  • Our latest short film tribute and clothing collection pays homage to the Gracie family and the role Gracie Jiu-Jitsu played in shaping the sport of mixed martial arts history.
The distinguished contributors speaking in the film illustrates how the reputation of the legendary clan of Brazilian ground fighters stretched far beyond the boundaries of mixed martial arts and into the mainstream. MMA cognoscenti such as Urijah Faber, Ed Soares, and Eddie Bravo share their thoughts on the Gracie family alongside sports and pop culture luminaries "Iron" Mike Tyson and multi-platinum recording artist Snoop Dogg.
"Rorion Gracie created the UFC to prove that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was the most efficient form of martial art in the world," says Soares, the owner of Black House, "And that point was proven, anybody who trains mixed martial arts, trains Gracie Jiu-Jitsu."
"The Gracie's are not as big as they should be, they had an art that was so outrageous, and it showed that size didn't matter, says Tyson," "The fighting world has the utmost respect for the Gracie clan."
In addition to the short tribute film, Roots of Fight has produced a limited capsule collection of apparel. Further, exclusive content and the apparel can be found at www.rootsoffight.com

I'm excited to hear that, your videos often feel like a trailer for a film that I REALLY want to see but that doesn't exist. The short format is a great way to promote your brand and products, the product placement is the smoothest I've seen anywhere. I work in marketing so I follow that type of thing.
Perhaps a parallel series, with extended cuts of each video would work. I'd be willing to bet that for all of your projects you have interesting interview footage that didn't make the final cut.

"Everyone in MMA trains Gracie JJ." Nope. There are judoka, catch wrestlers, and BJJ fighters with non-Gracie lineage (Fadda/Franca, etc) in MMA. The Gracies just sell it better than anyone ever did.

lets be real, the gracies brought ground work into the combat sports world. but the gracies learned everything from japanese jiu jitsu.
if a couple of high level japanese jiu jitsu players came to america and challenged all the fighters like the gracies had done, they would have been just as successful.
the fact is no one in the americas (north and south) were aware of the beautiful submission style known as jiu jitsu.
the gracies introduced that to the americas

LOL dude i've trained with good wrestlers and good bjj guys and let me tell you what it comes down to a lot of the time is the athlete himself. that and knowing sub defense. if you get a guy that likes leg locks like Rousimar Palhares and will pull guard when you tie up you're fucked. he's going to probably heel hook you and tear your ligaments . that is a great HS record though, what college did/do you wrestle at?
