Disturbed sound of silence?
Hey, how goes it..I said the, basically, the same thing. The only other thing that I can think of, that's 'on par' is Pink Floyd's live version of "Mother". Other than that, I couldn't agree more! It really goes to show just how "doctored up" studios can make a song sound. When the live performance sounds better than the original recording, that speaks volumes on the talent behind it. The more advanced the technology gets, the more artificial it gets. Unfortunately, those days are gone now. "Sampling" - Huh! My ass. I call it THEFT! Nowadays, "musicians" can't even write their own material. All we can do now is reminisce about the 'golden age'. When REAL music was actually played by talented musicians. Overnight, our whole world changed and the life we once enjoyed is gone. At least, we still have songs like this to take us back - if only for a few minutes. Thanks and stay safe. "Stay safe" seems to be the new "Farewell" of this new, horrible place..
Now that's the definition of a pro guitarist, no backing drums needed to keep in time, switches between rhythmic and lyrical in the blink of an eye. This guy is my hero

I got to see Billy Idol a few years ago and it's amazing to see and hear Steve Stevens perform live.
You can tell that he has had issues with time, hence the subtle Idol snapping in time of the fingers.

I have never seen a guy on a acoustic guitar carrying a song that good. The tempo exchanges, the noise differences and the style of playing changing so often...Just wow

Steve Stevens. Billy's original guitarist who wrote all these legendary riffs, and also is on the Top Gun theme song, and I think even maybe parts of Thriller. Underrated legend of tasteful shredding 80's, with tons of rockabilly chops as well. Along with Neil Gerald probably the best two IMO of that decade.

I stood next to Steve Stevens while he did a sound check. No one there but him... the sound board crew... and me. He played like the world was watching. As he was playing he walked down the stage, out to the sound board, turned around and listened to the sound while he shredded that guitar. So effortless and so incredible. When he was done, I told him he had hands of gold. He smiled and said "Thank you but you're too kind".
He's a class act.

Ive said it numerous this guy is ALL CLASS. Phenomenal creative guitar genius and a hell of a person. He is a salt of the earth type guy covered in guitar wizard robe....always appreciated his personal demeanor and words given to a friend of mine who was quietly dealing w alot of depression while Steve was visiting a recording studio school 20 years ago. Steve saved this guys life and never knew it. If i strike it rich, Im hiring these two guys to jam in my back yard. Anyone on this page can come.

Actually prefer the the " OLD " version with Brian playing while seated. They were all young & hungry then. It showed ! Mick actually sang the song with conviction instead of mouthing the words to this awesome song. Never will Mick EVER sing it like he did back then ! EVER ! I love the acoustic guitar Keith plays on this version. Just think Mick did it WAY better back in the day.
2:35 You can actually see the brotherhood of these 2 old rockers as they are actually leaning on each other. Their friendship and collaboration is the envy of so many bands that actually hate each other. Bravo to these 2 great rockers!

May 2005. My girlfriend of almost 2 years and I are at a Billy Idol concert in Oklahoma City. It was a standing room only show (Maybe 500 people). During this song when he sings "I give you all and have nothing", I grabbed her left hand and slipped a diamond on her ring finger. I didn't get on my knees or make a big scene. We just smiled at each other and my wife got misty eyed. We didn't say anything, we just finished enjoying the show.
I aspire to reach levels of this smoothness!

Wow.......... it literally brings tears in my eyes. Billy is divine. Sound amazing, note for note, no help from sound machines , pure crystal voice. But Steve is the real hero here. Riffs, solo, turns, finger picking, everything in one session. EVERY guitar player should take example of that performance. Brake it in parts, and master every magic turn. Thank you guys. You make the music world a better pace........

Just fabulous. Steve Stevens is such a unsung guitar hero. Billy Idol is the best. Rebel Yell, in my opinion, is in the top 50 of all time rock songs. These guys are so talented to be able to pull off such an excellent acoustic version.

Saw them last week - off the hook good sounding. Billy is freaking 67 years old, hasn't lost a step, and has the body of a 35 year old - if I looked like that I'd never wear a shirt! What a treat it was!

Because of this version of the song I started playing guitar. Even 5 years later this version of the song is still amazing. Steve is always the guy in the background but he made Billy sound what he is.

This is THE VERY BEST version of Rebel Yell I've ever heard! I first heard this on 98 ROCK in Baltimore and I was blown away! It's almost as though it was written to be acoustic! The guitar solo is astounding! Amazing to watch it done. He just goes OFF THE CHAIN! Simply put: Badass! Love it! And, for the longest time, I couldn't find it anywhere! There are now quite a few different iterations of it and each one is entirely different. This is one of the shorter ones, but awesome just the same. I encourage you to look for more. The one on 98 ROCK was almost 10 minutes long! 5 of which are the guitar solo itself. So, keep looking down the page because they just keep getting better and longer. This is just a taste of what's coming! Love it! Thanks, Man!
