First of all, I love watching you skate and the edits in this video are absolutely amazing. I grew up skating at the same skatepark as Chris Joslin, he’s one of my favorites. I definitely appreciate this content on the back biggie, and props to you for sharing the secrets to making it happen!
I been skating over 10 years I could never do the bs bigspin without pivoting I just finally figured it out. Now I just pop the big spin and catch it at 90 degrees with my front foot pretty easy now I’m just working on getting them higher I can pivot them all day I just want perfect.
Yo nice vid, I've been skating forever but I m not too good, this is a trick that I can only do on flat ground and the lazy way (more a shuv it- land on the nose and pivot) I'm gonna go out tonight and try to pop it. Good tip on not hanging your toes/not having pressure on the toes side, I think I do that a lot and yeah, it make the board flip in a weird way. I got this man. Cheers
For me it's just a smooth 3 shove and I turn with it halfway. Idk from that footage it kinda seems like Joslin just brushed you off and said some bs. For him it probably feels that way but everyone is different so, eh. Edit: I think telling you to focus on the pop shove first helps just to make sure you get that *pop* so you have enough air to rotate, but he doesn't even catch it halfway and then spins it the rest of the way. He pops a 3 shove and catches it like 3/4ths and finishes. 5:50 You literally taught YOURSELF how to bs bigspin and nice work with that man. 👊
I could never back 180 😅 was much more a frontside guy. But definitely going to get a couple of different tricks figured out before I go back to what was comfortable when I skated.
I've been skating for over 30 years and never paid much attention to where my shoulders line up with the board, looking at Joslin's bigspin, he's already cranking his shoulders in like a 180 while popping his shuv, so naturally it kind of pulls that way with him. Just something to think about in the back of your mind while trying "turning" tricks.
Just to add to that, if you pause your backside 180 up the step-up, your shoulders are still 90 degrees and your feet are turned the full 180, try to bring your shoulders around more and it will probably pull that bigspin too. I'm in the same boat as you though, I would do bigspins and they shoot out on me because i didn't turn enough. I'm still trying to break a lot of old bad habits in my skating lol
Yeah there’s this position where your shoulders are ahead of your hips and you kinda need to get there a sit in that tucked position I have a tendency to come out too soon
@@localjoe I watched Cata Diaz do a switch fs big spin on a video recently and her front foot was completely covering both front bolts. I'd been trying them with my foot just behind the bolts until I saw that. It's helped with the rotation a lot. I can do reg and switch fs big spins on a shallow bank, getting closer to switch ones on flat and making baby steps with my regs on flat. Also, turn your back foot at a 45 degree angle on the tail, it really allows you to shove the hell out of the board once you've popped.
Yo I'm 45 years old and I'm the Chris Joslin of my block. And I invite all y'all to come on down to Bad Street Atlanta GA and y'all can watch me backside big spin over the 6 stair handrail at the Hazzard County Regional Quakers, Shakers, and Friends of Jesus Community Outreach and Social Justice Meeting House, and for a bonus I'll also tre flip the gap at the Bad Street Animal Shelter parking lot down onto Old Peachtree Parkway. After that we'll eat chicken and dumplings and sip sweet tea and chief blunts.
He looks like he catches it 90 then finishes the rotation in the air. I tried that in the past, but finished the rotation on the ground. Also, if you put your toes further in, away from the toeside pocket, it won’t half flip. Same with pop shuvs, same with big flips.
yo joe before you had made this video I was thinking of making a video titled "Chris Joslin taught me how to bigspin" and like I'd learn bigspins off how he does it you know, so I just wanted to know if it was cool with you that I make the video cause it's kinda similar to yours and I don't want it to seem like I'm copying off your stuff you feel me?
ua-cam.com/video/ag3-sY1LMoI/v-deo.html I already made a video with just about the exact same title. But I reckon people will start copying this format sooner or later so go ahead man!
@@localjoe ah dang, okay I'm prob gonna do something different just cause it feels wrong makin the same video lol, but I got another vid idea in mind, thanks bro👊
I met joslin right at that same spot he was walking and I stopped him. Thats my marker he's holding 😂 u must have approached him right after I stopped him
@@localjoe glad it looked worse than it was. I’ve. Ever been good at bs big spin but am going to try them just thinking about the bs 180 and letting the board come to my feet thanks for a good explanation
Why do you make videos about a specific trick and then do a bunch of other unrelated tricks that dont pertain to title of video?? Are just trying to showcase your catalog of tricks for a sponsorship every video or what??
Your commitment to content is top-notch, thanks for getting the goods from the source
Haha just was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. Not sure how I replicate it
Fr though
Not putting pressure on the toe side is genius. That is exactly what I'm doing wrong. Thanks dude
Yeah that makes it rotate a lot better and stay under you
Damn the tip about bs180/pop/bs180 and standing straight sounds like what I been missing. Cant wait to try it.
Bro hope it helps!
Another great video! Joslin is one of my favorite skaters for his power and finesse! Great breakdown of the trick!
Thanks for checking it out

Thanks for the video! So hyped to see the rest of this series :)
Glad you like it!
Hey man this is a really great idea got a series, looking forward to seeing more of it
Thanks my man!
What's funny for me I can back big spin and backside flip but I cant do just a simple back 180 lol I look like zoolander trying to turn left 😂
I’m not an omnispinner!
I had that exact problem at first. One day I decided I needed back 180s and spent a whole session learning it
Same!! I can pop a big back 90 though xD
Lol same I can only do really tiny shitty back 1’s
And somehow I can switch back 180 a lot easier
Bro ur gonna hit 10k this year fs🔥🔥
I hope I can! 🙏🏼
It so awesome that you meeting all the pros.
Yeah crazy blessing hope I can figure out how to meet more and ask more questions

You I got em kind of like a scoop back 180 and half way thru let the shuv go

i hope u asked someone how to fs big spin cuz i’m tryna learn them and they’re very frustrating but i’ll try to apply joslins tip for bs big
Haha I didn’t but i might try to learn it soon

You should wear a bigger shirt when skating. It will give you more style. Also, Nice vid
Makes total sense , back 180 then shuv not shuv then 180

Lol I love the striped shirt! I skate that shirt a lot!
How do you learn tricks so fast you should also learn back feebles
Bro it’s so tight to see skaters actually RESPOND back and not be uptight like actors or artists. Skate or die
Yeah they were all the nicest

You all sweaty and it’s obviously supper hot out side so why are you wearing winter tuke?
It keeps sweat out of my eyes try it
That’s how all skate tricks work imo. It’s all a one-two-step.
Do you make it yourself?
No it’s from epidemic sound links in my description

He popped that bs bigspin harder than my gmaws morning pills
Do a video about the update on batb about Aaron kyro he’s still on the bracket
Yeah probably should

Why do you wear your beanie like that? Looks ridiculous.
You’re music is sick in your videos
