I swear I've seen that final image of the Dregpike running before! I think it might have been in my grandfather's hands for some time, as he liked to collect this sort of curious images. I think it was just a print, not the original. What a coincidence to see it again!
I have never heard of this before. It is absolutely fascinating!!! I fish in the Lake District myself. I love cryptids, especially Sasquatch but I believe all these stories are just so strange they have to be true!! Thanks for posting!! Subbed!!
So glad I found this channel, your aesthetic is incredibly nostalgic and well made, I'm sure you'll blow up! (Also as an East Anglian I'm hoping we get an episode on the Black Shuck)
Stunning. Thanks for all your hard work retrieving this treasure. May you have similar luck in future searches for new episodes of British Cryptids! This is work of the highest quality so many thanks for all your efforts.
If it wasn't so extensively documented, I would imagine that it was some sort of spinosaur. A group of biped, carnivorous dinosaurs known for their slender snouts and affinity for aquatic environments. Maybe a highly evolved relative of the endemic Baryonyx that exchanged the saurian tail for a mane-like crest of feathers.
That is a great hypothesis Gandalf. Perhaps the answer lies somewhere in there.. As the film explains, there is at least one documented relict fish living in one lake in Cumbria. Maybe other species were trapped and survive there?
@@whinnymoor8155 yeah likely. But I Cuz I've remember an some sort of legend my freinds grandfather told me. Like it's 1959. Summer and there and the police found some girls It was a mother and daughter and the mother had loads of wounds. And died due to them however the daughter was freaking out and said two legged lizards attacked them. I can't remember where this was. But however. I think he said there was a tail his father told him about a featherless bird with scalies attacking livestock. I don't know what era this was on tho.
Absolutely brilliant. My favourite channel by far. Unfortunately there are just not enough uploads. Will you be making anymore? This is my second time watching The Cumbrian Dregpike and i was rivetted again. Thankyou.
Along with the woodwose video, this is the best I've seen on this channel They are so much better and more convincing than the ones with jarring and ill fitting AI
Thanks for that Olab! Water horses - that is: amphibious or aquatic equine creatures with fish fins - are fairly common across Northern Europe. What makes the Cumbrian Dregpike unusual is that it has the body of a fish and only the mane and the back legs of a horse.
Only finding this channel now. My god you need more eyes on this. Amazing style! Not sure if actual old doc footage or some fantastic editing and writing. I have my suspicions but I'll never tell 🤫😉
Thanks Danielle! The women are so-called "China Girls" - here's the entry from wikipedia: "In the motion picture industry a China Girl is a type of test film, an image of a woman accompanied by color bars that appears for a few frames (typically one to four) in the reel leader. A "China Girl" was used by the lab technician for calibration purposes when processing the film (with the still photography equivalent being a "Shirley Card"). The origin of the term is a matter of some dispute but is usually accepted to be a reference to the models used to create the frames - either they were actually china (porcelain) mannequins, or the make-up worn by the live models made them appear to be mannequins."
This is great! I've never heard of this Dregpike before and i know quite a lot about cryptids. I wonder what they eat then normaly since its not everyday a person or a horse is going to just walk or fall into these lakes
Different types of 'sea monster' are particular to sections of ocean/coastal areas, the predominant European type is the long head-haired variety. Might be a connection. Can't help but think some of these were murders or cover-ups for manslaughter.
Hello Puff! I don't know what genre this would be called... But Thorsten Schmidt also did the music to the 1972 children's supernatural TV series 'Hereford Wakes'. You can hear that here: herefordwakes.bandcamp.com/album/hereford-wakes
@@BritishCryptids Would Thorsten be so kind as to leave his master tapes for the British Cryptids soundtrack in an attic somewhere for you to find and upload to bandcamp so I can give you money for it please?
That picture at minute 17 has to be fake. Think about a 1920 camera. They'd gotten better and things in motion could certainly be captured in a picture but why would you have a camera set up in the middle of a chase. If they had killed the stag first I could believe it possibly but it's too much
This channel is criminally undersubscribed.
We're trying B S!!

What an incredible story I had never heard of a Dreg Pike. The final image of it chasing the hunt is somewhat chilling.

What a fantastic storyteller! You are a great narrator and this has fantastic editing etc. I’d never heard of this cryptid, this was fascinating x
Thank you for your kind comments @Embercant
I love that you guys never break kayfabe! I'd love to see you produce a feature length TV show/movie.
Appreciate that @Grandmastergav86 !
How this channel doesn't have a million subs is crazy. Favourite channel

Them: Do you believe we went to the moon?

Thank you Mark 😂
Love this video! Great atmosphere and presentation throughout, and can't wait to see what's next!

some good classic accounts there and photos. Makes you wonder. Cheers

These videos are always so good!
Very kind of you to say so Konggodzuko!
These videos are put together amazingly and I can confirm certain aspects of these reports as a cumbrian native.

In southern Scandinavia we have Bäckahästen (the Stream Horse), very much alike the Kelpie.

Hello CK! I guess they eat other fish and any other animals they can catch on land as well as in the water.
Luv the soundtrack ;)

Has the image of the running dregoike resurfaced in recent decades? Does anybody in the comments know if it's been analyzed by photography experts?
Thanks for your query @arthurshort6619. To my knowledge I'm afraid the answer is no.
Excellent!
Thanks David!
I really want to know who had gloves made from human skin, to determine they were critical in catching that cheeky pike.
Thanks Dan! There is an interesting story about that, which is covered in a future British Cryptids film.
