    I see how those manatees would give you the yips - such massive bulk. They don't need to be aggressive to be dangerous to a kayak.
    Enjoyed the tarpon action - thanks John.

    That weather is perfect for backcountry fishing. So many people think that being in Florida and fishing bright sunny days, but when front moved through and the weather is roily and a little bit of rain, the bite is usually on: snook, tarpon, redfish… They all tend to get active as there is a moving front or storm coming through. Great job wonderful video! I live on the south east coast with some similar fishing environments and I really appreciate watching you hook up those tarpon.

    It is truly amazing how you find brown water holes that produce fish. Thank you again. David

    Those damn catfish are the vein of my existence. From the Hudson River where they eat dozens and dozens of 30 dollar bloodworms to florida where I can see and sight cast for snook and reds yet still pull em in.

    It's fun to see you catching fish in my home state. I grew up in Sarasota and fished a lot for snook, cobia, tripletail and the other usual suspects. But I never landed a tarpon. Now I'm by the Chesapeake Bay and it's just too cold for a FL Man to go fishin. April can't come soon enough! I just got a 7'6" rod for the spring and can't wait for the flounder to come back.
    Happy New Year! I hope 2025 is your best year yet.

    Forgive me Mr. Skinner but, 🤣😂🤣 "I'm not that interested in this spot". Jeez! I don't blame you. I looked up the average weight of an adult manatee. 800-1200 Lbs. 10 foot long.

    I was 3-3 there on Dec 22 (2 zman Herculez , 1 on cockroach fly) , went a week later zero bites, saw a few , marked a bunch , but there are alot of snook on the outgoing at the RR bridge at night in the lights. Think it needs to get colder , water is mid 70 s to 80s before this front and the poons don’t have to be locked into the warm water. Buddy has jumped a few on his skiff also in the past 2 weeks same spot . Nice job and Happy New Year.

      Thanks for that report. 3 is an awesome trip there! How deep are you running those Herculez lures? When I've tried deep the cats have bothered me.

      @@JohnSkinnerFishing same way you are working the fluke, slow with two to three pops, pause. Those sail cats and mullet are great chunk tarpon bait on that corner, you will hook some giants to 150 using them up there. Will be up there in the morning or at Ding Darling trying to get my January poon. Cheers

    The area gets inundated because of the hot water from the power plant where your fishing and they are probably curious to the kayak and noise from the motor

    Another great video. My son and I dream of catching Tarpon like that. We will be in your area in mid-March and I am wondering if tarpon will be in the area? I am guessing some of the small ones may be in back areas like the area you were shore fishing but wondering about the bigger ones near bridges.

  • @RickSaxon
    @RickSaxon День тому

    Not asking for your honey holes, but visiting Treasure Island area near Tampa the first 2 weeks of March. Looking for dock or beach fishing areas to try if you have any recommendations and are familiar with that area.

    Hello Mr Skinner. Always a great video. I have a question about the Limaglas rods that you built for the surf in the past. What blank did you use # and the length that you cut it to. Is the blank still available.? Thank you in advance. David

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  2 дні тому

      They actually make the blank and rod now - GSBSKINNER. The original is a GSB1201L with 10 inches off the butt.

    • @kevinmalavarca5468
      @kevinmalavarca5468 День тому

      @@JohnSkinnerFishingI've been using a similar version of the 120L--cut off 12 inches, added a few more guides. But when I was shopping for a 2 piece version, I ended up with the current Dark Matter Skinner 9'2" version. It can do everything my Lami can, plus I can squeeze it in the passenger seat of my Jeep! Now if I could only find a decent 2 piece substitute for my 1321M...

      Yes, smaller ones there in summer , then the larger return in September . The ones that don’t spawn in gulf move further up the river up to the lock
