I am most impressed not only by the quality of your videos, but by the fact that you always reply to people who leave comments. Apart from being good PR, it suggests that your really are a diamond geezer. Er, that's it.
I still have no idea after six months why this channel ended up in my suggestions, but apparently the UA-cam algorithm knows something I don’t. I’m mesmerised by the videos, how they are put together, and it’s such a relaxing treat to watch them. Thank you, and safe voyages.
Thank You David. I’ve enjoyed your videos several times through the series. It was a nice treat to see your new posting. Like a Sunday morning present. We appreciate what you’re doing. Thank You for giving us all a glimpse and escape into a more calm life than our regular corporate rat race. Ahhhh another 10-15 minutes of calm, quiet, and relaxing pleasure. Steve. Sacramento California
I'm surely not the only one who watches the video on one monitor while using a second monitor and Google Maps to see the rest of the area. It's enjoyable to watch, even though I'm thousands of miles away and have no real interest in boating. Keep up the fantastic work!
I never realized how beautiful England is until I started watching your vlogs. Thanks , David, you brightened an otherwise chilly, blustery Fall day here in Michigan 😏
New to your channel. Just wanted to say that not only is your narration interesting and well spoken but your voice is very soothing. It's nice to hear a narration with interesting wording.
I live on an island off of Canada’s west coast, in the heart of a temperate rainforest. I’m surround by brilliant green water filled with life, mountains capped with snow, spectacular First Nations art and a year round mild climate... by any description, paradise. All that, and I can’t get over how beautiful the UK country side is in your vlogs.
I am enjoying the past vlogs but i do miss new vlogs from the narrowboat days. I enjoy the new ones and learning about a variety of things about the canals.
I live in Evesham and I’ve just been looking through your videos to find this! Brilliant video highlighting the beauty of the town, especially with the centre piece of the river! Loved recognising all of the landmarks you highlighted, as the town isn’t one that is ‘widely’ known. We had a massive food in 2007 which is why there is a lot of flood protection etc. in place. The park that sits to the left following the Rowing Club did once house the Abbey which was connected to the Bell Tower and Church up to the top . Obviously, Henry VIII had it destroyed in the dissolution of the monasteries! Loved seeing you cover the town so well!
I'm going through your videos for the 2nd time now , mostly because (a) they are truly delightful , and take place mostly in my old stamping ground , the midlands , & (b) during lockdown , it's such a pleasure to watch the gentle pace and quiet enjoyment to be taken from the scenery and lapping of the water against the hull. It's lottery night tonight 01/09/20. If I win , I may join on you , cruising the cut :)
I’m kinda binge watching these vlogs and generally have them on in the background while I work on my laptop. This particular video made me sit up and take notice. Many years back after leaving college I moved north (ish) from London and took a job at the Wood Norton hotel. This brought back lots of happy memories. Keep making these strangely calming and informative videos.
I'm 29 an own my own 16ft cabin cruiser, watching you travel on a canal boat makes me want to move on to one an relax at a slow place an travel the UK's water ways !
Hi David... We met you today at your inconvenience ;-) Very excited to meet you in person, and that you were literally the first to hear our exciting news. Hope to meet you again on the cut. Thanks again for your inspiration... Jem & Trish
Wonderful, thank you again. Many years ago on a business trip to London my client invited me instead to their Cheltenham office. I rented a car, had a great trip and stopped to photograph unbelievably green and peaceful Evesham along the way. Such memories...
This is a reminder of my only narrow boat experience : 35 years ago with my daughter and her cousin, both 10, and we were joined by a friend for the first 2 nights. We went as far as Pershore in one direction and Stratford upon Avon in the other. The only mishaps were a bash trying to get into the Evesham lock going towards Pershore and losing the canal guide due to a sudden gust of wind. Whenever we went through locks or had to tie up, the 10 year old cousin became a crack hand at taking the tiller while I did the potentially risky bits. We had a fabulous time and still talk about it too this day.
Wow. Nice to see the pull-ferry still in service after all these years. I remember seeing it in an episode of Rosie and Jim. Thank you, UA-cam for suggesting this channel.
Morning David, Another interesting Vlog. The river looks perfect for cruising. The house on the side of the river looked interesting as well. Quite big and manor house looking. The locks were a bit fierce, the paddle was madness!! Glad you are enjoying your journey.Look forward to your next vid.Thank you. keep safe in the windy weather on the river.
I am still amazed at the engineering and work it took to make the rivers and canals navigable. And when you see a bridge from the 15th century still standing you have to admire the workmanship. I wonder just how much of our public works will be around in 400 years.
I’m watching your old vlogs with deep nostalgia, remembering what drew me to your channel in the first place! Although interested in the new style interviews I do miss your dry sense of humour and delightfully random, laidback commentary.
it was Sunday morning , we are just waking up end with coffee in hand .We enjoyed your cruise up the Avon. Last year we were in Stratford on the Avon where I got to see my first narrow boats. We visited the River trust narrow boat exhibit . Really enjoy your vlog . Terry & Bess
I live in tropical north Australia, this sort of scenery and architecture is reminiscent of stories I read and movies like wind in the willows. Thanks.
That was very enjoyable and was clear enough for me to follow the route on Google Earth and could 'jump off' and have a wander around the points of interest.
Great video. I really enjoy your Vlogs, not only do we get to see a lot of your native land but the bits of history are great as well. Makes for a nice Sunday afternoon with a relaxing video and a small cocktail. Cheers from the US.
At 2:45 these look like archimedes screw pumps. I work with this type of pump daily and they are great at moving large amounts of water and require little maintenance. I think (just guessing) they are used when water levels are low and will send the water which is used in the lock back up stream. Thanks for your great videos and look out for future comments from me while I binge watch them all. 👍
A bridge from the 14th century? That is what is so great about your country. So much history. If you see a bridge in America from the 14th century, you are surely lost.
These "alive" trees are willows used for basket-weaving. The young, flexible stalks are harvested for baskets, garden chairs or other wicker goods, so they never get the opportunity to grow solid big branches. Hi! I've only recently started watching but working my way through all your vlogs and thoroughly enjoying. I'm a merchant captain by trade but interested in getting a narrow boat later on in life! I don't know if someone has suggested this already but the sheer you experienced in the big locks could be down to bank effect. This is due to pressure differences at the bow as the water pushes through the water causing an area of high pressure. Water then accelerates down the side of the boat causing an area of low pressure. The consequence of this is that the bow will sheer away from a bank, or lock wall. This would be less noticeable in small locks or even counteracted as both sides of the bow would be sheering off each wall but could be felt in the much wider locks. Apologies if you already know of this! Google 'ship interaction' if you want to know more
Glad you like the videos. Yes, a few other people have also suggested that in the comments but I like to think it's mystical river creatures playing havoc with me ;-)
Very nice trip. Well nice for me as I didn't get bounced around the Locks. Those Tudor houses looked almost original.Portraiture of Queen Elizabeth I popped into my head covered with jewels and expensively draped in yards and yards of fabric killing the working class with taxes to pay for it all. Just love color coding. It's so fast and easy. So relaxing to watch your vlog I think I need a lie down.😋
Such enjoyable watching ! Thank you. Do you ever consider carrying on vlogging after you have moored up? We would love the story to continue into your boat to watch you ‘sort out’ for the coming lunch time / evening etc. 😊
I remember hiring a boat out of Evesham Marina many years ago, due to take charge on Saturday, but not being let out until Monday due to flow in the river. I was fairly experienced by then and was with someone even more experienced and we pleaded our case to be let out on the Saturday. The person we were hiring from asked us to go and have a look at the river and come back and let him know what we thought...we did...and we agreed we'd be happy to stay in the marina until the flow subsided a bit!!! It would have been like white water rafting! Even on the Monday, making our way up to Stratford we nearly got caught on a weir! Thanks for a nice interesting vlog as usual David :)
You are very fortunate to be able sail a boat mostly through England. Come to Australia and we only have one river that has a bit of distance attached to it but the rest, well you would be fortunate to see water in them. If I lived in England I would join you on the water ways. It’s not a sit on the bum and steer the boat but a bit of fun/work whatever you may call it to navigate through the locks. Lucky you.
I love these vids. Reminds me of when I was a kid piloting our boat on the waterway off the lake. (trent-severn waterway off lake simcoe in Ontario) Weir enjoying the slow relaxed atmosphere you create. Moor please!
I used the curved Evesham lock. My grandparents are the keepers and used to live in the house on the left but it was condemned in a flood. Pan left some more and you’d have seen their boat.
Four more episodes to finish off Season Two were uploaded yesterday (though Prime take weeks to make them go live) but thanks for coming over and finding me here too :-)
David the Shakespearean house, I agree. Like the Video of yours is well great! Our Jasmine has been in stressed difficulty, Her Clutch thingy had gone south. Sounds recovery is on the making. Cheers
Glad you like it. Yes, I know about Jasmin's clutch, I just don't understand why you keep mentioning it here! Wouldn't your sympathies better be posted on her video? Then she'll know you're concerned.
Hi! I'm reluctant to make a suggestion because I'm enjoying your videos as is, the timing, the subject matter, the narration. all good. But. In addition, for your consideration or you may already have something similar in the works. Here in Canada we are starting to gear up, or gear down, for the cold weather season. It would be interesting to see an updated getting ready for winter on the canal video. Thanks for all the excellent work you're doing with these videos.
Hmmm. My total cold weather prep comprises buying a bag of coal for the stove. It would be different if I left the boat over winter but I live aboard so not much to say on that front!!

Ah, thanks Julie. We've a rare day of October sun here too, making the autumn leaves look lovely :-)
New to your channel. Just wanted to say that not only is your narration interesting and well spoken but your voice is very soothing. It's nice to hear a narration with interesting wording.
Beautiful country. Splendid nature. These channels represent centuries of work and much love. Amazing.

Another lovely tranquil journey excluded the buffeting in the locks. Gorgeous countryside and Evesham is gorgeous. Superb video David. Thank you
I loved all the historical notes you added in this one!
Another splendid video! Once again, I marvel at the age and history of England. Just fascinating!
Glad you enjoyed it

Hello! Lovely to meet you too and I'm so pleased to have heard your news. I'm looking forward to an update in a few weeks :-)
So glad you appreciate our wonderful Evesham lock! I can see it from my flat (the large ex-factory building behind the Mill House).
It's a fierce beastie!
Thanks David, a wonderful tea break vlog to cheer up a grey Monday!
Excellent!
So interesting to see all of the different engineering solutions at each lock! And all still working! A national treasure!
I always love your videos....the country is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing!!
Cheers!
Great viewing. Have watch over 40 of your VLOGS. I live in New Zealand
Lovely vlog, so pleasant cruising with you, you had me wondering with the title then that lock, no more wondering.
8:23 it always looks really cool to see a narrowboat gliding by, seemingly forever
Wonderful, thank you again. Many years ago on a business trip to London my client invited me instead to their Cheltenham office. I rented a car, had a great trip and stopped to photograph unbelievably green and peaceful Evesham along the way. Such memories...
Thank you for these videos. They are so relaxing, and your humor is spot on.
Of course as an American I'm easily won over by a British accent. :P
Beautiful video David , with added bonus of the history stories. You are so confident on the rivers now , no more knee knocking !!
To be fair, the river level was so low there was barely any current!!

Cheers John
Thanks for the brilliant reminder. I grew up on kingfisher marina when I was a kid. It didn't look as good 38 years ago. Thanks very much.
Nice 👍 Randomly, the trees reminded me of a sign I once saw nailed to a tree in a wood which read "Private sign. Do not read" 🙄
That's quite random.
CruisingTheCut thanks!
Wow. Nice to see the pull-ferry still in service after all these years. I remember seeing it in an episode of Rosie and Jim.

Hello David that was lovely just what my lazy sunday afternoon needed. Thank you very much.

A video with plenty of great views so thanks for that. All the best for more of your journey.

Amazing what the Internet can reveal!

Very Shakespearean looking house except for the glass railings on the balconies. Old and new, working together.

Terry Bolin I agree.
Indeed! I really like how David includes the drudge work and his mistakes. It very much allows me to live the narrowboat life vicariously.
It's very interesting to see history from a boater's point of view. Thanks!
I do love your vlogs i have been binge watching them and see them all now sadly and i cant wait for more great work
Thank you, glad you like them.
Another entertaining adventure, thanks David😃👍👏👏

Great vid with comprehensive narration well done sir.
Have had many a picnic when I was a kid in the park area to the left in Evesham. Nice to see from the river David, Thanks.
It looked like a lovely spot, as is the one in Stratford. Cheers
Very nice trip. Well nice for me as I didn't get bounced around the Locks. Sir, I just love it! Hello from California 🤙🏼
Such enjoyable watching ! Thank you. Do you ever consider carrying on vlogging after you have moored up? We would love the story to continue into your boat to watch you ‘sort out’ for the coming lunch time / evening etc. 😊
I don't do anything, just eat some food, watch a bit of telly and go to bed. Nothing worth vlogging.

They were a bit peculiar! Cheers
I believe the curved lock walls are made that way to hold back unstable gravels. It’s an arch principle.
But I may be wrong. ;).
Nah, they used to be straight but bowed out from all the boats bashing into them from the violence of the lock. ;)
Great Vlog David :-)
