    Great peek. Thanks. These cats are not for exploring the North Atlantic in harrowing winds, which is fine cause I don't want to do that. People report they spend most of their time at a warm-water anchorage anyway. Might as well have a floating condo. I was on a Bali 5.4 this summer and the wife fell in love. The Lagoon is nice, but lacks the living space of the Bali. People buy these big cats for the lifestyle, not hard-water crossings (which they can do, albeit uncomfortably). Might as well get the most lifestyle for the buck. For the money I think we're still aiming at the Bali, though maybe the 4.8.

      I don’t like all the cabins, I much rather have a way bigger master and say 2 guest cabins. Having all those guest cabins seems stupid. If I’m sailing with me and my lady I don’t want 3 other couples on a boat that’s only 55ft. Not saying it’s a small boat but it’s small when theirs 8 plus people on board. Why is it the older 50 plus foot cats seem to have really cool master bedrooms that take up the whole front part of the ship, I can’t remember the UA-cam family that has one but it’s really cool.

    • @FamilyManMoving
      @FamilyManMoving 2 роки тому +3

      @@marcuslarwa9098 Most of these cats are sold into the charter market, where 8-10 guests pay 20-30K per week. The destination-tourism trade exploded about ten years back. You can still order most new cats in 'owner's editions' the way you want (fewer/larger rooms). Catana/Bali even created a boat (the 4.8) that is a bit smaller than their flagship charter boat (the 5.4), specifically to cater to potential owners. But it's also configurable as a charter. I think most charter operators would go the full 5.4, though. I'm looking at the 4.8 as a possibility in a few years, as I get ready to retire.

    I like for Lagoon to answer these question as followed directly. " Do the 55 lagoon have a structural problems that compromises the yacht performance, stability and safety." Are the problems with its previous model(s) are to be expected on this year 2022 Lagoon 55? If not... Will Lagoon guarantee its hull with a buy-back if there are problems with its structure e.g., streaky floor, bulkhead integrity and related issues? The yacht looks great . I just hope that it meets superior building standards.

Two issues that would end the possibility of buying, the bulkhead problems that will harm over a thousand people with defective boats, and the other issue that drives me nuts about all of the Lagoons I have been on is creaky floors. I could hear them the whole time you were walking around.

    The greatest depth of the sailboat design should be at the stem of the boat. The point midway between the mast and forestay should be the deepest point of the sailboat design. This increases the lateral resistance for the headsails and improves sail power and rudder control in high wind. Normal on keel design and normally refered to as seaworthy. When the bow of the boat has the most lateral resistance the boat is said to be seaworthy.

Its all well and good if you plan to just anchor it and motor in calm seas from island to island, but best laid plans of mice and sailors. Also my guess is more than one or two drunk guests will go sliding into the water along one of those walkways. Again any sea chop or motion will put many sailors and passengers in the water if there is not something to grab onto. The rule is “one hand for me and one hand for the boat” meaning you always want something you can grab onto while moving on deck. Pretty nice cat...except for that fly bridge. Delete that completely, drop the main sail boom (and requisite mast height) by 10 feet, and cover the remaining roof with solar and you'd have something. As is, it's just another condo-maran. Cannot understand why people like that sort of thing, but apparently they do with 50 preproduction purchases on the books.

    Noob question: why do sailing cats have trampolines but power cats can have a full front cockpit.

    • @FamilyManMoving
      @FamilyManMoving 2 роки тому +1

      Bali has solid foredecks on the sailing cats, but I think they are alone. I think for everyone else there are some legacy choices in cat architecture having to do with designs built around older materials and methods. Makers are starting to lift the foredecks and connect them. Trampolines on some modern designs have shrunk to the point they might as well go full deck, ala Bali.

    Everybody hating on this Lagoon should ask themselves why are they so successful then? And so much criticism for the interior design but don't they know you can customise the decoration when you order the boat? And that all luxury boatbuilders in that price range offer the same minimalistic style? What are they doing commenting this video if they have no idea what they're talking about?

    I’m not sure if it was an optical illusion or not but the bow seemed low in the water while the stern was high? Seemed to be nosing into the shallow waves? Obviously a day trip boat? No solar provision? Open exposed to the weather top cockpit? 50 sold before making production? Hmmmm. Not for me. I think lagoon needs some new designers?

    Big problems with bulkhead issues.
    This cat well how do you sort boom issues in big seas?
    Windage? Really high bridge and dangerous.
    Its a cat for light weather sailing and small seas thats it.
    Personally i wouldnt trust the designs or the build quality.

    So what do you do if you have a problem with your boom? Moving the sail area up apart from massively lowering your performance especially in light winds just makes the boat top heavy. I suppose you don't have to worry about the boat flipping though, you're permanently reefed lol. Fly bridges on sailing boats has got to be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.
