised me with how fast it is :D
Had one when I was a kid and absolutely the best mini bike ever! Wish I still had it!!!
As soon as I seen that triangle seat I said that's the one and then you walked away from it and I was like NO! Then you came back for it awesome. What an emotional roller coaster this morning has been.👍
Thank goodness he didn’t go with banana seat..
It's funny you say that, because it's almost like he knows what some of us are thinking. His little "Some of you are saying no", "The red one or the blue one? Some of you are saying neither", etc, proves that his mental "polls" do work.
Nothing like a screaming little 2-stroke! Makes me want to dig out all the pieces of the JT-1 Yamaha that my kids learned to ride on and make it run again. Too cool.
I’m nowhere close to being a mechanic. With that I. had an hole in my oil pan once, hit it on a raised manhole cover. I took it off cleaned up real good with dawn and a degreaser. Slapped JB weld on it and put it back on. I drove it for another 5 years like that and it never leaked.
This has been my favorite project in a while. I love that mini-bike. It sounds like a chain-saw but man does it ever rip! So cool Mustie. Thanks for sharing.
I had a yellow Honda z50 when I was a kid, and I loved it, but always longed for more power. One day I was riding the trails, and came across another kid who had one of these. At first, I noticed how similar it looked to my z50, but I thought it was a bit odd looking, especially with that gas tank. But oh man, once he fired it up and took off, I was green with envy!!! That thing would just haul compared to my little z50. I wanted one so bad...
That blue VW sign hanging on the wall in the background sure brought back some memories. That was pretty much all I remember you working on when I first started watching your videos.
Mustie and his magic. Love it. Happy Sunday everyone.
Gotta love the 2 stroke speed! Thanks for having us in the shop!
28:40 perhaps cut the old tank in two, fit the little black tank in it, and welled it all back shut, then slap a coat of Bondo on the old take and just to make it look decent and a coat of paint. that way you won't have a leaking tank and yet keep the original look of the bike.
Sloshing some tank sealer into the original tank would be a lot easier to do.
Darren… you have proved there is balance in the Universe….
You do the Work, you do the Fun.
One of my favorite builds. Took me back to being with my friends as kids and fixing an old minibike that someone gave us. We spent a good summer putting it back together and tearing up the trails. Thanks for this.
That ole thing pulls SO hard! It's amazing that you made a kid's bike large child-worthy.
ouch that was a pain overload... even mustie tapped out for a few sec lol what a guy
The mini bike reminds Me of My old Honda 50. I had a 1968 or so 3 speed auto. Imust of put close to 100,000 Miles on that thing. LOL..I rode that from 6 years old too 15 years old. It would not Die...That Thing you have is pretty badass for a mini bike. Damn kid on it would be floppying in the wind the way it flys .LOLGreat little find..
Man have these 2 vids motivated my boys and their buddies !!!! I have never, ever seen them roar with such respect when you thrashed that little bike around outdoors - I'm worried my tools are about to disappear now but hey ho it will be in a good cause. Thank you Mr Motivator for giving a group of young men a positive focus.
You are the man!! Many memories of being Evil Knievel on one of those. Thanks for the reminder and for showing us your limitless talent!!
There is some irony in using parts from a failed electric bike to fix an old two-stroke hehe. Have a good Sunday
Fossil fuels forever!
@Les I mow my yard with a riding mower and it takes me hours to do on that. I'm not saying it's impossible to do with a push mower but I would say it's impractical. Because I did do it once. And that was too much!
Wow that sound brings back some really good memories from the summer of 1972 fantastic video thanks for posting
Awesome little bike! Excellent job keeping it all together when you cracked yourself between the lookers with that bar. Reminded me of myself when working on things but you in the end get better results! Thanks for the great videos.
In 1976 I was 10 years old and my Honda 50 was my first bike, looks the same as this one.
I hit a root in the ground, crossed the bars and sent the left grip into my weenie and myself up and over, head first, snapping the aluminum headset in half.
My little girlfriend mom was a nurse, she took me into the bathroom and asked me to drop my pants so she could see where the blood was coming from. NOPE, Not Gonna' Do That! 🤨🥺😰
That was my last ride with that bike but for a 10 year old kid I felt like Ghost Rider for a while, Fantastic bike!🤩✌
Try to fix the old tank, sand blast and weld in patch panels, that tank is super cool, and would be tough to find another original
JB weld would fix it.
Better to just tin it, its gonna be looking like shit and still leak after its been welded with a squirt gun.
@@pinwizz69 he knows that
Original tank seems massive but if it’s original it should stay with the bike I agree
@@pinwizz69 taryl puttiie
Usually I think you take a much more pragmatic approach to repairs than I would. But in this case, those rear axle keepers are like $5 a pair - a lot easier than welding on a washer
Deep in his heart, every guy loves mini-bikes. Great vid!
That's for sure!
When I was about 14 years, we kids took turns rding our buddy's Honda Mini Trail 50 and thought it was great. Then my Dad picked up a used Hodaka Ace 90 for my bro and I. What a difference! That lightweight flew through the woods like a running deer! I know it wasn't a mini like this one but the effect was the same -- the joy of a two-stroke's howl!
This bike reminds me of a HONDA 110 TRAIL. The Tanzanian Government had given all its “men” staff one of them between 1990-1992, and my neighbour friend’s Dad brought one home and I still remember how exited my friend was, and I thought it was the coolest bike one can own at that time. The only bike I know that had the “Hugest” rear luggage seat!! If you sit on it, you had to spread the legs wide!!! But it was great for women, coz they used to sit sideways back in the days. And it was very comfy seat for them. Thanks for the memory @Mustie1
What an excellent video, Mustie1. I really enjoy the way you engage us, and it's unique how you speak to us and you voice out what your plan is, what you're thinking. And asking 'what we reckon'. The behind the scenes work is also appreciated. Every time you've had to 'put us on a tripod', reposition the camera so we can see. And take us for the ride. We learn so much with you. Congrats on the fine job.
But that is its tank. Unless you can find a direct replacment you should repair it. Spot weld, body filler and a pour in tank liner. Easy peasy.
I wouldn't even bother with the welding. Tank liner then put some glazing putty on it like it had. Whoever did that had the right idea.
Power of that thing is impressive!
So glad to watch these shows ! So helpful and entertaining too !
That little thing sure does spool up in the top band. Wowee
Great fun.
Thanks Mr Mustie 🙏
I never thought of using gym equipment pads for seats, who cares what it looks like as long as your having fun!
awesome! love watching you fix things to work!
Mustie1, that is one good sounding 2-stroke I've heard in a long time. Great job!
This really brought me back to the days riding my 50CC Gemini SST all over the neighborhood with friends. Good times brought back thanks to your video!
Bridgestone was a great motorcycle, ahead of its time.
Dirt bike looks great, love the sound of a 2 stroke.
Love this channel! Times to watch for the patented Mustie1 laugh. 1. First Start 2. First Ride 3. Something Catches Fire
I love all of your videos. I can say this because of my own experiences, but I have never laughed so hard when you hit your head and the noises you made. Anyone who turns a wrench could feel the pain. I truly appreciate that you left that on your video because that's the reality of turning a wrench. Thank you for being an inspiration to me!
I would cut out the rusted metal on the original tank and do a little body work on it,it is tedious time consuming work but I think it can be saved if need be.
You don't even need to. Just use liner and putty the outside back up.
Way too much work. Damage is on top, just braze it and be done
@@hojo70 you try to braze rusty dirty crap and done is one way of putting it. Popcorn for everybody! Because that's what you're going to be making.
Agreed, those tanks are not so easily found. Maybe even find a friend who would be interested in re-skinning the top.
Great job Darren, you are awesome fixing everything….
Great job on the mini bike. I wonder if the bolt hole in the front of the engine was for a skid plate of some sort? You had me LMAO when the carb started giving you issues on the ride and you said "just need to get it back to the shop" then you headed off deeper into the wood. You the Man. LOL
I could feel the spiderwebs on my face as you were coming through those trails
I'm sorry I let out a little snort when the pipe slipped , I promise I felt terrible that you hurt yourself afterward. I hope you are ok.
Knock a little sense into him after he tried to mangle the frame tube.
For those of you who are new here, Mustie1 has the full capabilities to restore these little treasures in mint condition but chooses to restore some with what he has readily available. This basically makes it a perfect channel for when we were all 10 - 15 years old. That time in our life when these vehicles gave us our much needed independence to explore the world on our own. He teaches all of us how to improvise and not just buy parts. These are skills most people are missing today. While most people may head for their crazy uncles house during the apocalypse because he has guns and groceries, I'll be headed to Mustie's because he has the knowledge to make things work. He could just as easily run an armory repairing guns, fixing jeeps, tanks, or flipping cars, flipping houses, etc... but chooses this because it's fun.
Funny memory, in 1981 I had a Kawasaki KH125 with that same torque induction, I got really quick at taking off the side cover and whacking the carb to stop it flooding.
It always konked out when it was just hot enough and waiting at a red traffic light... never anywhere convenient.
Happy days.
My dad was a dealer for Rockford/Chibi. I had this new in 74ish? What set this apart was high revs, low end torque power band. Was of the METER for a small bike.
You went to a lot of trouble messing with the gas tank. I was in the fiberglass repair business for 19 years and you could have gotten body filler paste which is gasoline safe, filled the holes using a straight edge and sanded it back, spray paint it and have the original tank in service without all of the fuss. Otherwise I'm impressed with what you do. I've learned a lot. Thank you from the mountains of Montana.
First time ever I not watch it on a Sunday. Lovely little motor with a beefy engine. Sounds really great. I was in the first place not agreeing with the tank and seat you continued with but when I saw it during driving around I could live with it.
When the thumbnail description on UA-cam video is actually correct. Yes sir it is the best mini bike ever.
The ten year old rides again keep up the good work always enjoy your videos
👍👌👏 I absolutely love to see Mustie1 havin' fun. When his white mane/hair is flowing in the wind, everybody knows, that a bike is fast enough and he's enjoying riding it. This amazing little beast sounds pretty strong and healthy. I'm pretty impressed. Seems to be a good quality mini bike. I really hope to watch a 3rd repair episode. Maybe even putting on another tank or at least paint this one orange (there are even tank sealing products on the market, that can even deal with holes). The small Channel Bill Buchholz shows a new Chibi in a 1.56 min Video.
Best regards, luck and health.
His little giggle, like a kid, is infectious. If I wasn’t working full time I would be on my boat motor in a second . I have no shop , hard to find some parts . But I know of a power head for it .
I understand someone having spare engine parts around, but spare gas tanks and spare bicycle seats? I guess that's what makes Mustie so good at what he does.
Damn that thing moves! You have so much fun with these rebuilds. Loved another successful revival!
I thought you bought that at a yard sale for $80 now it was in the woods for 20 years 👍👍
That little 2-stroke 3-speed Mitsubishi engine makes impressive power. It would be awesome on a small kid's go-kart with a live axle.
Love your channel. I'm a bit surprised that you dented the frame for a temporary gas tank...
Yeah i cringed watching that part.Honestly could of welded and cleaned original tank back.I was thinking he could’ve also welded a new outlet directly in center bottom and welding side where spigot closed and spray it.
I was saying no don't dent the frame 😨
I would almost agree if this thing wasnt in as rough of shape. He is most likely gonna sell to someone who wont even notice or care, maybe.
With those drive-bys I was half expecting Sheriff Will Teasle to be tailing him in his LTD II. Another great one!
I know this is such a random question, but have you ever made any videos on the VW Autostick? I'd love to learn how the system works, There's very few videos out there on it. I might be picking up an autostick soon just because of how cool they are with their vacuum systems and all with electrical/vacuum system shifting. Very slim videos on it might make for some interesting content!! Thanks for the awesome videos as always Mustie, I always learn great tips and tricks from every single one of your videos, thanks for making us feel like we're truly in the shop with you!
Hi, on the pinholes on the gas tank, JB Weld works great, grind the paint off where the pin holes are, apply a coat of JB weld on it, let it set over night and you should be good to go again, I have casted sections of broken motorcycle engine cases with JB weld and have had great luck, When I was doing refrigeration, for a grocery store chain , the employees would staple price signs inside a rectangular self contained freezer box that the top was open, they would punch holes in the evaporator and drain the Freon out of the system, we would have to apply a vacuum to the system and Use JB weld on the Staple Pin holes to reseal the system, worked great :) Keep up the great work, Chellie
Back in the sixties parents weren't so worried about their kids dying that's why that Mini bike has so much more power than today's Mini bikes. The horde & Mustie saves another #1
You could always make more kids. Lol
You are a one of a kind talent Darren, good vid.
That test ride was epic! Amazed you didn’t hurt yourself with that thing going through the bushes😅
A couple of good movies, a joy ride and a $5oo bill in your pocket easy selling to a Dad cool enough to let his kid run this old 2 stroke piece around the trails of NH. It made me smile and laugh on your ride and I wasn't even riding it. Fun, cool dangerous toy like they used to make 'em in the good old days. The head injuries were how you learned what not to do and the muffler burns and road rash. Awesome!!!
That little bike rips! Thanks for the video, Love the channel!!!!!!
Mustie.....love it when i hear that laugh......like when u hear an old engine run.....reminds me of working with my dad and grandpop.....love your vids.

Pat Ward used to build similat bikes 1970's when he was a junior racer, in the Finger Lakes! AFTER H.S. Pat went to four wheel racing. Good spot weld on that flat washer.Impressive results with speed at fine!
My old harley mini bike float was the same way, would leak once in awhile and I had to control how much fuel it got with the petcock, also had to make a custom bowl from aluminum stock because the original rotted out and the internet wasn't as alive with aftermarket solutions or parts for these. Sure miss that bike.
Another great video and save, I wish I had half your talent, I'm only at about 35% lol. For a small kid I think the rear sprocket should be bigger, less top end speed and more pulling power thru the sand.
A little kid should have enough sense to stay out of soft sand on a wheeled machine.
@@1pcfred a little kid will have enough sense to that is where the fun is
@@darinblomquist422 to each their own. I don't find soft sand particularly fun to go across myself though.
So methodical and master at modification great work wish I had your abundant patience
Very nicely progressing to restoration! I've wondered what might happen when there's a malfunction on the test track. Good recovery! Is it possible to some how reseal the original tank from the inside, w/o throwing $$$, since that's the purpose of these vids? Have a great week!
That was one of the funnest videos I've seen in a while. You were having a blast out there riding it. I felt about 50 years younger. That price of $80 was a steal! I have a $75 Arctic Cat (4 stroke) I bought maybe 10 years ago. Started it once and the centrifugal clutch was hanging up. Haven't touched it since but will be retiring in 5 months! Being 6' 3", I hope I can ride it! I had a couple 2 stroke "Sachs 47cc" Arctic Cats in the early '70's. I was much shorter back then!
When you're ten years old that's the coolest thing ever
Watching Mustie turn 10 .... that's the coolest thing ever!
It's still the coolest thing ever when you're 55!
Managed to acquire a few thousand air cooled vw parts for the best price. I planned to try to mustie an engine together since I have everything except a flywheel, dizzy, and pushrod tubes. I think the numerous videos on bugs should help this endeavor. Love these videos for the combination of knowledge and the spirit of having fun regardless of if it runs or not afterwards.
@ 47:13 Musti tries to knock some sense into himself. Lets see if it takes.
I want one. That little bike revs like crazy! I hope you eventually find a correct seat and tank and to get the headlight working. One of the best channels on UA-cam delivers again.
I think that is Dumb and Dumbers bike!
Good morning, nothing like getting up and ready to go to work and watching a mustie video
In the 70’s I had the low level Briggs @ Stratton scrub brake, centrifugal clutch or more simple description WORTHLESS. I dreamed of a Honda mini trail or the Benneli or the Bridgestone. Of not to leave out the Honda ATC 90 three wheelers!
Yes those were good times!
“ I’m going to back it up…..oh screw it let’s put some gas in and fire it up! “. That’s why I love you, bro!
Man that little sounds and runs amazing. Sounds like it has enough for another gear lol. Comment of the show "has a nut on each side, like me".
V funny
That's a old old bike. Those rascals were tons of fun. Especially when camping or at the beach. Even when around home, if you had the room to blast around. Everybody who has ridden for a while has found a jump to fly off of. That's what really puts hard wear on them... or some over weight rider. I can only imagine all that it has been through...all of the fun. They were beasts.
