While I am not in any way a "civic" guy, I absolutely love this series! In my humble opinion, you are either a car guy or you are not. Car guys like cars - anything to do with them. That being said, You dont owe us an explanation (you really dont owe us anything) as we are here because we love cars and enjoy what you do and how you do it! I would not worry too much about those who judge what you do with your time, business and money. Negativity simply isnt worth it. Thank you for all the effort and time you put into creating content that actually helps others who do not have the time to invest in researching everything. For many of us, making time to do the things we enjoy is a real struggle and having someone that takes some of the tedious side of things out of it affords many of us more time to do what we like to do rather than what we are obligated to do.
@@derekgray1633 Same, I've owned lifted trucks, turbo civics, old school cadillacs, new cadillacs, ls swapped truck etc. A cool vehicle comes in all shapes and sizes.
This is insane. I had my audio system done in my EM1 about a year and a half ago but it looks nothing like this. Now I want to build a similar audio system one day. Nice job!
Amazing. I have been waiting on this video since you started this build. I’ve been a car audio guy since the late 80’s. I started with A/D/S, Alpine 7909 etc. I can truly appreciate this build.
Man Matt this is by far one of my favorite builds you've done. I love the juxtaposition of you going all out on a civic out of many other things and its honestly the best to see people do what they want to the cars they love. Cant wait for suspension!
My buddy used to own a nagaro blue e34 with a sounds in motion stereo setup. Truly a work of art. I used to own my own install business back in the day and built many of nice SPL and SQ setups and they're work is nothing short of excellent. Thanks for sharing
Both my dad an I still run JL Slash amps for our subwoofers. The amount of power and sound quality of those slash amps are incredible and are the reason they're still sold 20 years later.
This is crazy and wonderful. Thanks for sharing. I can relate so much to wanting to do a uncompromised modern version of the dream car of my early years. This brings a big smile to my face!
I love this series and the stereo install. That being said I don't know why they soldered to the chassis.. My OCD is going insane cause that doesn't look clean. Rather have the wire soldered to a ring terminal and bolted to the chassis.
I wish I could have seen this build when it was happening. But now works just fine. I can look at ways to change mine . Thanks for sharing! Beautiful build
All the crazy. Do what you love! A friend bought an em1 electron blue a few years ago and sold it for a cleaner one partially because the first one had sound deadening everywhere. After 20 years it was quite the challenge to remove.
I come from the same world out of car audio Mecca in Arizona. Sound In Motion did some fantastic work for you. I am glad to see the art is not all lost with prefab shit. The price tag can only be justified by the end user. 100% custom work with an unbelievable attention to detail for the most discerning of customers. Congrats Matt! Enjoy the hell out of it!
I've been in and around the car audio scene since the 90's. I was absolutely hooked the first time I felt my heart skip a beat. I've designed, built, installed, and tuned more systems than I can count. I'm a bit OCD and attention to detail is #1. While there is without a doubt value in the equipment used on this build (~$12k), the materials, the fit, and the finish are sub-par for $13k. I'm just not seeing work worthy of $475/hr. There are faster ways to build more efficient and less costly enclosures. A sound off video doesn't compare but without it we're left to wonder... What about tuning? Distortion metering? Gain levels? SPL? How was the box tuned? In the end your happiness is all that matters. Love the content!
seems like they were like, plenty of room for the bass to leave here (points at some half assed non symmetrical ports, I am like what is it tuned to, what is the airspace of the enclosure, seems like they have no idea either.
The shop is 15 minutes from my house. He uses a Audio control RTA. I’ve listened to his builds. They are on par! Look up the shop “Sound in motion” in Boston Massachusetts.
less than sub par. woeful for dropping that amount of money on it. lovely 3 ways and the install is so poor. all the people in the comments with no idea and just drooling because he said it cost 25k. cheapo 14 gauge cable into the "subs" and I actually laughed about his "thundering bass comment" . Not from those subs fella. Also one amp looks like doing everything so there's definitely not a lot of power for the system at all. Those door builds and kick builds were just the worst. I can't believe how bad they were, and even more criminal for 25k. They saw him coming and took him for a mug. They're laughing all the way to the bank. The sub box construction was nicely done and thats about it. Compare this to a decent installer like PS Sound, or Soundman or Mark at Caraudiofabrication, miles apart in quality of install. painful to watch this garbage, and then see all the sycophants in the comments with their tongues up his arse. I'd love to see the state of the tuning that this guy would even attempt after it if this is their level of install. garbage.
OG forgot to mention. Back in 99’ he’d order a Bomex Body Kit and Spoon engine. Plus, he also went to Harry’s. Bought 2 T66 tutbos, with nos and Motek exhaust
Sound in Motion did my system build last year. Same Mosconi amp but I had the Morel 38 limited Edition for a front stage (2- way). They did a great job, hid everything.
That install looks superb awesome work, can't wait for more Civic content. Hope you do a review of the Koch chemie stuff you got the hole line-up standing in the back.
These guys are true craftsmen. I have been in the construction industry for more than 25 years and I watch skilled tradesmen disappear everyday. All these people are here complaining about how much this install cost and I’m just over here amazed that someone finally found a good use for Windex. 😂😂
Nice to see all the dynaudio gear! I'm doing a build in my '88 c1500 single cab. I live about 15 minutes away from Sound in motion. I get all my equipment from them . They truly are a top notch business. Derek is a super knowledgeable and genuinely nice guy. Obsessed Garage but we can still get an idea of the bass and clarity. Although won’t be like sitting in your car it may give us viewers the slight feel of what it could possibly sound like
I just upgraded radio, 4 speakers, got a sweet subwoofer box and dynamat and it quickly added upto $3000aud in my $5k car. When you do it gradually you think its cheap but when you add it up I can see how quickly it adds up. To start off with I had a 10 inch sub, then went to a slim 12 inch but quickly wasnt enough, so went to a dual 12 inch ported box. It start of simple but becomes complicated, my radio had no RCA output so I changed to pioneer, then the car rattled from the bass so I went all out with dynamat, then I had no easy way to turn bass down so I added a bass knob and volt meter, which means new RCA's, the wire I needed to be really flexable and car audio specific power wire aint cheap, also I went from 12 gauge, to 8 gauge then 3rd wire upgrade I went to 4 guage which my amp neeeds. I pulled door panels off maybe 10 times until every rattle was gone which wasnt good for the plastic. I could stop but I still have cheap pioneer speakers with no amplification, so technically I could easily match the price of the car by changing to premium speakers, with amplification. I get bad voltage drop so change to a larger more efficient amp and upgrade alternator and add a second battery. This would easily take it upto $5000 just for a basic stereo which is reliable and strong, but nothing impressive at all in terms of SPL or sound quality.
Holy crap brah. This is crazy... i love it.... my truck is my obsession. My best friend and i have been building this thing for months. One piece at a time. It's gone through about 30 versions to get where we are now. It's in my mind somewhere between spl and sql. I've never really heard an actual sq setup.i am a poor boy. So in my mind my truck is great. I got a set of polk audio momo 6.5 from 2002 ish. I have had to put new surrounds on them but they are still great sounding for being almost 20. My sub count is over kill but they are not the same subs and i have a variety of box types and sub sizes. Currently looking for more space to add a pair or set of sq subs. Who knows how this will work out. Its a labor of love
SiM nailed it. They built some of best sounding comp cars back in the day. After 22 years in the audio game, I’ve never seen soldering to the chassis for the ground. Love all the attention to details. Also the kicks and doors look amazing with the Dyns. All period correct for the age of the car. Love it. I saw a video of it with Metallica playing in it. I don't mind paying around 5 to 6k on a solid all active SQ system, not including the deck and digital audio player but, 24K is way beyond what I feel is worth doing with my 2015 Toyota Camry just for the sound system because I want to put 6 to 7k on Katzkins leather, custom paint job, aftermarket headlights and taillights, and custom RGB LED accent lights.
I have an ex model of this model and just did a B16b type r swap, and you just did my dream sound system. I love the stealth. A question I have though is why didn’t you guys do the 6x9 speakers that go in the rear deck?
I knew there was a reason I could relate. I started selling car stereos in 2000, had a 1995 accord and a local had just won the IASCA world finals with a 1994 accord from Warrenton OR. So I wanted to have a car that sounded almost as good without the budget he spent. I used JL slash amplifier fiberglass W3 enclosure that I built and JL XR seps. I realized car audio wasn’t going to be a career so I switched to banking. Love what your doing with the civic. I always preferred everything but the civic because most had coffee can exhaust tips and made a lot of noise but grandmas Volvo could easily pass them.
I just love how he uses the scrap sound deadening chunks under the rear speaker cover. That would always be in the back of my mind knowing it’s half ass!
She's gonna need a 24K anti-theft system soon
Every car tuner shops dream phone call, "My name is Matt and I have a Civic project".
They took his money for sure. They failed to deliver IMO.
