hMmM tHis gAme sEems fAmiliar :} but you should know that the same dev of this game made a game called 'windowframe' that was about resizing windows instead, which may have been more thematic to combine into one video, and there's a few other meta games like this actually :) but this game is great, especially as a game jam game lol
The first game feels like it has the potential of Partrick's Parabox in terms of mechanics. Like, imagine different worlds, and you need to lime up your windows to connect the different worlds, open a second copy of the slider window to have 1 room link with 2 rooms for shenanigans, or using 2 slider windows for toggle blocks that show 2 of a color, a 3rd window perhaps, or even a slider inside a platforming level. Maybe 2 layered slider with toggle blocks that only activate if the upper layer slider is over them.
That first game really feels like a tech demo for a much longer, Bunburrows-esque puzzle game. Like, the base game is a dozen different, simple instances of classic game genres, only for you to reach the end of it and gain the ability to make the different games interact. Imagine a 9x9 minesweeper game giving the hints for a blank soduku card, or playing tetris to make a stairway for a platformer guy to climb up. That mechanic with the window positioning could be used to 'link' different games and start the meta puzzles. I could even see some lore develop around it with a "There is no Game"-style narrator trying to test their games for bugs and constantly commenting on how the player finds unique ways to break them.
I imagine the reason there aren't more games like the first is that it would be really difficult to program at scale, but has quite a lot of potential though.
The first game you played should be made into a full game digging into all the mechanics they have and how they interact awesome short game with massive potential
love the icons at the bottom of the screen, almost perfect, I wish they also had the correct icons and size, once I noticed I can't unsee the difference
I love both of these. I kind of want full length, more fleshed out versions of both of them that expand on their mechanics and have some more difficult puzzles.
There is one other game I can think of that required you to have two separate windows open, and that was "Who's Lila". It actually asks you to do it twice. The first is to access a characters fake facebook account (though this is technically unrequired, as the information you need is thankfully also in the game itself), and the second requires downloading the free "DLC" that serves a similar role to the "Slide" window in Hop/Slide (Albeit, the Puzzle/Mystery game version of it). Not sure it would be a great fit for the channel, but I thought I should still bring it up. ~~~ Actual suggestion: on the Flashpoint Archive, there are several escape room games by a developer called "Neutral". Vision, Linkage, RGB, Lights, Sphere, Switch, and especially Elements are some of the best escape room games I've ever played and manage to do a great job of actually making the player legitimately think. They also don't really have stories, and are just pure puzzle solving in fairly brightly lit escape rooms. Mostly very satisfying puzzle solving (Though the lack of dialogue or proper hint system did result in a few "wait, I could click on that?" moments that did legitimately suck). ~~~ Good Job on the video!
Between the two games i gotta say i absolutely loved the first one There's something i really like about games that play around with the game window and the instance of the game itself
Reminds me of the game 'Framed' where you moved around the scenes as the character proceeds. @Aliensrock played it on the channel but i recommend playing it yourself if anyone is interested in short puzzle game
there is a rogue-like bullet hell shooter game called "windowkill" that has even crazier window mechanics than the first game, and i think you should play it
For level 14, taking into account that the cannonball doesn't move with the puzzle pieces, there are two other solutions. The safer and easier solution would be: Move bottom to bottom left, and top left to bottom. The cannonball will go down, then right (redirected by an arrow), then down (redirected by another arrow). The moment it gets redirected by the down arrow at bottom right, switch bottom right with top right. If you time it correctly, the green block will be hit. The trickier solution (which I've verified to also work) is: Move bottom to bottom left, and top left to bottom. The cannonball will go down, then right (redirected by an arrow). Right after the redirection, switch bottom with bottom right. If you time it correctly, the down arrow will redirect the cannonball. Finally, switch bottom with top right. Again, if you time it correctly, the green block will be hit. Also, he walks on the cannons easily, as you saw in levels 12 and 13.
both games were incredible but the first game had some incredibly creative ideas put into it, whereas the second game is just a cool little puzzle game
By the way, Fancade, a mobile collection of fun minigames has a minigame similar to the second game. It's called Frames and it's also quite challenging!
You should try windowkill, it’s made of windows where you fight off against enemy’s and bosses using your cursor, your window and your abilitys from upgrading to win! You also have to keep expanding the closing window to see enemy’s, it is a new game and it is quite great, I played it myself found, when I unlocked a lazer guy, he was quite good
Hopslide at first I was like "okay some manipulation with sliding rooms, not *that* crazy" but then the green room happened with needing blocks in certain positions and then it more earned the windowed design in my eyes AND THEN THE RED ROOM.. okay wow.. actually using windowed mode was sick.. like meta puzzles being it's whole thing was really nice.. wish there was a win screen tho lol Tiny Fragments was a lot more.. contained.. like it didn't use *your* windows and just was rearranging scenes, still good puzzles but when compared to the metaness of Hopslide it just isn't *as* novel with the window idea... but it being a whole game with levels gives it points in my eyes Both are good, can't decide which I like more.. maybe Bob's game just because
I like Tiny Fragments better out of the two games - letting Lemmings AI handle the character movement while the player just manipulates the game world seems nicer than swapping back and forth between the platformer and the sliding block puzzle. HopSlide does do more with the mechanic between the blocks of varying sizes, the sliding block mechanic and the fourth wall breaking puzzles, but it's less polished.
I like Hop Slide more because it has original ideas and the puzzles were cool. The second game has a lot of copies (**or is a copy**) that have better room designs.
I think Hop and Slide was the more interesting of the two, largely due to how it played around with its gimmick. The other one was a little two straight forward with its puzzles.
I think this using some code from windowkill in windowkill you have an expanding window and a shop window and a menu window. bosses have their own window. when u reach that with the expanding window it appears in it.
the fact that one solution required having 2 instances of the game open is insane
Yeah thats so incredibly clever
Achievement Unlocled 2 be like:
Best
yeah. thankfully, this game is literally designed for overthinkers like me, so i was actually able to beat it with no help.
Reminds me of a off fangame called sincere deceit where you look up to abother game file to open a door as the puzzle is hidden there
My opinion in the first game progressed from "seems okay" to "kinda cool", then to "oh shit this rules" really fast. What a cool little game!
Yeah! They built onto it so well
There is another game made by the same person called "windowframe". it is exactly the same.
Woah. HopSlide is crazy. That seems like a pain to code, but it was totally worth it for the reveal of how to hold down two buttons at once.
seems fun to code if the API itself isn't pain
"editor feeding schedule"
the real question is what is so complex about a feeding schedule that he needs a spreadsheet and not just a word doc?;

One solution requiring you to have 2 instances of the game open is a reference to Achievement Unlocked 2

Hop slide's concept is extremely cool

Good Job on the video!
OneShot also requires you to use two windows for a section of the game
Tiny Fragments have such a huge Nitrome vibe to it. The UI, the artstyle, the music, the gimmick-based gameplay
Between the two games i gotta say i absolutely loved the first one
There's something i really like about games that play around with the game window and the instance of the game itself

Hopslide is an absolute classic imo, i always revisit it at least once a year

I love how you put so many little details in your videos. All the folders little edidted things.
You always found fun puzzle games to play! Been loving your recommendations as I've been playing it with my family together 😊
Hopslide was amazingly well made, could’ve used less flashing with the overlay though haha
Interesting! This is kind of like Sky Keep from Skyward Sword, you shift the dungeon rooms around as you go through the dungeon!
The second game reminded me of framed. Still waiting for that part 2 tyler
I really liked hop/slide, what an interesting and technically unique game.

For level 14, taking into account that the cannonball doesn't move with the puzzle pieces, there are two other solutions.

i'm more intrigued by the first one, the concept is pretty unique. the second one i've seen the idea before but the cannon interaction is interesting
I think I liked the first game a little better, it had more interesting mechanics, I don’t know how they’d expand on it, but I hope they can!

Hopslide might be one of the greatest things i've seen since Anor Londo
