British Cryptids (1974)
United Kingdom
Приєднався 16 кві 2021
Produced in 1974, the British Cryptids films were presumably destined to be sold to a UK broadcaster - either the BBC or ITV - but anecdotally they seem to only have been shown at schools and ended up languishing in public libraries.
The video files we recovered from the Internet Archive (which no longer seem to be online) were fragmentary and jumbled up. We have pieced together the clips as best we can. We leave it to the viewer to imagine what may be missing.
Amongst the titles we were able to acquire are: ‘Yorkshire Yeti’, ‘The Hereford Twiggywitch’, ‘Stag Men’, ’The Souter Sea Wolf’, ‘The Cumbrian Dregpike’ and 'The Woodwose of Cannock Chase', but the catalogue numbers on each film suggest that there could be many more.

European Cryptids: The Baba Skalna
"By their very nature, most cryptids seem to hide and even cower from Man. But there are some that appear driven to hunt people. Such a creature inhabits the Tatra mountains of Southern Poland. In English the name translates as Rock Hag. The Polish hill shepherds call it Baba Skalna."
Following the 'British Cryptids' film series in 1974, Whinny Moor productions expanded their scope to cover the European continent. Produced in 1975-76, the 'European Cryptids' films also failed to find a UK broadcaster and seem to have had a limited distribution at British schools before ending up languishing in public libraries.
We have recovered a number of 'European Cryptids' films and will continue to restore and release them on this channel, along with the remaining 'British Cryptids' films.

Amazing production values. Love the whole series. If you're a fan of horror and/or Forteana - you've got to give this channel a go
Thank you for your kind comment @andrewmorton4776 🙏
6:35 looks like Andre The Giant in The 6 Million Dollar Man.
Just saw this and the others you put on UA-cam....Awesome...ahh..the good old days of better tv!!! Mostly junk and CGI crap these days..not to mention the people running around the woods with night vision saying "did you see that"...well no I didn't!!!!! Didn't see a thing.

The Woodwose
I live in hednesford on the edge of the chase i am 55 lived most my life here never heard of the woodwose of cannock chase lol there are plenty of dogger spots so you have to be careful which road you go down on the chase 😂
Superb bit of film. Myself and my team of paranormal investigators once experienced wood knocks and something heavy being slammed into the forest floor and this happened in the March of 2019 up on a plateau overlooking the area of the Stepping Stones. Then, in the July of 2019, I was with three others down from Castle Ring towards a large house by Horse Pastures Pool when the three I was with left me alone on the path as they went to have a look at the very expensive house. On this occasion I heard something or someone stepping from side to side behind me on the edge of the woods but when I turned around there was nothing there and yet I continued to stare at one specific spot as if I was looking at something, it was all very 'Predatorish' (the movie). In the June or July of 2021, myself and a friend who was an urban explorer went to find Beaudesert Hall. Finding it wasn't easy and we had to bush wack a route up to where it was in 29 degree heat but we eventually located it. As we descended back down from Beaudesert Hall, we locked onto a long path that seemed to be heading in the right direction. I was filming at the time and the chap I was with was way down the path. So I was essentially on my own but within eyesight of my friend. As I stood filming I caught a whiff of something noxious from the thick ferns and trees, but the smell quickly dissipated. I then panned my camera down the path and my friend suddenly jumped back from the tree line and the thick bushes that lined the tree line. I quickly made my way down and he immediately told me to be still and listen. We heard a low huffing sound and then whatever it was moved away. About another 50 metres down the path we were figuring out the next path to take and as we moved off my friend noticed a massive foot print shaped hole. And we then noticed another 3 or four of these holes but they were in the right direction and shape for foot steps but too far apart for us to copy with our strides. I also discovered that there is, allegedly, a leyline that sits right where we found the footprints. And then there have been 4 occasions where rocks have been thrown or landed not too far from us. 1) A forested area down from the German Cemetery in 2019 2) An area close to woods by the German Cemetery in 2023, 3) Just off Marquis Drive by Penkridge Bank Road on the edge of Birches Valley, and 4) the other end of Birches Valley not too far away from the activities centre. I've documented most of these events on my channel in one form or another.

17:02~ 17:45 Too bad that skull had vanished just like the Peking Man. If that skull didn’t disappear, we can find out the true identity of Woodwose by DNA test.
When I worked with the TA about 14 years ago I used to take the reserves up to the Chase to use the training area and stay in the Cadet building. I used to run around and set up an orienteering course on the second night of training for the morning before we left. I’d run out as far as Dick Slee’s Cave and around and back in , possibly about 3 miles to the cadet building. I never saw anything but heard what must have been deer in the trees? And the lads always seemed happy for me to crack on and do it. 🤣🤣👍
Absolutely criminal these videos don't get more views.
@@iskende Thank you so much for saying so 🙏🏻
I find it interesting that the documentary gives credulous reports of the variety of narratives discussed herein discussing the woodwose, and then utterly discounts the Patterson-Gimlin film as a man in an ape suit. Other than that, I found the documentary to be well-written and quite insightful!
@@dsbmitchell Thank you for your comment 🙏🏻. In 1970s Britain the Patterson-Gimlin film was openly mocked and seen as a somewhat clunky hoax. But perhaps it was collective jealousy that the UK didn’t have its own homegrown Sasquatch… (or did it ?🤔)
@@BritishCryptids You’re welcome and thank you for providing that context! I had no idea that the PGF received that treatment in the UK, though outside of the Bigfooting community in the US, it has received similar treatment as well. Not long ago I commented on a rather popular UA-cam channel video that was essentially attempting to debunk a number of popular videos on the subject (including the PGF). I found it to be lazy, ill-informed, and disinforming, but if the majority of the comments were any indication, the channel’s fans loved the video. *Sigh* In any case, I appreciate the historical context that you have offered here in your comment and by posting this video, and I have subscribed to your channel 🙏🏾

Please tell me you were inspired by the classic Goon Show episode "The Yethi". If you weren't, the co-incidence is staggering!
Never heard of this. Thank you!
They are the Neanderthals who survived in these days, hiding out in deep woods and caves. And not just in Britain, these Neanderthals hid out in woods, caves, and mountains in the Alps, Siberia, Capcases, and somewhere in Europe mountains. For example, there is a unique festival in Lötschental Swiss a men dress up like woodwose called Tschäggättä and frighten the people, especially women and children. These Tschäggättä are inspired by Neanderthals who hunted down modern humans as a food source during the ice ages. In the 1850s there was a genocide by local farmers who killed 18 Neanderthals at an order of the arch-bishop which appeared on the forest.
That’s definitely a Neanderthals which even survived in this day.
An instant classic! Happy to see the hard work of such talented artists. So thrilled to see an expanded geographic scope as well. Had a watch party for this episode with a bunch of friends last night and we all paused throughout trying to spot various details. Perhaps my favorite UA-cam series of all time
Thank you so much for your kind comments @Epic0Studios, hope you enjoyed spotting the Easter egg 🙏🏻😇
Whoever you are, you fractured my reality in a wonderful poetic way. Igull Magnusson to Barry Green Electro-musical composer the transition is so absolutely absurd, it's so absolutely believable...
Thank you for this - it means a lot to us 🤷🏻♂️
Sheep allways worried in wales 😳
Absolutely true. The misshapen offspring are always pushed back over the border into England, which accounts for your mother and your sister.
Old English wuduwassan comes from wud - wood, and wasse - to exist, so that which exists in the woods. As for "wild people", there have been wild people ever since there have been civilised people with which to judge them against. The Ghillie Dubh said to once inhabit the forests of Galloway, said to wear moss, lichens and leaves, was said to be friendly and help those, especially children, who were lost in the woods. The Brown Man of the Moors near Newcastle was a short but powerful man, protector of the creatures of the moors. There is the recent well documented case of the so called Monkey Boy of Uganda, recovered from the jungle aged about 7 he claimed when taught to speak he'd been kept alive by monkeys bringing him fruit. He was covered in hair as photos showed and had to be completely shaved when admitted to an orphanage. As an adult today videos show him to be smooth skinned with no need to shave anywhere other than his head. It shows that going wild can result in unusual bodily hair growth which is quite unlike hypertrichosis, as in the cases of bearded ladies once exhibited in Victorian freak shows.
Along with the woodwose video, this is the best I've seen on this channel They are so much better and more convincing than the ones with jarring and ill fitting AI
so great to see you posting again! been waiting for these, the narrators voice always gets me! so immersive and high quality work from you guys ❤

My grandmother was born in Cambelltown. A tiny island in the western islands. I wonder if the ‘Ramflagle’ was a word she used or heard in stories. Great channel. 💯❤️❤️
This theme you have going is so close to the style of those documentaries that, until I watched more of your videos and saw the obvious ai art and animations, I was genuinely thinking I stumbled upon lost media. I used to love watching old documentaries like these. You sir and or madam, are an artist.
Glad you like them!
@@BritishCryptids Were you inspired by a docuseries called "the most evil men in history" (I don't remember the actual name)?
There's some Challenge butter in my fridge right now. I'm not sure the art influences my purchase, it is better quality, and not over salted.
I feel like the princess was doing alot more then just "exploring" the mountains...
You do? Would you like to expand on that?
Is this a real show from the 70s the background ambient track and the whole show is very good is and that silent film might be lost media now.
What’s the significance of Whinny Moor? We have streets near us called Whinney Moor and it’s weird to see it mentioned again
Thanks for the question... there is an ancient belief in Britain that the souls of the dead had to cross a threshold, a liminal space imagined as being a gorse moor. The purity of the life lived would influence how difficult or easy this walk would be for the departing soul. "Whin-" is an old English word for "furze" or "gorse" or similar rough, thorny vegetation. Hence "Whinny Moor" came also to be the name of "Corpse Roads" - those tracks that a funeral procession might take to deliver the dead to their place of internment.
The soundtrack gives me clockwork orange vibes
Thank you 🙏🏻
What a fantastic storyteller! You are a great narrator and this has fantastic editing etc. I’d never heard of this cryptid, this was fascinating x

One more story on UA-cam: „Near death experience in the Black Forest“ narrated by „Dixie Cryptid“. This is the Black Forest in southern Germany 🇩🇪. I was there 3 years ago. What a huge forest! Incredible. They have 102 Mountains there with 1000 meters (3280 feet) high and higher. Greetings from Linz Austria 🇦🇹 Europe!
To other potential commentators, AI is fine. It’s just a tool. There’s nothing wrong with using it, especially for no-budget projects. Big “yells at cloud” energy from some of you
